And as the guest of honor, he'll get another Career Achievement award, the prix Louis-Lumière, the only prize awarded by the non-competitive festival. I hope he has a king-size mantelpiece!

Thanks, Sylvie. :)

Are you gonna go, Sylvie?

Btw, I just found the official website for the festival
http://www.lumiere2009.org/

However, it doesn't really say when Eastwood will be there... he might be present today, October 7th @ 6.30PM during the Leone/Siegel retrospective

Hi ! AB !

First time I read that info, OF COURSE I wanted to go there !!!
Only 2H far from my house by train ... then I realized that I couldn't see him as perfectly as I saw him on the February, 17th, 2007 .... only a few seats in front of me,  he walked just near me to sit down, "the body guard" let me climb down the staircase just to take pictures .... At this time he was in Lyon to present us his beautiful "Letters From Iwo Jima", and this memory is one of my best one ... :)
No one was allowed to talk to him, only the "officials", so no autographs, only pictures, a thing that I can understand .

From my youth I kept on saying, "I want to see Clint Eastwood, at least one time in my life !" that became true ! :)

So I won't go there ( I won't be as lucky as that day ), and it is said that the tickets for the Leone Sergio Retrospective are sold out .
I will watch him on FR3 Rhone Alpes Auvergne channel, no doubt ...

Unfortunately, I am completely broke right now (3 weeks in SF  :o ;D), but I would go if I was in Lyon, for sure. And if I had the money.

Nice poster, by the way  O0

I hope they'll put up videos of his appearance on the site afterwards, for those who weren't able to make it. Oh and I just thought what if Clint was a guest on the 8 o'clock news on TF1 or France2 or 3? I mean, that'd be pretty cool  8)

Eastwood makes Lyon's day

LYON (France) - LEGENDARY American actor and director Clint Eastwood will perform a ceremonial kick-off at the Lyon-Sochaux French first division football match at the Stade Gerland here on Saturday.

The 'Dirty Harry' and 'Unforgiven' star is in Lyon as the guest of honour at the city's film festival, which runs from October 13-18.

The 79-year-old screen icon is sponsoring the first edition of the festival and will receive an award for his contribution to cinema from French director Bertrand Tavernier on Saturday evening. -- AFP

Too early for a video, although they did show it on TV @ 8PM tonight. Nice kick  O0

Watching it right now  8) -it isn't "live", by the way (was to be expected, it's past midnight in France). The ceremony took place earlier tonight. Apparently he arrived there around 8PM.

Three French fans were interviewed and they mentioned a "forum" ("le forum de Clint Eastwood" aka 'THE Clint Eastwood forum"). It most likely is a French forum, and I was like "WHAT? OUR forum is THE forum!!"  ::) ;D

Oh God, of course when Clint's talking, a French journalist is translating at the same time. I hate that.

LOL Eastwood said that this festival was great because there was no winner or loser... *showing his "prize"* except him!  (He received some sort of plaque to honor his career)  ;D

OK so the "Eastwood part" just ended. Lasted no more than 20 minutes. I am a little disappointed that there was no Q&A session or something. He just basically stopped by to get his award. IF there was an interview of some sort, I hope it will be posted on the festival's website sometime next week  :-\

I must say that I'm a little bit disappointed by this interview, not because of Clint Eastwood of course, but by the banal questions asked ...
And this ceremony, full of academism, not fun at all, with almost the same persons as in the Institut Lumière in 2007 ...
Well, I had much prefered watch him on the Stade Gerland for the kickoff ! ;)

The 4000 people at the ceremony had been lucky enough to watch a few minutes of "Invictus", that's great !

:)  " Clint Eastwood honoured in Lyon "

      http://www.euronews.net/2009/10/18/clint-eastwood-honoured-in-lyon/

Quote
The Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award, at the 2009 Film Festival in Lyon. France’s second city is intimately linked with the movies: Lyon was the birthplace of the Lumiere brothers, Auguste and Louis, who invented cinema itself in 1895.

Clint Eastwood shot to fame in Sergio Leone’s so-called ‘Spaghetti Westerns’ and has gone on to win countless awards as an actor, director, producer and composer. But he saluted the men who started it all as he received his award:

“I see here we have Augusto and Louis? (Auguste!) August and Louis, we all owe them a great deal of thanks. And I owe them 50-some years of employment.”

From playing gritty characters like maverick cop ‘Dirty’ Harry Callaghan, and retired gunslinger William Munny in the multi-Oscar-winning Unforgiven, to directing thoughtful blockbusters like Million Dollar Baby and the twin war movies Letters from Iwo Jima and Flags of our Fathers, Clint Eastwood has dominated the silver screen for decades. He insists, though, that 2009’s Gran Torino will be the last time he appears in front of the camera.
