Lynn Redgrave, R.I.P.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/04/arts/04redgrave.html

Quote
Lynn Redgrave, who as an actress upheld the tradition of her theatrically royal family on stage and on screen and as a playwright wrote about her family with probing affection and equally probing anguish, died on Sunday at her home in Kent, Conn. She was 67.

Her brother Corin died just last month, and of course her niece, Vanessa Redgrave's daughter Natasha Richardson, was killed in a skiing accident about a year ago.

Sad news beaking this morning.  Lena Horne has died at the age of 92.   She broke down barriers when she sang with a white band.  I loved her voice and one of my favourites was Stormy Weather. As a jazz fan she was high on my lists of greats.

RIP Lena.

Here's a link to the New York Times obit (by Aljean Harmetz) of Lena Horne. It's a good read.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/10/arts/music/10horne.html

Nice Bogart story ... this happened back in 1941:

Quote
Since blacks were not allowed to live in Hollywood, “Felix Young, a white man, signed for the house as if he was going to rent it,” Ms. Horne said. “When the neighbors found out, Humphrey Bogart, who lived right across the street from me, raised hell with them for passing around a petition to get rid of me.” Bogart, she said, “sent word over to the house that if anybody bothered me, please let him know.”

Frank Frazetta, the legendary fantasy artist, has died at the age of 82. Here's a link to the New York Times obituary:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/11/arts/artsspecial/11frazetta.html

Quote
Frank Frazetta, an illustrator of comic books, movie posters and paperback book covers whose visions of musclebound men fighting with swords and axes to defend scantily dressed women helped define fantasy heroes like Conan, Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, died on Monday in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 82.

Frazetta has only one connection with Eastwood, as far as I know, but it's such a powerful one that I was tempted to post this in the Eastwood News forum.

Aside from that ... our own Conan owes him a debt of gratitude ...

The above picture is from a blog post on the Comics Beat website that's worth reading ... the first comment on the post is by Frazetta's granddaughter.

RIP Frank Frazetta.

The Gauntlet poster he drew is IMO one of the best posters for this movie.
