" This Is Not What We Thought DiCaprio's 'J. Edgar' Would Look Like " By Daniel Hubschman , Hollywood.com Staff | Wednesday, February 09, 2011 http://www.hollywood.com/news/This_Is_Not_What_We_Thought_DiCaprios_J_Edgar_Would_Look_Like/7757648J. Edgar Hoover was many things, but paperboy was not one of them. Why, then, is director Clint Eastwood making him look like an extra from Disney's Newsies? Beats me, but since this is the actual first look of superstar Leonardo DiCaprio on the set of the Oscar winning filmmaker's new movie, you know you need to have a look.
DiCaprio plays the enigmatic founder of the FBI in the biopic that Brian Grazer is producing. The rest of the all-star cast, which includes Judi Dench, Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas and more, is nowhere to be found, but if this doofy looking image is the first to hit the web, I'd expect a handful of better ones to follow.

" Leonardo DiCaprio to play FBI founder " By ANI | ANI – Sun, Feb 13 3:59 PM IST http://in.news.yahoo.com/leonardo-dicaprio-play-fbi-founder-20110213-022924-427.html London, Feb 13 (ANI): Clint Eastwood is making a movie about the life of America's legendary crime fighter, J Edgar Hoover.
The actor-turned-director is expected to focus on some of the sleazy secrets of the controversial founder of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, reports the Daily Express.
The Oscar-tipped blockbuster, J. Edgar, is the most eagerly awaited biopic for years, according to critics. Eastwood recently hinted that he was well aware of Hoover's double life - and believes he is the perfect filmmaker to bring one of America's greatest figures to life on the screen.
"He (Hoover) was a very complex person. The homosexual aspect is just one of many. I would say that's the least of his problems. But he was also very clever about keeping himself in a certain position in life, so it is an interesting study," he said.He is a fascinating character, and I think I am the right person to do it, not because I knew him or anything, but I did grow up with him. He was an iconic figure," he added.
Filmgoers will have to wait until 20112 to see how 80-year-old director portrays Hoover. The film is currently being shot in the historic quarter of Los Angeles. (ANI) 20112 ! ? I am very afraid that I cannot watch this movie!!!!! ........

Seattle PI ( link) Oddsmakers: Eastwood's J. Edgar Oscar Chances ... in late February of 2013. By ELISABETH RAPPE FILM.COM Wednesday, February 16, 2011 Last updated 3:35 p.m. PT
... It's hard to believe the director of so much B-movie madness would be one of the millennium's prestigious filmmakers, but he is. He's a bit of a dark horse though. He won in 1992 with Unforgiven, but returned to his crowd-pleasing ways with stuff like Space Cowboys and Absolute Power. Then in 2003, he carved a permanent spot on the awards circuit with Mystic River. He took home gold in 2004 with Million Dollar Baby, and seemed destined to repeat the win by offering up not one, but two war movies in 2006: Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, the latter earning him nods for Best Picture and Best Director. His output since has seemed tailor made for the Academy -- Changeling, Gran Torino, Invictus, Hereafter -- and while they're often championed by the old guard of critics and Warner Brothers, they have failed to garner any major nominations. Eastwood has shrugged it off, but it's hard not to see a little longing with his choices of subject matter. As he goes into production on J.Edgar, it's hard not to suspect there's already "For Your Consideration" ads being printed in the mind's eye.
To get three nominations out of seven films is pretty darn good. But to strike out four times in a row suggests odds are a little long for J. Edgar. A biopic is usually a surefire nominee, but Eastwood has had trouble selling his historical and biographical films, as evidenced by Changeling and Invictus. Both were the kind of sturdy stories the Academy adores, but neither really sparked under his direction.
But J. Edgar has a little more edge and flavor to it. ...
