Most of the crew I spoke to were expecting an October release. That'll be great if it pans out. I think IMDB currently says December 14 (for US release)

" Warner Bros. attempts early Oscar domination and sets dates for two buzz-worthy films "

  Holly Coletta

Quote
Fresh off of the release of the trailer for Steven Spielberg's Oscar-ready War Horse, Warner Bros. has award-season chatter filling the air once again with its announcement of (vague) release dates for two anticipated films.

The production company has secured an October date for Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar and a December release was given to Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Deadline reports.

The webiste notes that this move puts both films "right in the middle" of Oscar season.

The former is a biopic about "controversial and enigmatic" FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover and boasts an Oscar-friendly cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts and The Social Network's Armie Hammer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, on the other hand, is based off of a novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, and tells the story of a family who is directly impacted by the tragic events of 9/11. Oscar-winners Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock lead the cast.

Neither Eastwood nor Daldry are strangers to taking home shiny gold men. Eastwood has won a Best Director award two out of four times he's been nominated, and all three of Daldry's past films have earned him Best Director nominations.

I wonder what the run time of this film will be? With it covering several decades I'm thinking this could be a 3 hour film. I know Clint's recent films are usually around the 130 minute length but I'm thinking this could be like JFK.

Bird (his only other true biopic, though some others are based on true stories) runs around two hours forty minutes ... but I have a feeling Clint was more engaged in the subject matter of that one.

I wonder who will do the score? Somehow, this seems to call for more than the wistful-minimalist approach that's become his standard for recent films.

My guess is 130-140 at the most.

Based on Changeling and Letters from Iwo Jima, I would guess 141 minutes.

I just don't like the look of his eyes. He looks possessed or something.  :-\

I think I might change my mind about the poster after reading this Hoover book. I'm half way through it and he's possessed alright, the devil in disguise. :o

Ha ha!  Maybe the title should be changed to Devil In Disguise!

Ahem, okay....maybe not.

What's missing from this poster...and movie for that matter...is Clint!  I know I have to accept the sad fact that Gran Torino may just be his last starring role but TO ME, a Clint Eastwood picture.... STARS CLINT EASTWOOD!

'NUFF SAID!

Well, as the story says, it's a "concept." They may use a different picture altogether.

What strikes me, comparing the original with the "concept," is that the concept has the "dark" side of Leo's face much darker, with much less detail visible, in accordance with Clint's fondness for chiaroscuro lighting.

Absolutely not!   O0

You know, the more I think of it, the more I like Devil In Disguise as a movie title as opposed to J. Edgar, which is boring.  Maybe... Devil In Drag?

Well, it'll be interesting to see what the official movie poster will look like.  Is it too late for the title to be changed?  Has it been released elsewhere?  If it's not due out here until October, possibly December, anything could happen.

You know.....Clint could still do another western... I'm just sayin'.....

Obviously wishful thinking, but Clint could set A Star is Born in the Old West.

More fan photos from the set of ‘J. Edgar’ in D.C. last spring
by Christine on July 26, 2011

One of our readers, Jenn C., checked out the Washington D.C. set of J.Edgar back in March in hopes of seeing the film’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Though she wasn’t lucky enough to meet Leo, she did get a glimpse of him, writer Dustin Lance Black, and met the film’s director, Clint Eastwood, along with Leo’s co-stars Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts. ...

J. Edgar "didn't make the initial cut" for the Toronto Film Festival, but may be added later.

Quote
Another filmmaker who is no stranger to Toronto is Clint Eastwood.  The cinematic legend has screened everything from "Mystic River" to "Hereafter" at the festival.  His new biopic "J. Edgar" didn't make the initial cut for Toronto, but could find itself added in the coming weeks or land a major gala at the New York Film Festival.  NYFF is also conveniently much closer to its current Oct. 21 release date.
