I must admit I don't watch a lot of doco's but I recorded one last night on John Dillinger and watched it today while having lunch and just like the recent book I read on the FBI's hunt for Dillinger and his gang it was very interesting.

The documentary was titled Public Enemy Number 1 and was made in 2002 and was narrated by Keith Carradine. I highly recommend it.

I have just watched "The Code". It was shown over three weeks so I recorded to watch all at once. It was a very interesting documentary about how maths and numbers shape our world and the universe. I have started to look at it for second time. I love maths and mathematical shapes and physics therefore it was one amazing program for me.  Through the program there were a number of clues towards breaking the code. You could send for the book with the questions in it or go on line to take the tests.  The link below is about the program, the winners and the clues needed. It was a brilliant few hours and I am waiting for the booklet to arrive. Better than on the PC because I can take it away with me. From watching the link I know who won and what the final three answers were but there are more questions to get me to that point. I was pleased to see the code breaker prize was won by a computer programer who was up against a woman with a PhD in physics and a man who studied maths and artificial intelligence.

Food, Inc.

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment.

Everybody in the U.S., and even around the world, should see this.  It should make you very angry.   But hopefully it will make you more conscious of what you buy in the supermarket and what you eat.  The film presents the whole organic trend as the part of the solution, but I've heard that the label of "organic" can be somewhat misleading.  I suppose it's a step in the right direction.  The best option is to grow your own whenever possible and to buy food from your local farmers' markets.  The film has certainly strengthened my resolve to be more aware and responsible about what I buy and what I eat.

Your Shout: The History of Australian Beer

From the early days when Captain Cook first arrived to the billion dollar takeovers of the 21 century, the history of beer and brewerys in this country was interesting. I loved how back in the 19th century they said if you can't see the brewery from where you live, don't drink the beer. Since the further it had to travel the worse it tasted.

At one stage in a suburb of Melbourne there were 22 pubs in the main street of town! Those days are long gone but just about every town has a local and how many are called "The Railway Hotel"? Too many. :D

Women He's Undressed

Last week, if you mentioned the name Orry Kelly to me I would of said who?

He was actually born in Australia and moved to the US in the 1920's, hoping to make it big as an actor but instead became one of the top costume designers for Warner Bros. in the 1930's with over 300 movies to his credit. This documentary directed by Gillian Armstrong was very well done, although the present day actors in scenes playing Orry and his mother, I could have done without.

A look at his page at imdb and I've seen so many of those Warner Bros. movies and never realised who he was! A three time academy Award winner as well.

You should meet my nephew if you think their a handful, he doesn't like using a fork so he eats with his little fingers, can't talk yet but kinda says mmmmmm for milk or mom (which he calls me often) and grabs on to furniture to walk even opens the cabinets and his favourite word besides milk is uh oh, he threw his stuffed animal at me and said it

I agree, such an important documentary. It makes me wish I had the resolve to be vegan because what they show doing to livestock is sickening. I hate supporting the food industry, but until we have changes in our government, lobby groups, etc., there's not much we can do. Our food industry has been destroyed by mega - huge corporations.

My last documentary was Citizen Four, which I highly recommend to anyone interested in Edward Snowden and an expose more in detail of what he exposed, and why he was willing to give up his freedom in order to bring it to light.

I watched Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films a few days ago on Netflix. I like various Cannon movies, and this is a closer look at the company's success and how it ultimately failed. There's a lot of movies shown/talked about on it that I haven't seen though. All in all pretty interesting.

This was a treat. All those voices you hear on hit records but never knew who they are. Interesting how some of these back up singers tried to make it on their own but could never be a lead singer or weren't given the opportunity to shine up front.

Did they show the backup singer from "Gimme Shelter"?  That woman's voice is crazy good.

It's funny you mention that because someone says in the doco about all the lines we sing along to in the big hits are the backup singers lines.

She elevates "Gimme Shelter" to being my favorite Stones song, hands-down.
