This is the Movie Night discussion thread for Mystic River. We'll meet here up to an hour before we start rolling the film on Sunday, October 30, 2011. (or in Australia, Monday, October 31.)
If possible, please check in at least ten minutes before the start time, so we'll know everyone is here who wanted to be. For anyone who'd like to join us ... have your Mystic River DVD (or video) ready to play. We'll start the film at 20:00 UTC, Board Time.
Check here to see what time we'll be starting in your area:

In CST (U.S. Central Time Zone) states - 3:00 PM
In EST (U.S. East Coast) states - 4:00 PM
In Sao Paulo, Brasil - 6:00 PM
In Great Britain, Portugal - 8:00 PM
In France, Italy - 9:00 PM
      In Sweden - 9:00PM
      In Finland -  10:00PM
In Sydney and Melbourne, Australia - 7:00 AM, Monday morning.

If you need more time conversions, check here:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

We'll be starting at the Warner Bros Logo. This is at  0:00:04 on the R-4 DVD.   Set up your DVD here, and pause. We'll all be hitting "Start" at exactly the top of the hour.

We'll be taking three breaks during the movie. (Usually around 10 minutes)

The first break is at the end of Chapter 9 on the R-4 DVD. This is at 0:31:20. It is at the end of the scene where Katie's body is discovered and Sean and Whitey are at the crime scene. Sean says to himself, "What the f@#k am I going to tell him?" "Hey Jimmy!" "God said you owed him another marker and he came to collect."

The second break is at the end of Chapter 17 on the R-4 DVD. This is at 01:02:29 . Sean and Whitey are getting into their car and discussing Dave Boyle being in the bar. The last place Katie was at. Whitey says, "The guy is wrong, you saw his hand." Sean replies, "Yeah, I saw his hand. You seriously want to take a look at Dave Boyle?" Whitey says, "Just a little one."

The final break is at the end of Chapter 26 on the R-4 DVD. This is at 1:35:59. It is at the end of the scene where Celeste tells Jimmy that she thinks Dave killed Katie.

All screencaps taken from the Mystic River DVD.

I hope to see as many members here as possible.

(I'm starting this thread early so I could add the event to the calendar--all events must have a thread to link to.)

Just a couple of reminders:

1) By default, this board gives you a warning message when someone else has posted while you're writing a post. That can get very frustrating in the heat of things in these threads ... but now the feature can be turned off, temporarily (or permanently if you prefer).

To turn it off, click the link on the brown bar near the top of the page to your profile:

You'll go to your profile page. On the left-hand side, there's a list of stuff you can do here including "Modify profile." Under that heading, click the link to "Look and Layout Preferences." Now you'll see some choices with little white checkboxes next to them. One of them is "Don't warn on new replies made while posting." Click in that box so there's a check mark there. Then, in the lower right hand corner, click "Change profile" and you're all set.

I find it also helps to use the keyboard shortcut when posting: alt+s. (Or in the latest version of Firefox, alt+shift+s.)

2) You can also use the "Quick Reply" feature: At the bottom of each thread is a brown bar with "Quick Reply" on the left hand corner. If you don't have it enabled, that's all you'll see and there will be a plus sign to the left of "Quick Reply." Click the plus sign, and a reply box will open beneath the brown bar and will stay there until you click the sign (now a minus) next to "Quick Reply" again. You can type your post right in this box and don't have to wait for a "Reply" page to open. It's a little harder to use smilies, though, unless you remember all the shortcuts!

I am sorry but I wont be joining you tonight.  My copy of Mystic River wont play for some reason. It wont play on the DVD connected to the TV or on the PC or the little DVD player.  :'( :'(

It isn't quite the same just reading the posts.  Sorry I am so late telling you but we have been trying to get it to work.  Other DVDs are working so I just don't know what has happened.

Enjoy your evening.

I was hoping to join you tonight as I have never watched Mystic River before, but I won't be available.  I hope the rest of you have a nice time.

Sorry to hear that Lin and E77. :(

Looks like it will just be three of us only. No matter how many are in attendance the film will start rolling at 20:00 UTC. :)

I've never watched this with the audio commentary from Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon. Has anyone?

Less than 5 minutes to showtime. :)

Looks like it's going to be a very empty cinema today. :(

I like Jimmy's jacket. Had one when I was his age too. Nobody messes with a kid in a leather jacket. :D

Don't you hate it when the ball goes down the drain. How many times did that happen playing cricket out in the street. And who do you think had to always climb down there and get it?
