I don't know if this has been talked about yet.
I have seen the trailer, and this looks like it might be one of the best one of of the six. Of course it is going to have the most plot out of the six, also it has "the duel". I can't wait to see that. ;D
What is ya'll opinions? Predictions?
-
I aint a big Star Wars fan but the original first movie was the best in my opinion.
Harrison ford as Han Solo seemed to be the only character to add the human element to the film and was the least wooden.

It looks great, but I somehoe think that it wont be. After seeing how Lucas butchered the other prequels, I don't see this one being an orginal beater.
-
Lucas better not screw this up. I have been waiting for this particular episode for as long as I can remember. If he does....I shall rain death from above.
-
I'm going into it with absolutley zero expectations... so as long as there's flickering images it can't possibly suck.

Oh my God. Best of the six you say....
My ability to believe that has been shattered by everything he has made since about 1983 :(.
If you want to know why Lucas couldn't make a good home movie, I can post a link which will explain a lot.

Yes, what a let down Liam Neeson was. Pity about Ford's career lately too.

Ewan Mcgregor aint so hot either, with his Faux Paux sir Alec Guiness accent and demeanor.
Still apparently Sir Alec hated the Obi One role anyway.
I do think Ewan is talented, trainspotting was great but is he a Sci Fi Action hero type guy. Personally i would say no.
I also have to agree with Wkc, what a shame Mr Ford is'nt performing as he should nowadays, this was after all the man who was "Indianna Jones"
Sigh it all seems so long ago.
-
Samuel L Jackson is worse. He's good in Pulp Fiction and those sorts of roles, but he really can't act for toffee in the Star Wars films. I hear he gets bumped off in the latest one though, so that's at least one good thing about Revenge Of The Sith ;D
I'm a fan of the original trilogy and the first two films in particular (I know they're called Episodes IV and V but they're the first two to me) and don't think the latest offerings measure up at all, but I'm feeling reasonably positive about this one as the trailer looks pretty cool. Anyway, even if Lucas does screw it up, there won't be any more. Oh, except the tv series he's been talking about. Excuse me while I weep into a bucket at the thought :'( :-X
-
Maybe I should watch Episode II.
I didn't mind Episode I. I thought it was a decent movie. That's been a few years back, I think I was still in high school when I saw it.
Within in the last few months, I rewatched the original movies from the DVD releases. All three are really great. It'd been so long since I'd seen them, it was almost like watching them for the first time (except for the fact I still remembered certain scenes). Maybe I'll revisit Episode I and check out Episode II soon so I'll finally be up to date with the series.
-
Ah yes as a whiff of nostalgia comes across me....the original two star wars movies, that are horribly called episodes IV and V (as alleycat pointed out) were the best by far. I know we can all be tainted by childhood memories as things never seem the same but even after watching them recently my opinion remains the same.
They just dont make them like they used to, the original "Star Wars" (1977) had no CGI in at all, a wookie was a man dressed as a wookie and all the characters in that Mos Eisley bar (i think) were either puppets or actors.
Its probably me being old fashioned and some CGI is good but i always feel that it takes something out of a film.
If Lucas managed toi astound all us kids in 1977 without CGI then surely he could do it again...???

He had help from a lot of people in '77 and '80 who aren't with him anymore.

I watched Episodes I and II this week. They're pretty decent. I wouldn't put them on the same level with the originals, but I can see why Lucas wanted to make these movies. It's interesting to see how Darth Vader became Darth Vader.
And I didn't have a problem with any of the actors' performances in it. Not even Liam Neeson or Samuel L. Jackson. ;) They all seemed to do whatever was called for. I thought Christopher Lee was very good in Attack of the Clones. And I liked Natalie Portman (almost a sentence within itself ;) ;D) in both movies. The highlight for Episode II for me was seeing the interaction between Portman and Christensen.
-
i have to admit i am ooking forward to seeing ep III after the trailer. it loooks great better than eps I and II, reminded me of the original 3 plus it had that dark feel to it and looked more like the strawars universe we are used to in the originals.

Here is the trailer. Enjoy!
I cried tears of joy when I first saw it.
-
I´m really looking forwards to it, but i aint holding my breath...
The trailer looks cool, but so did the other two...
(at least this one uses tghe imperial march theme ;) )
-
A new two 2 an a half minute trailer to be released this Friday in Australia of Episode 3.It supposedly shows Vader standing next to Palpatine on a Star Destroyer at the end of the trailer.
-
FOX is going to be showing the trailer this coming Thursday during "The O.C." ::) ... let's show the trailer during the worst show on TV... super!

Which means that every star wars fan is going to tune in = higher tv rating...

My older cousin saw the trailer yesterday and tears came out of his eyes LOL! He's been a Stars Wars fan ever since episode 3 which he saw in theaters the very first day, and all the other ones as well. Seeing him like that makes me think how much movies can affect people. Kind of like a little "getaway" from reality you know? I don't know, just an observation. ::)
-
You are right Gimpy. I guess everyone has to have a hobby, some enjoy it on a casual basis, other people are too dedicated. ;)

????????
dude empire was the best movie, the first was a fairy tale and the third was a muppet show
-
...the third was a muppet show
Haha ;D "Empire" is my favorite of all the Star Wars flicks and one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time.
The biggest problem I have with the newer Star Wars movies is the Ewok-like kiddie factor was upped with dumbasses like Jar Jar and the unfunny robot slapstick. Still, and I know that I'm in the minority here, I thought they were ok. I actually enjoyed the ending of the last one, despite it being hugely cheesy...Again, minority I know...
-
Don't worry, Conan, I agree with you (I bet that makes your day, doesn't it? ;)), I've enjoyed the new Star Wars movies.
I'm not sure which I'd pick out of the originals as my favorite. All three are really good.
-
absolutely there were ok, you're dead right there, the problem was we were promised and we expected much more, but you're right about them neing ok especially the second, i did like the scene where anakin went psycho after his ma died, but they were forgettable
-
Besides the jar jar factor i think that one of the main reasons the two new movies fell so short with a lot of old fans is because they´ve simply grown up, possibly jaded with big special effects movies. You´re simply not awed the same way anymore by big battlecruisers. So instead one looks for storyline, and to my meaning filling three movies out centralizing about the fall of anakin is simply too much time. A more complex plot could have saved episode 1 and 2 (or a scoundrel ;) ) I hope lucas got the best saved for last, it might even help on the trilogy as a whole, though i sadly doubt it.

Only another 2 weeks before it's released.
I'm almost as excited as if I was waiting for a new Clint Eastwood film.I've placed myself on a ban on looking at anything to do with the film that comes up in the paper or on the news.I want to go into the theater without any expectations.
-
i'm more excited about it than any other film, star wars was the movie event of my childhood, it's something i grew up with i'm mmad about it. it's funny i'm almost hysterically excited about this, i wouldn't be like that about an eastwood movie, i'd be more keenly interested i guess it's cause his movies work on such higher levels than popcorn special effects extravaganzas

Amen little_bill O0
I too must admit that my relaxed approach/pretence and view on the movie is slowly dissolving in hope of one final grand adventure. I truly hope/dream/plead that this movie will be the "The empire strikes back" movie for the first trilogy. ;)
-
It's been rated PG-13 :(.

hmm... Guess that means that we dont get to see Jar Jar Binks get torn apart by an army of enraged wookies :(

there's always the extended edition dvd :D
i'm going to the press screenings for the station i work on monday week, i can't wait for the 16th, why do i have to wait so long
-
I've placed myself on a ban on looking at anything to do with the film that comes up in the paper
This is getting difficult.Everyday there's something about it in the paper.I quickly turn the page resisting the urge to read the article. After today I may stop looking and posting in this thread until I see the film on Thursday week. ;D
-
the bastards released the video game two weeks before the movie, i've made the game shop promise not to sell it to me until after the 19th
-
I saw the previews on TV for the first time yesterday. Looks pretty good. I kinda like the fact it's rated PG-13. Could mean it's going to be darker and more violent.
-
If i remember correctly, Hellboy was PG-13 and there was nothing wrong with tha violence in that >:D
As long as it´s "sci-fi violence" sometimes a movie gets easier through the ratings, and the dark mood and setting you see in the trailer do look promising >:D
-
it's bloody brilliant. i'm not saying anything but the movie is similar to ep v in tone and mood, great and much better than eps I&II.
p.s the cg on the planets are incredible.
-
You've already seen it, little_bill?
-
was at the press previews this morning, it's great i won't say anything so as not to ruin it, but i will say that everyone pulls their weight, a very good performance from hayden christinsen especially
-
Go to www.rottentomatoes.com where it has a tomatometer for Revenge of the Sith, so far it has a fresh rating.
-
"Technically magnificent but dramatically inert, it's a lumberingly predictable finale to the space saga that peaked in 1980 and has been going downhill ever since." (http://www.oneguysopinion.com/review.asp?ID=1581)
predictable, no!, how predictable,
oh yoiu mean you know whats ghoing to happen, well thats not difficult sunshine we've known for 25 years. it's ridiculously illinformed reviewers like this guy who should get a new job and leave judging movies to the punters.
it's the best one lucas has directed, yes even better than star wars, which was just a fairy story after all, two heores, old mentor, magic, bad guys, evil lord, rescue princess etc etc.
in the opinion of this original star wars fan it's number 2 behind empire ( could never be moved off top spot purely for the "I am your father" twist
-
I'm so excited for this one. It looks like so much fun. And, I love that I'm going to the 12:01 show tomorrow night, oh the joy. ;D
-
Some say it's the best of the 6 ...
I don't know about that, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like it ;)
-
:) Hi !
I've just seen it , it was 00:01 in France (12:01 pm) , today the 18th and all the fans of my city were together at the theatre, in a new huge movie- complex, lost in the middle of the fields !
There were some Darth Vader, Leîa princess in the audience, that was really fun and the mood was really good.
Then the famous music ... then the movie !
And it was GREAT, even if (to me) the first half-hour seems a little bit boring.
I was with my 14 years old daughters (twins) and we all found it was the best of the last trilogy, the plot, the technical effects, the actors, eveything was great.
I don't know if it's the best of the 6 because my favorite is "The Empire strikes back" but it is the most dark and sad of the 6.
But it closes in a fantastic way this incredible saga. O0
-
it'll never ne neter than empire as empire had one of the greatest plot twists in sci-fi fantasy movies ever. but in my book it's the second best of the three
-

Definitely agree, but in fact, I think The Empire Strikes back had the greatest plotwist EVER and not only in its genre.
-
Definitely agree, but in fact, I think The Empire Strikes back had the greatest plotwist EVER and not only in its genre.
Yeah, unfortunately, everyone seems to know that plot twist, even if they haven't seen the movie.
More than likely, back when I first saw the movies, I didn't know the twist. But I was very little when I watched them.
Anybody going to any midnight showings? Other than Chessie, that is, who has already mentioned it. I'm not because I tend to do better with movies when I'm not usually sleeping during that time. ;) But two of my friends are going tonight.
-
couple of my friends are going tonight but i've already seen it so i'll wait for a more civilised hour to go back, and i am going back
-
Just got back from seeing it and I'm happy with my ban on not seeing anything in the paper or on telly about it for the last couple of weeks as I went in without any high hopes. My verdict:
The best of the first 3 episodes but still episodes 4 and 5 are the best of the entire 6 films.Very enjoyable 2 and a bit hours and worth my $10.00.I liked how everything is wrapped up at the conclusion so it continues in episode 4.I've watched the first two films the last couple of days and after seeing episode 3 today I'll continue with 4,5 and 6 tonight,Friday and Saturday.
-
I hope that none of you camp outside the theaters to watch it!
-
i just saw it again, i kind of agree with tgy except i think it's better than star wars (ep IV) it's got a very dark vein of humour running through it.
-
I hope that none of you camp outside the theaters to watch it!
No ! but when we arrived at about 10:30pm, there were thousands of persons in front of the theatre !
Fortunately we had bought our tickets two days before !
It was really fun to see it during the night, even if it had been a little bit hard to go to sleep only at 3:30am !
I have always seen the "Star Wars" at premiere, mood is so electrical and joyfull ! :). And a few years ago, I went to a "Star Wars night", 3 movies from 9PM to 5AMthe day after, that was a very happy night !
-
For those who have seen it please try and keep this thread spoiler free or at least warn when you are spoiling something. Thanks! I've been pretty busy as of late and I don't know when I'll be able to see it. I'm hoping this weekend but who knows. :(
-
I'm still gonna see Episode III on the 23rd.
The 23rd of Never.

I know and I thank you all for it so far. 8)
-
I saw it last night at 12:01. It was amazing. So good, great script, good acting, great special effects, music was awesome. I loved it. It was so good! I'll probably see at least 4 more times haha. :D
-
I'm afraid I was dissapointed .The action scenes were too big and uninvolving .
The whole film had a cold feeling to it which was only saved during the last 20 mins which were worth the ticket price alone .Up until then it left me cold .
-
I thought the action sequences were great, the plot was good and mostly well paced, chemistry between the characters was finally there, and the acting was solid outside of Hayden C. And as a huge plus, the lame attempts at humor (like previous two) were gone and there was no "pleasing the kiddies" crapola.
What Lucas still has problems with is terrible dialogue (especially between Hayden C. and Portman) and Hayden's better than the last, but still not very good, acting. Take away those two glaring flaws and I would have loved it. Also, sometimes there is an odd sense of timing for scene transitions (abrupt maybe), but I've gotten used to that and don't consider it a huge knock.
Good flick overall.
-
I saw ROTS, and liked it. The action sequences and fights are good and there weren't cheesy humor attempts or blatant pandering to young kids. I thought the turn to the dark side was done well. The limited Anakin/Padme dialogue was tolerable if done poorly, but all in all this was as good as you could expect it to be.
-
"revenge" is the best one lucas have directed (yes, i find it an inch better tha episode 4), and even though i´m not ready to forgive lucas for episode 1 yet, it certainly has put a smile on my face :). I would have liked more wookies, but that´s just about all the bad i can say about it. Sure, the dialouge is hokey sometimes but then again, it has always been that way in star wars. Also once again lucas shows that he is actually better at hinting at things than showing them up in your face. In the original "empire" it was the ice monster that you didnt actually see,
spoiler begins
In"revenge" it is the slaying of the younglings (even though that might have upped the PG rating considerably)
The way the scene was shot (zooming in on anakins hand with the lightsaber being turned on) reminds me of a certain nameless gunslinger... ;)
spoiler ends
All in all i´m happy with the movie, and even though it got some plotholes in connection with the "next" three movies i recommend it.
-
Man, everyone during school yesterday totally ditched class to see this film. I will definitely go see it next week after the response I saw.

Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace is on UK TV tonight at 5.20PM ITV. I will be watching it. I have managed to borrow Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones. After I have seen that I plan to go and see Episode III on the big screen. I am sure there are a lot more Star Wars DVD's out there that I should be watching. I guess I have started my initiation a bit late but....... 8)

Have you seen the original movies, Lin?
I have the feeling Lin hasnt seen them, but just think about THAT! Lins still got the best parts left, and we can now actually hear how the entire trilogy hangs together from the beginning from one who hasnt seen the star wars saga in its entire installment, and now sees it in complete chronological order!!! I am looking forwards toi hear what you (Lin) think of it all. O0

George Lucas is a very very very very very very very rich man.
Yep. and he would be richer if the pirate dvd´s couldnt already be bought on the streets of hong kong, beijing and in malaysia ;)

OK Well I started to watch no 2 and the DVD jumped all over the place so I have to get it for myself. I loved the first one and found I could follow all the People/robots/aliens etc. in it. Of course I had heard of a number of them and now they are 'real' to me. I want to watch the first one again and then I will take it from there. I had not seen anything before so for me there will only be the three movies. I think I will get confused if I start looking at all the other parts you all talk about. I think I need it running in order. Thanks everyone who put me on to something that I thought I would hate. Quite the opposite. O0

Hi ! Lin !
You're exactly like my husband who had never seen a "Star Wars" previously !
He's discovering them in order too, and yesterday evening, he said to me "that's not so bad !" :D
This story is magical, each time I see one fo the 5, I feel better ! Enjoy them as much as I do ! ;)
-
Loved the movie so much but hated this part:
Anakin: "You are so beautiful."
Padme: "That is because I am SO in love."
Anakin: "No, it's because I'M so in love."
Wow, was that really necessary?
-
Aw come on Gimpy ;) did you really expect to see a star wars movie without some hokey dialouge :D
-

Yeah what was up that dialogue, it really did nothing.
And, did anyone find the "NOOOOOO!!!" as tacky as I did?
-
Yeah what was up that dialogue, it really did nothing.
And, did anyone find the "NOOOOOO!!!" as tacky as I did?
The NNNOOOO!!! was terrible indeed.
**SPOILERS**
My dislikes about the film:
- The opening battles felt dull and the droids on Obi-Wans ship were... ugh... bad.
- Count Dooku was a waste of time. He showed up and probably could have done something worth while but he doesn't. They had to get rid of him fast because he wasn't killed in Episode II.
- Padme.... she served no purpose in the movie other then to give birth to Luke an Leia at the end.
- Gen. Grevious was pointless and not even explained. Who was he? What was he? I know he was a droid but he seemed to have a human heart and human eyes and what not... so what was he?
- The Anakin vs. Obi-wan duel lasted too long.
- Anakin's turn to the darkside was pretty quick and lame. "Hey boy, I can make you make people live longer." "Really?" "Yep." "Wait a minute... do I have to join the dark side?" "Yep." "Oh fine." "Awsome! Your training shall begin, now kneel down and I will magically telepathically transfer the dark side knowledge to you even though that's not what I'm doing but in order for you to have the power we'll just for-go the 'training' I mentioned and just say you have the power so you can use it to fight Obi-wan and make Padme cry at the end of this movie." "Ah... ok?"
- The battle on Wookiemania was pointless. Seriously, what purpose did it serve? It showed Chewbacca. Wow. Was there a reason to show Chewy? No. The only purpose it served was so that Yoda would be away from the Jedi Council building so Anakin wouldn't go all badass on him.
- The dialogue was terrible at some points.
- The acting was still pretty bad from most the major players.
- Shouldn't the Jedi's (Yoda, Obi-Wan, Jimmy Smits) felt the "force" in Luke and Leia? And known there were twins? They do have those Micro-DeLoreans thingys in them you know.
- "Yo-yo! Obi-wan, you know who you can talk to know? Qui-Gon man." "Master Qui-Gon? Really?! AWSOME!" "Yeah, but now that we've got the audiences hopes up to see Qui-Gon we won't show him even though when we mention that you can talk to him every expects us to actually show that. But we won't. 'Cause... well, you know... yah."
- "I'm Jimmy Smits! I finally get lines! I will take Leia. My wife and I always wanted to adopt a girl since my guys can't the job done." "Cool. Luke to his planet Obi-Wan you will take." "What?" "Luke to his planet Obi-Wan you will take." "Ah.... Oh! I know what you're saying Master Yoda. You want me to take Luke to the planet where we found Anakin so he can live in poverty for the rest of his life while Leia lives it up in luxury?" "Yes." "AWSOME!"
But even through all that, I liked the film. I liked it A LOT better then the first two but I think the reason I liked was because I had no anticipation for it at all (I even forgot when it opened only to remember the day after). And I was just really disapointed by the first two so I figured that this one couldn't suck anymore.
-
Well that's an interesting way of putting your dislikes Brendan. But, I personally didn't find it that bad. The only thing that bothered me was the NOOOOO. And that one scene brought up earlier "I'm so in love you," oh please. :D Oh yeah and what was up with the Qui-Gon thing? ???
-
Oh yeah and what was up with the Qui-Gon thing? ???
It setup the "back from the dead as a ghost" scenes in "Empire" and "Jedi"...Obi-Wan apparently learns from Qui-Gon how to do this.

Bing, exactly.
i am so sick of explaining that to people, did the world take a dumb pill when i was at the toilet!!!!!
Padme.... she served no purpose in the movie other then to give birth to Luke an Leia at the end.
well it's a pretty big purpose, plus she was the motivation for anakin to turn.
The Anakin vs. Obi-wan duel lasted too long.
nah we've been waiting for this fight since the prequels began. i thought it was perfect
- Shouldn't the Jedi's (Yoda, Obi-Wan, Jimmy Smits) felt the "force" in Luke and Leia? And known there were twins? They do have those Micro-DeLoreans thingys in them you know.
hang on a minute since when did senator bail organa become a jedi? there's no mention of that anywhere.
-

Ohhh I totally get it now!!! Ha! :D
-
You raise some valid questions Brendan, and i´ll try to answer them the best i can. Some of the questions you asked has been answered in the star wars animated tv serie that take place during the clone war, so here goes...
- Count Dooku was a waste of time. He showed up and probably could have done something worth while but he doesn't. They had to get rid of him fast because he wasn't killed in Episode II.
Somewhat true, but remember that he is the emperors apprentice, since Attack of the clones. With the clonewar going on for several years, it woulds seem odd that the emperor didnt get a new apprentice during the war if Dooku had been killed before the war actually startet back in episode 2. It also becomes obvious that the emperor has no need for dooku anymore, he´s brought anakin into the fold, ready to make him fall.
- Gen. Grevious was pointless and not even explained. Who was he? What was he? I know he was a droid but he seemed to have a human heart and human eyes and what not... so what was he?
Gen. Grievious is a cyborg, not a droid. My knowledge of his origin is limited but here is what i know ; The seperatists were avare that their battledroids were no match for the jedi in single combat, so they tried to clone a jedi themselves and add all sorts of bioware to create the ultimate hand to hand battledroid. The experiment was a failure because jedies cant be cloned due to the midi clorians. They took what they could use from the experiment and added it to the droid general in order to make him more powerfull. The seperatists were aware that grievous would be a prime target for the jediknights so they hoped that this would give him an edge. What they hadnt counted on was that the general would attain some part of the humanity that the cloneleftovers had. He than took the sithname Grievous instead of his robotic name. All his coughing and gagging is the result of a battle against a young boba fett who were hired to take grievous down. Grievous won the fight and left boba fett for dead.
- The Anakin vs. Obi-wan duel lasted too long.
I dont think so, and as Conan said we've been waiting for this fight since the prequels began.
spoiler
plus i like the fact that the duel ended almost the same way that the duel between Obi wan and Dart Maul in Ep. 1 ended. Obi wan had been in the same situation against maul that anakin were in, so obi wan had an edge. He knew the only way anakin could ever attack him effectively.
spoiler ends
- Anakin's turn to the darkside was pretty quick and lame. "Hey boy, I can make you make people live longer." "Really?" "Yep." "Wait a minute... do I have to join the dark side?" "Yep." "Oh fine." "Awsome! Your training shall begin, now kneel down and I will magically telepathically transfer the dark side knowledge to you even though that's not what I'm doing but in order for you to have the power we'll just for-go the 'training' I mentioned and just say you have the power so you can use it to fight Obi-wan and make Padme cry at the end of this movie." "Ah... ok?"
Anakin already knows how to use the force at this point, all he needs is to know how to use the dark side of it. The Sith use the force by looking within themselves and use their feelings (anger, hatred, fear, sorrow e.t.c.)to gain their jedi powers. anakin had to "cultivate" and understand these feelings in order for the dark side to corrupt him. This is done through the slaughter of all that is good, and is rewarded by the dark side. In essence this means that the more evil you do, the more powerfull you become. When anakin uses his dark powers against padme and obi wan all he really does is progress those feelings out towads them. Sort of like if you wish some annoying guy would just fall over and die, but here it actually works that way.
The only purpose it served was so that Yoda would be away from the Jedi Council building so Anakin wouldn't go all badass on him.
I´d say that´s a pretty good purpose. It builds up to the ending, gives anakin time to be corrupted, and with yoda in the jedi academy i think the ending would have been quite different, and the emperor out looking for a new apprentice... ;)
- Shouldn't the Jedi's (Yoda, Obi-Wan, Jimmy Smits) felt the "force" in Luke and Leia? And known there were twins? They do have those Micro-DeLoreans thingys in them you know.
Who says they didnt? It wasnt shown, but it seems pretty obvious that Obi wan stays on tatooine in order for him to one day train Luke. Obi wan says in episode 4 that he wanted to give luke his fathers lightsaber but that lukes uncle wouldnt allow it.
'Cause... well, you know... yah."
This actually raise a sidequestion i cant answer, but let´s take that later. It solves a question that´s been on a lot of SW fans mind for some time. Why didnt Qui gon dissapear the way Yoda and Obi wan does when they die?
The answer is that Yodas and Obi Wans knowledge about the force is so great that they can now commune with those who´ve joined the force (died) they have become the force themselves (the only way to contact the dead), only holding on to their human form in order to interact with the living world.
sidequestion : i´m curious about is how luke were able to see Obi wans ghost on Hoth? The training he has with obi wan in episode 4 is limited at best. One option could be that luke is dying himself and thus can see the dead. Obi wan having learned how to contact the living/dead the same way qui gon apparently has then tells luke that he must survive, but it´s still only guessing for my part...
Again, this raise a sidequestion i really cant answer but here goes ; The jedies dont want to carry all their eggs in one basket. If the twins were together, anakin could grab them both in one swoop. Leia goes to alderaan to be trained to become a senator to try and oppose the emperor in the senate, and luke goes to tatooine to become a future jedi knight to battle the sith. (books written about star wars after the movies tells that luke has the highest midi clorian count of the two twins)
Sidequestion : In ep. 6 luke asks leia if she can remember her mother, leia answers
sometimes, i remember she was very beautyfull, and very sad
eerrrhhh.... can anyone help me out here? Leia must have a pretty good memory if she remembers her mother :o One option could be that she was never told that she was an adopted orphan, and she thn really thinks about her adoptedf mother, but it´s still pretty thin...

Wow Dane, you really know your stuff and answered most of my questions, thanks. O0
-
Hey thanks dane, I am really getting into Star Wars now. O0
-
jimmy smits was not a bloody jedi!!!!!
he was a senator!!!!
my sidequestions would be
A, in epIII the new death star is being consructed, it's unleashed aprox 16 years later in epIV, then how come a second one is 75% operational in epVI with only a fraction of the time.
B, how old was dooku when he became sidious apprentice? it seems strange, he couldn't have been around in epI because yoda says there are always two, no more no less. so he recruited a pensioner for his apprentice!?!
-
Remember when Lord Sidious was talking to Anakin about the powerful Sith lord that was so powerful that he "can save lives" and "couldn't save himself" because he was scared to lose such a power? Was Sidious referring to his master?
-
Remember when Lord Sidious was talking to Anakin about the powerful Sith lord that was so powerful that he "can save lives" and "couldn't save himself" because he was scared to lose such a power? Was Sidious referring to his master?
it's fairley vague alright isn't it?
you would think he was but you'd have to assume no because otherwise he'd know how to save people
"he taught his apprentice everything he knew" but later says that anakin and himself will discover the secrets. you'd have to fall on the side of no, he wasn't, even though the delivery and filming making it sound like he was.

**SPOILERS**
- Shouldn't the Jedi's (Yoda, Obi-Wan, Jimmy Smits) felt the "force" in Luke and Leia? And known there were twins? They do have those Micro-DeLoreans thingys in them you know.
Forget the Midi-clorians.... What about simple technology? How could nobody know Padme was carrying twins?
More questions: How come the Jedi could not detect the force in Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious)?
How come Luke Skywalker keeps his name Skywalker if he's been given up for adoption, and is supposed to be kept hidden from his father?
-
Also, wouldn't the Jedi council be able to detect a conspiracy involving all them Stormtroopers and the Republic via the force?
-
Good questions, Little_bill. Here´s how it goes.
A, in epIII the new death star is being consructed, it's unleashed aprox 16 years later in epIV, then how come a second one is 75% operational in epVI with only a fraction of the time.
The death star is a powerful weapon, but it isnt exactly the fastest moving piece of junk in the galaxy. Therefore the emperor decided to have THREE death stars build, so they would form a perimeter in each of the 3 sectors that the star wars universe is split into (The 3 sectors are called the Coreworlds (which includes Coruscant), middle rim (where Alderaan, Naboo, Bespin, and Kashyyk is ) and outer rim (Tatooine, Hoth, and Endor) The deathstar you see in ep. 3 (a guess, but you see a young grand moff tarkin standing next to vader and the emperor at the end) and 4 is the second one build. The first death star was a problemfilled prototype that was quickly and quietly send into orbit around a far away black hole in order to perform "test shots" and other experiments that could help gather data that the construction of the two other death stars would need.
The prototype could possibly be under construction during ep. 2 seeing as the seperatists talk about
the weapon we are trying to build
but i´m guessing here...
BTW :The prototype death star is eventually destroyed by han solo when he blasts the shield generator that keeps it from being sucked into the black hole.
B, how old was dooku when he became sidious apprentice? it seems strange, he couldn't have been around in epI because yoda says there are always two, no more no less. so he recruited a pensioner for his apprentice!?!
Certainly gives the title ; Grumpy old men a new meaning, doesnt it ;).
I dont know how old count Dooku is, but i do know that
Palpatine recruits Dooku after the death of Darth Maul.
Dooku was a fully trained jedi when he was corrupted and may/may not have known Qui gon. Dooku hints to Obi wan in ep. 2 that he was trained by yoda, and that he might have trained Qui gon. Dooku recruits Jango fett under the alias Tyranus to sell his DNA to the caminoenans (the cloners) in order to create the republican clonearmy. The creation takes approx. 10 years for the first batch of clones to be ready, so if you add 10 years to the saga from ep. 1. to ep. 2. it fits together.
Mace Windu (Jackson) says in ep. 2. that Dooku was a former jedi who left the order and dissapeared. Dooku seems to fall due to his lust for power, as he say in ep. 2 I´ve become more powerful than any jedi, even you.
it's fairley vague alright isn't it?
you would think he was but you'd have to assume no because otherwise he'd know how to save people
"he taught his apprentice everything he knew" but later says that anakin and himself will discover the secrets. you'd have to fall on the side of no, he wasn't, even though the delivery and filming making it sound like he was.
Good argument on the NO side, but consider this ;
Would the emperor promise the powers he didnt have to an potential upcomming powerfull apprentice? I dont think anakin would take it nice if he found out he had been cheated of the very reason he had for joining the dark side, and i dont think the emperor would like to have a bitter enemy in his own ranks.
I think that the sith secrets that the emperor are referring to are some older, forgotten secrets.
Here is a list of the most "known" :
1. During the first Sith war (thousands of years before the movies take place) refers to sithlords cabable of destroying whole planets with their knowledge of the dark side of the force (and the use of Khiber crystals.)
2. The location and creation of these rare before mentioned crystals magnify the powers of those force-users that use them 10.000 folds.
(The Khiber crystals is an invention of Lucas himself after having read the Snow Queen fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen) and there were a lot of rumours about Lucas using the idea of Khiber crystals as being the downfall of anakin way back since before ep. 1.)
3. The secret of cloning a force-user. As earlier mentioned, jedis and siths cant be cloned due to the midi-clorians, but Palpatine mentions that Lord Plaugeis (the sith lord you are reffering to, who might/might not be palpatines master) knew how to make the midi clorians create life itself. I know that the emperor eventually learns this secret...
Hey thanks dane, I am really getting into Star Wars now.
Glad to hear you like it, Lin O0 How far have you come in your viewing of al six movies BTW ?
Wow Dane, you really know your stuff and answered most of my questions, thanks.
That´s because i dont have a ordinary life, but just "nerds" around in a corner :D ::)
Truth is that there´s been written a ton of star wars books, comics, cartoons, e.t.c. Some are very good, and some are EXTREMELY bad. the "problem" is that every script ever written has to be approved by lucas himself,so you´ll be guaranteed, that what is written is in the spirit of the star wars universe.
I usually talk with some of my friends who have been seduced by the dork side of the force. Listen to what they have to say about what they´ve read/seen/heard on the star wars web side, and then pick up what i think sounds promising. There are a lot of books and comics i highly recommend if you want to know what happends to luke and co. after the movies, but if i should pick something up it would be ;
Books ; Heir to the empire, a star wars trilogy by Timothy Zahn. A well known sci fi writer, even before he joined up with lucas.
Heir to the empire sees the rebels under attack by the highly intelligent Grand Admiral Thrawn after ROTJ.
Comics : EMPIRE ; BETRAYAL. In which a "young" darth vader and Emperor is betrayed by a clique of highranking conspirators within the empire. This is also the first time that Vader meets Boba fett...
The comic is well drawn, and the story reminds me of the old legends about roman senators who backstabbed each other whenever they saw an oppertunity.
DARK EMPIRE. In which Luke is confronted with an ressurected emperor (remember sithsecret 3 ;) )and FALLS to the dark side... It is now up to a pregnant Princess Leia who barely knows her fledgling jedi powers to save him. It was followed by DARK EMPIRE 2, which was okay, but not as great as the first, and concluded in EMPIRES END which is downright dissastrous... :'(
BTW. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them.
-
Forget the Midi-clorians.... What about simple technology? How could nobody know Padme was carrying twins?
Strong i am in the knowledge of star wars, but not that strong... ;) She was probably too busy buying new dresses and robes to mention it to anakin :D
More questions: How come the Jedi could not detect the force in Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious)?
Mace Windu and Yoda talks in ep. 2 about revealing to the senate that their powers to reveal the dark presence of the sith is diminished
yoda ; the weil of the dark side clouds everything
so that´s part of the explanation.
the second part is that the sith and jedi have a way of hiding the force/dark force within them. Its called mindshielding and is usually used to avoid being "jedi mind tricked" by a stronger forceuser. This power has to be in use all the time, so it´s pretty damn difficult to keep up, but it is do-able.
the third part is that after count Dooku reveals to Obi Wan that a dark lord of the sith rules the senate, the jedi keeps it at secret in order to root out the sith. But a senator finds out about this and talks in private to Chancellor Palpatine about taking blood samples from all senate members in order to find out who has Midi clorians in their blood. The senator later dies under mysterious circumstances...
And Palpatine then knows that the jedis are on his trail.
How come Luke Skywalker keeps his name Skywalker if he's been given up for adoption, and is supposed to be kept hidden from his father?
Because Luke is adopted by his "own family". His mother married the moisturefarmer on tatooine (that she lived with untill she was killed by the sandpeople)
In the animated tv-series that takes place during the clone wars, anakin returns to tatooine to indulge in some sandpeople slaughter and learns that the farmer has taken on the name skywalker later on in honor of her. Anakin decides not to return to tatooine ever again because there is too many sad memories there, a plan he tells obi wan...
It is speculated that the reason that Uncle Owen (ep.4) dont want luke to join Obi Wan, is because he dont want to attract vaders attention...
Also, wouldn't the Jedi council be able to detect a conspiracy involving all them Stormtroopers and the Republic via the force?
The force doesnt work quite that way. You would have to "force-sense" a lot of clonetrooper to find out that something is amiss. The jedi may have tested the first batch of clonetroopers, but when the clonewar reach it´s end, we are up on third or fourth generation of clonetroopers and they may have been implanted with order 66. The jedis who have been fighting along side the clonetroopers for nearly a decade isnt expecting an attack from that front.
Also if you think of order 66 as a implant in a brainwashed mind it would make more sense why a clonetrooper that Obi wan seems to be on friendly basis with gives obi wan his lightsaber after the fight with Gen. Grievous and only seconds later (when order 66 is given) blasts him from the cliffs above...
-
don't forget for the sake of the older 3 movies leia's identity had to be a mystery to vader. when he discovered luke was his son, if he'd have known about the twins he would have sought the other child, whereas in EP VI he says"so you have a sister, obi wan was wise to hide her from me, now his failure is complete" so it was necessary for anakin to think that only the one baby existed.
okay now ythe dooku thing makes sense.
however the emperor clearly states after killing mace windu that he and anakin willl discover the power to keep people alive together, he doesn't know it and therefore couldn't be the apprentice. besides how would the jedi tell of darth plagus the wise ,as he asks anakin, if he was his master, the sith at that time were all secret so the jedi would not know them.
-
don't forget for the sake of the older 3 movies leia's identity had to be a mystery to vader.
True, but that still dont answer why padme didnt know about the twins she was carrying. One option could be that when Padme found out she was pregnant, she kept it at secret from everyone. The jedi knights were healers too, and such a healer would definetly be present when a senator gave birth (not only to ease the labor, but also check for potential future jedi with a midi clorian count, and the presence of a baby with an huge ammount of these would certainly raise some eyebrows.)
however the emperor clearly states after killing mace windu that he and anakin willl discover the power to keep people alive together, he doesn't know it and therefore couldn't be the apprentice.
Apparently i dont remember the specific lines there, so i guess i´ll have to go watch it again ;)
besides how would the jedi tell of darth plagus the wise ,as he asks anakin, if he was his master, the sith at that time were all secret so the jedi would not know them.
hmmm. it would seem that you have almost turned me to the NO side, little_bill. Sidious do refer to the story as a Sith legend, and since a legend is an old story, it would seem a big possibility that the emperor isnt the pupil (unless he got the power of longelevity as yoda does)
BTW Lin. If you enjoyed store wars, you´re gonna love this :D
http://www.theforce.net/fanfilms/shortfilms/troops/
it´s a small movie made by star wars fans. Basicly it´s an episode of COPS as it would have been made in the star wars universe. O0
ALL SUSPECTS ARE GUILTY, PERIOD! OTHERWISE THEY WOULDNT BE SUSPECTS, WOULD THEY ? ;D

yeah i'm pretty sure thats what he says, i've only seen it five times though. here's an excuse to go back again.

Five times! WOW! I stand humbled in the presence of a master ;) O0

but it's just not going to be the same on the tv no matter how big your tv is, so i'm seeing it loads at the cinema. i'm definitely going more times. it's a cinema movie.

So true. I´ve seen it two times so far, and i still have to "adjust my eyeballs" when i leave the cinema. The details are immense.
geek alert
BTW heve you spottet the small YT1300 (millenium falcon) arriving at the docks when anakins and obi-wans shuttle arrive at the senate. It´s a nice touch
-
no is still haven't spoted that yet, i must check it again, there's so much to see in each scene, a lot of work went into this movie.

Yeah,I did notice that, but if you blink you'll miss it.When I saw it I thought nah couldn't have been. Also a friend of mine said that George Lucas made a cameo appearance.Anyone know where?

I dont know where he is, but i´ve read a interview with Mccallum (the producer) that says that lucas indeed is somewhere so its not a goose, but i have yet to spot him...
-
I didn't see him and I've seen Revenge Of The Sith twice now! Once on the day it came out, and two days later...I thought it was great. Jar Jar Binks barely in it at all, and he didn't open his mouth, so that was a bonus! I got the old thrill when I saw the title credits come up at the beginning...and the music...what a rush!
Best headline re. ROTS: I believe it was the New York Daily News that said 'The Sith hits the fans' ;D Apologies if it's already been said, but it made me laugh :)

There's already an episode III thread harry, you might want to check it out, it's been going for a while, lots of discussion on the movie HERE (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=3248.0)

Hey guys. I'm back after a long silence.
Then scene where Anakin is running to the chancellors box, is the scene Lucas is in. His daughters are also in that scene.

"Go I will, great releationship with wookies I have"
and so with this movie ends the pre quell trioglys.
I only rate Star Wars Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi as true stars movies.
The news ones didin't feel like star wars
Shame on you Lucas
-
i think thats harsh the new ones had to be different, if you were a nerdy star wars fan you'd know that. it's a differnet time to the originals and a different story. III was pretty good, better than I and II and better than the muppet show return of the jedi.
-
I only rate Star Wars Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi as true stars movies.
Are you saying that Return of the jedi is better than A new hope?
HOW AND WHY ?

I believe what kiwi is trying to say is: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi (in other words, the original three) are the true Star Wars movies. Of course, I could be wrong.
