EDIT(11/09/2009) This has been postponed till January 2010. I modified this post to change the date on the topic title.
OK, this is highly unusual since we haven't had this month's movie night yet, hell we haven't even decided what we're seeing this month yet.
Anyway, D'Amb & I have made an excutive decision, (hopefully Brendan & KC don't mind) that if we can get enough people interested and can work out a suitable starting time for everyone, our movie night in November will be The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
This is going to take sometime to work out and it's the main reason I'm starting this thread now.
Things we all need to agree on:
The Date
The Starting Time
Which version of the DVD we'll all be viewing
How many intermission we'll need
There's probably some other things to discuss, so if you have any questions please ask.
For this to go ahead, it will depend on participation.
So who interested and what DVD version do you have and your preferred starting time?
-
At the moment the only dates that aren't good for me are, November 7/21 & 28.
The last few movie nights have started at 6:00am for us down under, & since we're now on daylight saving time, an hour earlier will still be 6:00am.
I only have the new extended version DVD.
I was thinking maybe 4 or 5 intermissions for this film. Maybe a couple of 5 minute breaks before a long 10-15 minute break halfway through before another couple of short breaks in the second half.
-
I am OK on the 14th and any of the Sundays.
I have the 'Special Edition' running time 2 hours 51 mins. It is a two disc version.
The intermissions sound fine to me. 2 breaks then a longer one to make coffee etc. and then two more short ones. I guess we should start earlier if we can as it will be very late for the folk in Europe if we start at 10 pm. our time.
-
I think the starting time is going to be the big stumbling block.
If we start earlier than normal, and we really do have to for an almost 3 hour movie, it will be early evening in Europe, early afternoon in the states and early morning down here.
-
It depends on how many people based in Europe will be joining in. As for me I don't mind what time we start, but satu, Higgy and AB will probably not want to be too late finishing. I am quite happy to go along with whatever time is best for the majority.
-
Perhaps we could consider changing the day/night to a Friday or Saturday? The starting time for me isn’t a problem so if we need to bump any which way is fine.
-
Sorry if the question is silly, but are you planning this to the next movie night already or it just in November?
If it is, is fine by me starting earlier than the usual time.
My DVD version is the one with 161 minutes .
I can't only on Saturdays :(
-
Sorry if the question is silly, but are you planning this to the next movie night already or it just in November?
Not sure what you mean Aline?
We're still having a movie night this month.
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly will be our movie night in November.
-
Maybe on a Friday?
-
If everyone was happy to go with a Friday night, it would be ok.
-
I think Aline is asking the question...is there no movie night in October? Which I was thinking the same thing.
So SK we are talking about 2 movie nights in the next 2 months and planning same? Planning a GBU will obvisiously take alot longer, so that's the plan. :)
BTW I'm pretty sure I've got both versions of GBU.
GBU will be an awesome night/morning. :o I can't wait.
-
Yeah, we're still having a movie night this month.
I started a seperate thread to discuss having The Good, The Bad & The Ugly in November so there wouldn't be any confusion, and I knew it was going to take longer to organize than normal.
Sorry for the confusion folks. :-[
-

Yes, it's was confusing because those two threads are very next to each other and many people are changing/replacing their votes by GBU in the thread "Nominations For Movie Night: October 2009".
If it is really going to have a GBU movie night in November, let's give a chance to the other movies.
Yes, I think it could be on a friday.
-
Does anyone have a problem if we do this on a Friday Night?
I was thinking it might be the best for this film since it's going to be a late finish for our members in Europe.
-
Nope not unless I'm working.
-

Fridays good for me if I can plan in advance...
-
For now yes, although it's a little risky confirm it so ahead of time ???
-
Friday is fine for me, but I have no idea what version of the dvd I have. ??? Special Edition? My dad has it, so I can't check right now.. But this one I actually have for sure and I can participate this one. And I'm so glad we're finally doing a western. ;)
-
OK, let's plan for a Friday Night in November to watch The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
The available dates are November 6, 13, 20 & 27.
The only date which is out for me is the 27th, all others are good to go.
-
6, 13 and 20 are good for me.
-
All good so far for me.
-
November 13 and 20 don't work for me, I'm out of town. I know we have some kind of special edition of that dvd, but I'll have to check it later.
Starting time would be fine around 10-11 pm for me, 12 pm would be kinda late.. :-\ But I can do 11 pm. O0
-
I am OK for a friday night and I can be there on all the Fridays in November. The time is not too important although like satu I don't want to start too late as it is sucha long movie.
-
I was looking at the 13th or 20th, but that's no good for Satu.
Then the 27th is no good for me. The 6th is too soon to today's movie night I think.
We might have to go with the first friday in December, the 4th?
-
That is OK for me too.
-
Fine with me.
-
So it won't be in november anymore?! :( A entire month to go yet, I can't say with certainty...but I want to be in.
-
At the moment it's only Lin, SC and myself.
Aline only has the original version DVD, we have to hear back from Satu about whether the first Friday in December is good for her and which DVD she has, & D'Amb has gone MIA again, although a GBU movie night should get him back here.
Is there anyone else interested?
I'd like to see a few more before we say for sure this is going to go ahead. I know it's five week's away but I don't want plan all this only to see three show up.
-
I could do it on almost any night proposed so far, including the first Friday in December. :)
-
By the way, this movie is so well known that I think a Movie Night would work even for people with the old, shorter version. Those of us with the new version would just post when one of the newly inserted scenes starts and stops, and the others could pause their movie at that point, then continue.
-
I have this one:
KC's idea is good. As for me, even if all of you are going to watch the longer version, I want to be in.
-
I definitely want in on this one. All dates looks ok so far. I've got the extended version of the movie.
-
December 4th okay with me. I'll check the dvd asap. O0
-
OK, we're moving forward.
Friday, December 4, 2009. will be the date of our next movie night here on the board. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
As KC mentioned it won't be a major problem what version DVD you have.
Our next decision to make is the starting time. We don't want to start too late for our European members but if we start too early that may not work in favour of our USA members being in the afternoon. Of course being a friday night maybe our usual starting time wouldn't be a hassle for our European members?
-
These were the starting times for our last movie night, Hang 'Em High.
In CST (U.S. Central Time Zone) states - 3:00 PM
In EST (U.S. East Coast) states - 4:00 PM
In Sao Paulo, Brazil - 6:00 PM
In Great Britain, Portugal - 8:00 PM
In France, Italy - 9:00 PM
In Finland - 10:00PM
In Sydney and Melbourne, Australia - 7:00 AM (The Next day).
If we stay with these times, is it going to cause a problem for our USA members?
-
It seems I'll be the only one with the 161 minutes version. I'll need some of you tell me when a "extra" scene shows up so i can pause the dvd.
Are there many extra scenes in the extended version?! One of them is that one where Blondie is on the bed with a prostitute?
How long is the movie (in minutes)?
-
How long is the movie (in minutes)?
The Region 4 DVD extended version runs 171 minutes.
-
I just realized ... if it's on a Friday, it's not good for me. I don't get home till at least 7:00 PM on Fridays. That's three hours after the proposed starting time. :-\
Was there a reason why it has to be a Friday? Could a Saturday work?
-
I think Saturday's were no good for Aline and I know I'm playing golf four Sundays( SC & I are a day ahead remember) in a row from November 22 - December 13, so that put Saturday's out for two of us.
Friday's were good except when I noticed it was still in the afternoon in the USA.
Back to the drawing board folks. :-[
-
Well, if it has to be a Friday, maybe I could take a couple of hours off. It partly depends on whether I'm very busy. I think that's the weekend when I'm supposed to do a guided tour of the Library's stacks on Sunday, but that probably won't affect my plans for Friday.
-
I was always concerned about starting too late for Satu, but if we do go for a friday night, starting at 11 or Midnight, Finland time, maybe it wouldn't be too much of a hassle this one time for Satu who wouldn't have to get up early on a Saturday morning.
Satu, how does that sound?
-
It would be nice if SK made a list with votes so that we can visualize the dates better. The day with more votes, wins.
If it is just me who can't on saturday, I think I may do an effort and stay.
-

That's the thing though, if we take a vote for a particular day, someone is going to miss out or have to change their schedule for the day to join us. I don't really want that. We all love this movie and I want everyone here. I don't care how long this takes to organize and if it doesn't happen till next year, so be it. I just don't want anyone to miss out.
-
Your right SK. One in all in. :)
This is reminding me of the MASH episode "The Party". :D
-
This is reminding me of the MASH episode "The Party". :D
I was going to post about that, but thought probably only you, RE and myself would remember it. ;D
-
Maybe we could wait until the stretch between Christmas and New Years? I'm going to be taking some time off work then.
I know a lot of you others will be very busy then, though, so that may not be such a good idea, either.
-

I just checked and 11pm Finland time is 4pm New York time so that's not going to work either.
-
I think we'll scrap trying for a Friday and go with a Saturday night.
Maybe we could wait until the stretch between Christmas and New Years? I'm going to be taking some time off work then.
Either that or what about the Saturday before Christmas, December 19.
EDIT: I forgot, Saturday's are no good for Aline. :-\

Cool with me.
Either that or what about the Saturday before Christmas, December 19.
Also fine.
-
Saturday before Christmas should be fine with me, too. :)
-

Not for me, Kid. If everybody is available, I can make it. Afterall it would be just for one saturday!
-
Are you sure Aline?
If so great.
So now we are asking if Saturday December 19 is OK with everyone?
-
Actually, I just went through this whole thread again and we may not have to wait till the week before Christmas.
What about Saturday November 14?
Satu said the 13th she was out of town, but maybe the 14th would be fine. Lin was OK with the 14th, maybe that could work?
-
What about Saturday November 14?
OK here.
-
Me too. Better than December,19 :)
-
Right now, I think it's OK with me ... Some friends and I are trying to agree on a date for dinner and that date is still in play. But we should have it figured out soon and I think it's going to be sooner than the 14th.
-
I could be joining as well! All I really need to know is what time zone you're in so I can adjust after that :)
-
It would be great to have you join us AnecdotistOwl. (We'll have to find a nickname for you, so we don't have to type that all the time though :D)
I don't know where you are but just check this website to work out the different times.
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
-
If you want to keep it short and simple Owl works just fine ;) Thanks for the link. Still need to know which time zone I should adapt myself after though :P But it's a problem future-me kan deal with I guess.
-
Just check out some of the movie night threads and you'll find out normal starting times.
It depends on which country you live in.
So where are you from Owl?
-
Allright, thanks. I'll do that!
I'm from Sweden :)
-
We usually start at 20:00 UTC, board time which translates to:
In CST (U.S. Central Time Zone) states - 3:00 PM
In EST (U.S. East Coast) states - 4:00 PM
In Sao Paulo, Brazil - 6:00 PM
In Great Britain, Portugal - 8:00 PM
In France, Italy - 9:00 PM
In Finland - 10:00PM
In Sydney and Melbourne, Australia - 7:00 AM (The following Day)
For you in Sweden, Owl it would be 9:00PM. :)
-
Thanks alot for giving me that information ;D Perfect!
-
I remember MASH The Party too!!! :)
November the 14th is no good for me we have theatre tickets and wont be home until well after 11.30 UK time. If I am the only one who can't make it on that day don't try to change it again I can always watch it on my own another time and read all the posts you all make. :)
Edit... December 19th is not good for me either I have a long standing dinner party for our Yule celebrations and there will be a lot of folk at my home until the early hours of the morning. :( Please don't worry about considering me i can normally make all the movie nights so I can cope with missing one even if it is GBU. :)
-

SK, those times seem to be off (perhaps a change from Daylight Savings Time wasn't taken into account).
I haven't checked them all, but 4:00 PM EST (US East Coast) would be 9:00 PM in the UK, 10:00 PM in Sweden and 11:00 in Finland. And 8:00 AM in Sydney.
I'm using http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html set to 4 PM, New York Time on Saturday, November 14.
-
:) I would still like to wait a little until when D'Amb decides to participate GBU or not, because it is him who proposed GBU at first !
It is not necessarily to hurry, I think. If, we watch an another movie for November ? And how it, we can have more folks as we had Owl !
Maybe Kid also ? ;)
-
SK, those times seem to be off (perhaps a change from Daylight Savings Time wasn't taken into account).
Yes, my apologies.
It should read:
In CST (U.S. Central Time Zone) states - 2:00 PM

No Lin, it's OK, as I said yesterday. It doesn't matter how long this takes to organize, no one is missing out.

Maybe Kid also ? ;)
D'Amb's been asking for GBU for a few years now, so I too don't want him to miss out as well.
Maybe Higgy's right, we put GBU on hold and we go with another film this month?
-
I think we do have to wait until we hear from D'Amb, at least. It wouldn't be fair not to include him in a GBU Movie Night!
-
I think we do have to wait until we hear from D'Amb, at least. It wouldn't be fair not to include him in a GBU Movie Night!
I agree KC and SK it is only fair D'Amb doesn't miss this one.
-
I’m in for sure!
All dates and times will work for me as long as I have somewhat of an advance notice.
I can’t wait. This one should be great! 8)
-
I knew he would return!! 8)
It looks like if we want to do this on a Saturday and no one misses out, it won't happen till the new year.
If we go back and try and figure out a Sunday and I know that doesn't suit our European members being such a long film, but if we could start a little earlier than normal maybe that could work.
Upcoming Sundays: November 15, 22 or 29.
December 6, 13 or 20
-
Nov 22, Dec 6 and 20 are good, the rest of those days I'll be at work.
-
I could do it pretty much any weekend day. Got nothin' better to do! ;)
-
If we did go for a Sunday, maybe we could start at 19:00 UTC, which would be:
In CST (U.S. Central Time Zone) states - 1:00 PM
In EST (U.S. East Coast) states - 2:00 PM
In Sao Paulo, Brazil - 5:00 PM
In Great Britain, Portugal - 7:00 PM
In France, Italy - 8:00 PM
In Finland - 9:00PM
In Sweden - 8:00PM
In Sydney and Melbourne, Australia - 6:00 AM (The following Day)
Those times should be correct. (Fingers crossed)
Maybe that could work out. It will still be an after midnight finish for Satu though.
-
Sunday has been always my favorite day. Those dates and times are good with me.
-
I'm in for sure!
All dates and times will work for me as long as I have somewhat of an advance notice.
I can't wait. This one should be great! 8)
:) D'Amb came back fast and I am very happy ! :D The special movie night of GBU with him will be very pleasant and fun ! Thanks to that, I could finally discover the new GBU for 171' ! 8) The DVD which I displayed in the bookshelf with other DVDs for decorations for a long time ! :P It was '... Josey Wales ' which I began for my first movie night. However I had only of VHS of this film, with the word of KC, ' it doesn't matter, both are the same films ! ' who made me decided to participate. 8) Then if I had the DVD in the same movie I participate with VHS ! ::) Sometimes I am lost but it is not very important ! I manage ! :D
For the register also, VHS is simpler for me by usual. There will be ` Million Dollar Baby ' on Thursday evening, 8) and certainly I am going to register that for VHS, even if I have that in DVD (the special edition, with thanks to that I registered in this forum on December 24th, 2006 to remember of this Christmas present. 8) However, it is in January, 2008 when I finally decided to begin to posting ! ) :D
I am all right for 22, 29 November and 6, 13 December, for the moment.
-
Are you still OK for any Sunday Lin?
Owl & Alcatraz, what about you guys? Any preferred Sunday?
Satu? Are you there Satu? Has anyone seen Satu? Is a Sunday OK with you?
-
I'm available any sunday so what ever you guys prefer, I'm in.
-
As far as I know I am OK for Sunday nights.
-
Sundays work for me. Although I don't think I could make the 22nd. Not a definite no there, but most likely wouldn't be able to do it. All others work so far.
-
We're only awaiting Satu for this to get a green light.
I was leaning towards November 22, but if that's no good for Alcy and November 29 was out for SC, it looks like it may be December 6. 8)
-
December 6 is OK for me.

Who is Alcy, Kid? ???
-
Who is Alcy, Kid? ???
Short for Alcatraz. :)
-
Short for Alcatraz. :)
I would never know ???
-
I would never know ???
I got my username after I saw Escape from Alcatraz. Y'all call me Alcy though.
:)
-
Oi, it's been over two years since I joined. How time flies.
-
Oh, sorry. You've been waiting for me to answer. :-[ Sunday's fine. I still haven't checked the dvd, but I will as soon as I go home.. That will be when my parents come back home, they're in Spain.. 8)
-
OK, I think we finally have a date!!
Sunday December 6, 2009.
A final call, is this fine with everyone?
-
No, December 6 is not good for me because I have an event at the Library. Sorry, that date and Sunday, December 13 are about the only ones I can't do in the next couple of months.
I'm really sorry I didn't post that earlier. Somehow in all the excitement I kind of forgot. :-[
-
Just when you think it's a go, they pull me back and no. :D
Mmmm,
So what's everyone want to do?
Try for December 20 & try quickly to organize another movie for November 22 or 29?
I know that will mean either SC or Alcy will miss out. Or should we take a break this month and just try & get GBU organized?
-
I'm really sorry. :(
-
I'm really sorry. :(
Nah, it's all good. We waited this long to view GBU a few more weeks/months won't hurt. Like I said last week, no one is going to miss this. It's going to be the biggest thing to hit the board since I don't know what, so whenever it happens everyone is going to be involved.
-
December 20 is very close to christmas, usually my family reunites for a previous dinner or something.
Please, no offense to anyone, I just want to help, but if Kid want to set this in a way that fits everybody's schedules, I think it will never happen :P
-
I am sure we can come up with a date even if, as SK says, it is some weeks/months away. ;)
-
OK, here is what we've decided to do.
The GBU Movie Night has been postponed until 2010.
We will be having a Movie Night on Sunday November 22. A poll has been set up HERE. (http://www.clinteastwood.org/forums/index.php?topic=8088.msg146412#msg146412.)
To speed things up,I have bypassed the nominations process and just put the three films with the most nominations from October that got beaten by Hang 'Em High.
There will be no Movie night during December as I'm sure we'll all be busy with the holidays and family, so we'll spend that month organizing GBU for hopefully January 2010.
-
Just a note that I modified my first post in this thread to change the date on the topic title.
-
I'm posting the weekend dates for January 2010. I know it's a long way off and I don't even know when golf kicks off next year yet, so I can't pick any days, but I thought if we get the dates up early it will give us plenty of time to look at them and choose our preferred date.
Saturday's Sunday's
2nd 3rd
9th 10th
16th 17th
23rd 24th
30th 31st
Obviously the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd may be too close to New Year and people may still be recovering but I posted it just in case. :)
-
Well for me any weekend AFTER 2 & 3 Jan would be fine.
-
Ditto, as far as I know now.
-
The dates are good to me too.
-
At this moment all dates except the 2nd are fine for me. O0
-
If you guys pick a day soon, I will put in a shift preference at work so I can join you all. :)
-
That would be great if you could join us Chessie. Hopefully within the next few weeks we can come up with a definite date in January.
-
If you guys pick a day soon, I will put in a shift preference at work so I can join you all. :)
Hey Chessie, it would be great if could join us. Good to see you on the board even if it is only now and again. :)
-
The 17th and the 24th are no good for me. All the rest are fine.
-
Saturday's Sunday's
2nd 3rd
9th 10th
16th 17th
23rd 24th
30th 31st
Since we've turned the page I've posted the dates again.
We'll forget about the 2nd/3rd and try for the 9th. If that's no good for anyone let us know and we'll move onto the 10th and so on and so on.
So how's Saturday January 9 for everyone?
-
The 17th and the 24th are no good for me. All the rest are fine.
Oopps I meant the 10th and the 17th. :-[
-
The 9th should be OK for me.
-
The 9th or the 10th should be good with me as long as it doesn’t interfere with The Cincinnati Bengal’s wild card berth. Hopefully they just win the division outright and they wouldn’t be on until the week after the 9th.
The 16th 17th, 24th are no good for me. Divisional and Championship Playoff time…
-
Go Bengals! :)
-
I've said once Saturdays aren't good for me, but if the most of you choose this day, I'll try to be here.
-
The 9th is best for me.
-
I'll be there on the 9th if that will be chosen.. I have a special edition dvd, lenght 2h 51 min.
-
I'll be there on the 9th if that will be chosen.. I have a special edition dvd, lenght 2h 51 min.
I have the same version as satu-. Special edition 2hrs 51 mins. Is there a longer one than that?
-
I have the same version as satu-. Special edition 2hrs 51 mins. Is there a longer one than that?
No, that's the longest version.
-
I'll be on winter break most of January, so any weekend is good for me. So the 9th is cool. I've got the special edition version.
-
From all our regular movie night participants, Higashimori is the only one yet to post if the 9th is OK with her.
If it is OK, I think we have found a date that suits everyone. 8)

Let's decide on a time next please so I can put a shift preference in at work. Cause this is one I truly do not wanna miss! :)

Since the tv survivor game has now finished, I can give my full attention to this and the upcoming film discussion.
I think we will be starting an hour earlier than usual since we're looking at close to a four hour sitting with this film. Nearly three hours for the film and with the two extra intermissions, you can add at least 30-40 mins onto that. That would make it a 20:00 UTC, starting time.
I will post the official starting times within the next couple of days.
-
These will be the official start times in your area for our movie night on January 9, 2010. I will be posting the official thread a week before the night as usual and these times will be there as they always are.

I was searching the net for any info about the extra scenes. I was actually hoping to find at what specific times these scenes appear but had no luck. If anyone knows or knows of a site that does have that info, I'd be grateful for a heads up.
After being betrayed by Blondie, surviving the desert on his way to civilization and assembling a hybrid revolver from parts of various original makes, Tuco meets with members of his gang in a distant cave, where he conspires with them to hunt and kill Blondie.
During his search for Bill Carson, Angel Eyes stumbles upon an embattled Confederate outpost after a massive artillery bombardment. Once there, after witnessing the wretched conditions of the survivors, he bribes a Confederate NCO for clues about Bill Carson.
The sequence with Tuco and Blondie crossing the desert has been extended: Tuco mentally tortures a severely dehydrated Blondie by eating and drinking in front of him.
Tuco, transporting a dehydrated Blondie, finds a Confederate camp whose occupants tell him that Brother Ramirez's monastery is nearby.
Angel Eyes appears at a Union camp, where his affiliation with the Union Army and his rank is explained.
Tuco and Blondie discuss their plans when departing in a wagon from Brother Ramirez's monastery.
A scene where Blondie and Angel Eyes are resting by a creek when a man appears and Blondie shoots him. Angel Eyes asks the rest of his men to come out (all are hidden as well). When the five men come out, Blondie counts them (including Angel Eyes), and concludes that six is the perfect number. Angel Eyes asks him why, mentioning that he had heard that three was the perfect number. Blondie responds that six is the perfect number, because he has six bullets left in his revolver.
The sequence with Tuco, Blondie and the Union Captain has been extended: the Captain asks the pair questions about their pasts, which they are reluctant to answer.

As far as I know, I'll be the only person with the short version. Wonder who will be the
victim angel who will help me.I can think of SK or KC.
I found this image from the menu extended version (portuguese version):
Excluded scenes:
Extended scene of Tuco torture
The Help scene: the reconstruction (not sure what it is)
With some help I will be able to make it. All I'll need to know is when pause while the extras scenes are playing and when press "play" again :)

The extra scenes shouldn't be a problem, it's the scenes that have been extended. That's where we may run into hassles about where to pause.

I found this site that gives a detailed account of all the extra scenes and extended scenes for The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
The times are for R-2 DVD which may cause confusion on the night as I'll be posting for R-4 DVD.

Don't worry about that so much, Kid. I'll be lost sometimes, of course, but I can make it and I promise I won't mess the natural course of the session to the other members.
