Title: Clint Eastwood Films on TV and Upcoming TV Interviews
Post by: The Schofield Kid on November 29, 2009, 01:48:16 PM
This is the place to post about Clint Eastwood films that are going to be shown on TV where you are, to inform other members and guests. This is mainly only for those Eastwood films that rarely get any TV time or special events where they might show several films in a row, or have a festival of some kind.

Use this thread also to post news about upcoming appearances by Clint on TV (and radio) talk shows.

Australian viewers with access to The World Movies Channel can catch Clint's very first screen role in Revenge Of The Creature.

It's being shown on December 5, 6, 16 & 17. Check your local guides for air times.

:)  Since when Clint had the first prize of Lumière in Lyon Festival and had to begin to filming of ' Hereafter ' and finally whom he had of the region of the honor, there is almost Clint's film every weeks!  8)  Among his films, we saw ' Million Dollar Baby ' two weeks ago for the first time and on Thursdays next, we can see for the first time on TV ' Flags of Our Fathers '!   And when for ' Letters For Iwo Jima '?? !  Soon, I hope !   ::)

There's been a slight change of title to this thread to now include interviews that Clint does on TV and Radio. Obviously there may be a few in the coming weeks/months with Invictus opening up around the world.

To get us started, I'll quote a couple of posts from the Invictus reviews and features thread ...

Clint is also on Lopez Tonight (TBS) on Tuesday December 8.

Matt [Damon] is on the Early Show on 8 December.

(Not Clint, but of interest here, of course!)

And this is from a thread AB started for Clint's appearance on Ellen Degeneres' show, also on December 8 ...

I love my neighbors here on the Warner Brothers lot -- especially CLINT EASTWOOD. (I also do a really great impression of him.) He has been in legendary roles and directed Oscar-winning movies, and he's up to it again with his new film "Invictus." He doesn't go on talk shows often, but he's decided to come here, and I'm excited! Also, in the movie he featured an a cappella group called OVERTONE, and they'll be here to perform for us.

After talking with the other Mods, I've moved several posts out of this thread and into the thread "INVICTUS: Reviews and features in the media." Except for Dan Dassow's post about the Today show (which was actually made after the show had already aired), they were all posts providing links to TV interviews that had already been seen "live" on TV and were now available on the Internet. Which is fine, but the idea with this "sticky" thread (for both Clint movies and interviews) was to use it to give people a heads-up on upcoming TV events.

Obviously, nowadays most TV interviews show up online shortly after they are aired "live," but it's still nice to catch something as it happens, and on what is still for most people "the big screen" as opposed to a small video window on your computer monitor.

Once they're available on the Net, links to them and comments can be posted in the appropriate thread. Which this time around is probably going to be the Invictus reviews and features thread. :)

By the way, the posts I moved included one of my own!  :o  ;)

All right I learned this morning that Eastwood would be on French TV tonight on "Sept à huit" (from 7PM to 8PM) on the first channel (TF1). They're doing some sort of portrait of the man they call "A Legend"  O0

Link (http://www.tf1.fr/sept-a-huit/sommaire/l-emission-du-03-janvier-2010-5618387.html)

Our French-speaking members should be able to watch the show HERE (http://www.tf1.fr/sept-a-huit/) after it airs.

A legend:

Today Clint Eastwood remains one of the biggest names in Hollywood as well as one of the most important figures in international cinema. A great career as an actor and an undeniable talent as a director. From Unforgiven to Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino and Changeling, it seems Eastwood only knows how to make masterpieces, films that inevitably win both the critics and the public all over the world. (...) How does it feel to be considered a myth? How does he explain people's fascination with him and his work? On the eve of his 80th birthday, where does he find the energy to keep going? (...)

PS: The show's starting in 25 minutes (French time).

:) Family and I came back early in the afternoon from my parents in law, to see that "live" on Channel 1, all sat to listen to him
And as ever ... Clint Eastwood smiling, talking, joking ... a perfect moment to start the year, only a few days to wait now to see "Invictus" on French screens (13rd of january) !
;) I'm sure you felt the same AB ! ;)

Sure it was nice to see him BUT the interview wasn't very in-depth and -worst part  :D it was DUBBED :( which I truly hate because you can't hear a thing he's saying.

Besides like many many other interviews, after a certain time they all sound the same. The questions are the same and ultimately so are the answers.

I know I'm being picky (and maybe a bit blase too)  :-\ ::) ;)

I hit the Remind me button so I would be sure to record The First Traveling Saleslady and saw that the movie is also set to be shown on April 1 at 11 AM EDT. I haven't seen many of the films featuring Eastwood in bit parts, so this should be interesting. Anyhow, it is nice to see that TCM is celebrating his 80th birthday!

I've seen it a few times.  The movie itself isn't much but Clint is great in it.  He looks so young too and it's great seeing him in color.

German television is showing a new 30-minute documentary on Eastwood next Tuesday as part of the long-running series "Kennwort Kino." It's directed by Peter Paul Huth and Maik Platzen. It'll be followed by a showing of The Dead Pool (why? ???); later on in the week, they'll be featuring Honkytonk Man.

Clinton Elias Eastwood Jr. turns 80 years young on Monday, May 31, providing a good enough reason for cable’s Turner Classic Movies to devote a day’s worth of programming to hail the actor-director’s considerable output, with everything from seminal spaghetti westerns to the adventures of Los Angeles police inspector Harry Callahan’s magnum-toting anti-hero. A new documentary titled The Eastwood Factor (Warner Home Video; 88 minutes; unrated; 2010) will also be broadcast on TCM as part of the festivities, but alas it’s more of a mixed bag that only tells part of the story.

What Eastwood seems to most resist is labels. In real life, he's a conservative guy, but his film characters have almost always been concerned with what's just and fair for the people in a situation, not an ideological template.

While most of his awards have come for directing ("Mystic River" alone confirms his skill), there's an extent to which "The Eastwood Factor" seems to be gently reminding us not to overlook his acting, either.

Because he's led a fairly low-profile off-screen life - give or take his messy split from Sondra Locke, which is not mentioned here - Eastwood has never been inflated into an 800-pound cartoon of himself.

Perhaps because of that, it's impressive to sit down and just remember how much he's done. Monday, starting at 6 a.m., TCM will help.

Australian viewers with digital tv or a set top box and have access to ABC2.

Narrated by Eastwood's friend Morgan Freeman and produced by another pal, Richard Schickel, "The Eastwood Factor" glows with unapologetic admiration for its subject, and makes a good case for his exalted position in the film world.

Quote
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) is one of those films everybody feels like they've seen even if they haven't. It's inspired numerous other movies, scenes from it have been parodied or re-created in several films and TV shows, and the theme song even went to #2 on the pop music charts. Proof of the film's power, though, is that it's survived all this activity and still seems fresh every time you see it.

I always get confused with this ratio jargon. If I remember I'll have a look. What should it be KC?

2.35:1 is what it should be. I came across it on a high def channel the other night, and it was "full-screen"! I wondered what was the point of showing it in high def if they're going to mutilate it like that.

Yeah... way too short.  As usual, it seems that Clint wanted to leave asap.  I like that he raised up out of his chair ready to walk out before Stewart was finished.  Typical Clint... he hates doing these promo interviews but knows he has to do them.  Also, was it me or did Clint really look good on this.... he could easily pass for someone in his 60's.

You wouldn't expect this kind of interview to last longer than around five minutes.

By the way, the J. Edgar material starts at around 14 minutes into the show with a brief clip, followed by the interview. It's good stuff! Thanks, Conan.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I just watched some documentary on Clint called Steel Gaze on the Ovation network.  (Evidently this came out on DVD back in 2010).  As some kind of serious documentary on Clint's career and film making, this one is really terrible.

However.... having said that, this doc had tons of footage and interviews that I've never seen before. (most from award ceremonies here and abroad).  I certainly would not recommend buying the DVD but if you have the Ovation channel, this is certainly worth a look.

I thought that this was going to be on TCM on Sky TV but I've looked at the listings for 30th May and it's not scheduled here. It is going to be for sale but I think only as part of the 40 DVD and 20 Blu-ray box sets so I think I'll wait until they release it as a single disc.

Here is a link to the Monday 9 June 2014 Tonight Show. The segment with Mr. Eastwood runs from 19:48 to 29:00. The brief clip of Mr. Eastwood with Johnny Carson starts shortly after Mr. Eastwood sits down.

You can skip the early part of the show, but I wasn't able to skip the commercials and go directly to Mr. Eastwood's segment.

If your cable provider has On Demand, it also available for free. Unfortunately, there is not way to skip past the beginning of the show.

For those that haven't checked this out yet, this video is actually pretty interesting. For reasons that I don't quite understand, Clint was invited to do an interview at some kind of judicial conference in Monterey, and the organizers chose to show "Gran Torino" there. From the interview, it's clear that one of the people there used to be his lawyer, but I don't quite understand what "Gran Torino" has to do with the law, or why Clint was invited to speak because he's not an authority on the law.

Also, what the hell was that bizarre photo free for all that they did here? For those that haven't seen this, they put numbers under people's seats, and anyone who got number 1-10 was invited to come onstage and take a picture with Clint, and was encouraged to pose with a photo from "Gran Torino." It was clear that Clint was pretty uncomfortable with this whole situation, since he didn't even bother to stand up to take these photos until later on when he was specifically asked to do so. I think one lady got like three photos with Clint. I felt a little bad for the people who didn't really get a proper photo with him initially, since it didn't see he was really looking at the camera when he was seated, but I also felt kind of sorry for him to be honest. He tried to be a good sport about it, but it was pretty clear that they didn't tell Clint in advance that they were going to do this! I thought his comments were pretty funny. What did everyone else think about this?

I recorded Steel Gaze last weekend and watched it this morning. It didn't strike me as being particularly great as a documentary--the first bit just briefly jumps around Eastwood's career and then centers more on recent projects. Once it gets into it, it is interesting to see interview footage of Eastwood and various other people, but there are times when the narrator throws in bits of information that has nothing to do with anything that's being focused on in the documentary. It's like they just wanted to try to throw some personal details in about Eastwood's life, but they don't really fit.

So overall, as I said, it's nice to see the interviews of Eastwood and others that have worked with him.

With an antenna I can pick up a TV station called Grit. I'd never heard of it, but they were having a full week of Eastwood movies during this past week. Wednesday night, after having watched The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, I was flipping through and saw Tightrope was on. And then the next night I happened to see True Crime was on, and then I wondered if maybe they were having their own Eastwood challenge or something. ;D And then I saw a commercial for Any Which Way You Can being on last night, and they were calling this nightly scheduling of Eastwood movies A Fistful of Eastwood.

TCM has really gone downhill. Most of the movies on there now aren't even 'Classics'. They recently had a full day of dopey Frankie Avalon beach movies.  If they had any brain cells they would consider showing other aspects to Eastwood's film career such as  'Bird', 'Breezy' or 'Letters From Iwo Jima' for starters.. Even White Hunter Black Heart would be welcome instead of the same familiar turf.

Caught Eastwood on an episode of Highway Patrol on ME TV, the great tv series with Broderick Crawford a few days ago. The episode was called 'Motorcycle A' where Eastwood plays one of two motorcycle guys where some cafe owner hates  motorcyclists- then some accidental death of a Highway Patrol officer happens. This might be Eastwood's first tv showing on film since the show was the first Season in 1955 which would make Eastwood 25..65 years ago!!!... hah...... Obviously the show is dated in many ways, but I liked it...Eastwood looked like a 6'4 James Dean......You can actually see the episodes of this show on ME TV and that episode on Youtube...

Nice, Perry! A slight quibble: actually, Eastwood's first appearance on TV was on a Steve Allen special, [Steve] Allen in Movieland (July 2, 1955). The Highway Patrol episode, "Motorcycle A," aired on April 2, 1956.

https://www.paleycenter.org/collection/item/?q=Allen+in+Movieland&p=1&item=B:34697

You can watch the Steve Allen special on Vimeo (here the date is given as 1954):

The scene that includes Clint starts at 54:45.

Clint is scheduled to be interviewed virtually at the Monterey Jazz Festival on September 26th.

There is a Youtube link, so I think anyone can watch:

https://montereyjazzfestival.org/2020-virtual-monterey-jazz-festival/

Clint had a very short phone interview, which mostly focused on his use of actual footage during the Monterey Jazz festival during the making of "Play Misty for Me," which was filmed in the Carmel/Monterey area. At the end of the interview, he was asked about what was next, and he said something like, "Everything is quiet now. There are a couple of projects I'm fooling with, but not that I'm ready to go with." This is paraphrased.

It doesn't sound like he's looking to retire. It sounded to me like he was waiting for things to return to a place of normalcy with COVID before he would start production on anything.

This isn't specifically on TV but I noticed a few Eastwood movies are on the Peacock streaming service for free with ads. I've noticed at least Play Misty for Me, The Eiger Sanction, and Coogan's Bluff are on it. One thing that's kind of a pain is that you can only search titles instead of searching for people, so I'm not sure if there are others on it.

If you haven't checked out Peacock yet, the ads aren't bad. Sometimes with movies they will do a few minutes before the movie and then not interrupt the film at all. But then other movies might have a few quick interruptions.

where can I watch the whole biography?

To find Reelz, you can try this link which does not work in European area:

https://www.reelz.com/channel-finder/

The documentary is broadcast on Reelz Channel again, on November 6th

At this point, it seems that I cannot watch the whole biography

I hope that you will be able to watch it

I don't want to see even Clint Eastwood talking about golf! ;D

But thanks for posting, honkytonkman. I know we have at least one avid golfer among our membership. 8)

Did anyone actually get to watch this? I don't have the Reelz channel, so I don't have access to it, and I wasn't able to find it online. How was it?

Well, I actually have the Reelz channel, which I just now discovered, or I would have tried to watch this back when this was originally posted. But it's now scheduled to be rebroadcast now ... and it's also not available on the streaming channel, Reelz, which in any case, apparently still comes with a fee attached even for cable TV Reelz customers. :(

I would like to share these three videos from the set of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.
I found them on YouTube.
I do not know if they were posted here before.

Clint Eastwood and George Kennedy were interviewed on the set of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, sometime in 1973.

This last video is silent and we can see Clint and George Kennedy in action.
We can see director Michael Cimino discussing with Clint.

I found that video in which Clint was honoured by a Cesar (French Oscar) in 1998.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was about to be released in France.

Director Jean-Luc Godard gave the Cesar to Clint.

Actor Michael Douglas was in the audience: he was honoured too that night.

I hope that the link below will work:

Yeah I saw that piece of news, that will be interesting to watch. We know Clint has a lifelong empathy and love for animals. Cool that he is still lending his talents to worthwhile causes.
