Title: Go On, Make Your Day!
Post by: LCat on May 05, 2010, 09:04:30 PM
What made/makes your day today? What made you get up today? What were you grateful for today? :)

Good topic for a thread! It's a bit early in the morning to answer it as yet (and the Germans say "You shouldn't praise the day before the evening"). But I'll try to post something later on.

As for yesterday ... that was one beautiful day of weather. Around 70°, blue skies and sunshine all the way. A perfect May day, and the Yankees won.

This morning I was grateful not to be suffering too much from last nights alcohol intake..  >:D

Sun shone all day, London looked beautiful, I got paid.. lots to be thankful for   ;)

I had a job interview this morning--whatever the outcome, it's always nice to get those.

Today I am grateful for so many things: The sky is gloriously blue, and I don't see any clouds; I got my cell phone charged up at an office--It was down to no power, and I had to go out of the house that way, heaven forbid; I can go to the art studio tomorrow--I haven't been able to go in about 3 weeks; I got the ink painting done at home for my cousin and his wife's wedding gift, and I found the perfect frame; I re-connected with email buddies on the phone; I am still in remission after 4 years of being really sick (I don't have cancer, so don't worry--It's just something I've had all of my life); I'm planning to go to the beach AGAIN--I was there last week when it hit 88ºF here in THE CITY... 8)

LCat, health is always something to be grateful for and thankful for. I'm glad to hear you're doing well.

As for me ... It was a beautiful day again and not too warm. And the Yankees beat the Red Sox! 8)

I spent today putting things back in their proper places after all our alterations.  There are still a lot of things to do but we are getting there.  It is a nice feeling to see everything taking shape as I 'saw' it in my mind when we planned these changes.

The weather is not nice, cold and wet.  Hope it will be better tomorrow.

As KC said it is good to hear you are well LCat.

I woke up at 9:30am and made everyone breakfast. We has bacon, eggs & cheese and french toast.  The hot coffee was real nice as well.  :)

LCat , I am glad you are doing well.

Thank Y'all, for your well-wishes.

Today I'm grateful that I made it to art studio. I'm also grateful for the line of traffic that prevented me from crossing the street: If I had had no traffic, I would have been seriously injured by a glass window improperly installed that came crashing down onto the ground in shards, the borders of that shard storm just two feet from me as I was approaching. Glass was everywhere. Talk about "excitement"! Usually life is fairly dull here, as I prefer it.

Ouch! I hope nobody else was hurt, either! :o

It was stuffy in my apartment today, but it was so windy I could save on air conditioning ... just opened two windows. I didn't even need the ceiling fan.

And the Yankees beat the Red Sox, again. 8)

It was a miracle that no one was hurt--the workmen were walking away at the very second, and a little boy who was sitting in the door way was stunned, but unharmed; he suddenly upped and ran away.

It's nearly 3:30AM and it's still very windy. The super didn't turn on the heat tonight, so I won't be letting any air in.

I take it you like any team but the Yankees? ( >:D) (Let's go Mets!)

Gee that was a lucky day for you and everyone in the street Lcat.

We finished putting up the shelves above my desk and I have all of Clint's movies and the interviews etc on DVD in alphabetical order AT LAST!!!!! 8)

Now I am going to get my new glasses.  Third time lucky.  They made them to the wrong prescription first time then got the varifocal distance at the wrong height.  To say sorry they elected to give me designer frames that cost more than the original glasses and correct the lens errors.   Even after all that I still wont go to them again.  >:(

Today I'm grateful that I was able to spend some time with my mother on Mother's Day. I know there'll be a time when this day will be painful when she is no longer here, so every year until then, today is special to me.

I hear you,  Schofield Kid--My mom died 17 years ago, and I still miss her.

Today I am grateful that I have pleasant memories of my mother--She loved to go to the casinos in Atlantic City. She was a champion marathon swimmer who swam around Absecon Bay in Atlantic City.

I've avoided this thread because I'm definitely not a morning person. Even if I know there are good things waiting for me, I'm very lazy to wake up :-\

And today is very special because there is a campaign going on here to take the H1N1 vaccine. It's separated by age and today is my day :P

I went to a coffee shop tonight and played a short acoustic set. I had a blast. It was real nice to play some of my original songs for folks. It has been over a year since I have done anything like that and I will be there next Monday.

Neat Richard Earl.   Great that you have another gig on Monday  :)

I had to go to work at 7 am to take delivery of fuel and then come home and get ready to go to work for my shift this afternoon at 12.  Not a very happy bunny however I will be on payday.   >:D    I was not expecting to have to go to work this morning.  There was a frost so I had to find the defroster spray.  Just like a winters morning.   I don't plan on doing many more days like this.    Otherwise it is a great day now, there is sun shine but it is still quite cold.

I'm also happy for the lovely scarves I got on sale. (I also found out that the closeouts place I go to has the best deals anywhere, even better than a store I formerly thought was the best.)

It was 28-30 degrees yesterday or today in Paris and was very hot likes midsummer !   :o

And what!!   Avenue Champs-Elysées became suddenly to a forest and a field for two days !!  :o  ::)  :D   Shut out all the cars, carrying trees and vegetables, domestic animals from each French country.  (There became also the wheat field 20 years ago!  8) )
The avenue was filled up with people more than 800,000 for one day !!   :o
I participated in a meeting titled " Green Trip" and " Natural Parc " held in  Restaurant Fouquet's (where Clint awarded " Special Prize of Cannes " on February 25, last year. I who did not know that watched " Gran Torino " on the first release day in an opposite theater of Fouquet's !!  :( )

I just got home from spending the weekend helping my parents celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.  People came from all over the country for the occasion, and many friends from overseas called or sent flowers and cards.  My husband and I did up a slideshow for people to watch that tried to give a taste of what the last 50 years has contained.  What fun!

It made my day to be able to contribute to the happiness of the occasion.  I am in awe as I consider how many people's lives have been touched by my parents in 50 years.  Friends from college, my father's students, the 40 or so high school and college students that have lived with them over the years, strangers off the street who needed a place to stay . . .  I hope I can have had such a positive effect on so many in my lifetime.

It is wonderful to be with your folks on their Golden Wedding Day.   I am sure you did enjoy every minute of it Elizabeth77.  They too would have enjoyed it, a day to remember.    I, too, was lucky enough to do much the same thing for my folks.  I made them a "This Is Your Life" golden book as I didn't have any other way of showing their lives together.  They were married for 59 and a half years.  Not so many people who marry nowadays will make even 10 years together and it is a shame.

You are right 2M.  A friend of mine went for a job interview and heard nothing so she applied for a few more.  She took another one and although it was OK it wasn't what she really wanted, then about 2 months later a letter came form the first place offering her the position.  She wrote them a rather curt letter and asked why they took so long.  She refused the job by the way.

The last job that I interviewed for and didn't get (which has been a while back--I really haven't applied to much lately), I actually did get an email from them letting me know, which was nice. For this job, I'd gotten the impression that they would let me know one way or another but then they didn't.

But it's cool though (this is, after all, a happy thread! ;)). I'm actually going to look into some options of going back to school... again. :D I want to apply to some programs by the end of this year/early next and see what happens.

I never did hear back about the interview, meaning I didn't get it (it would have been nice to have been contacted anyhow).

That happened to me so much way back when, when I left school and was going for interviews that it annoyed the you know what out of me when they said they would call the following day to let me know. So here I am waiting all day at home for a call that never comes when I could be out looking for other options.

Always had the feeling if I didn't stay home and wait for the call and they did ring and I wasn't there to answer they wouldn't hire me.

And this was before cell phones so I didn't have much choice. :(

What made my day is that the disaster of the morning ended with no lasting harm done.  :)

We are renting a century old, two-story house in a small town in northern Indiana.  I don't think plumbing or electricity were introduced before the 1950's.  Nothing has been updated downstairs since then.  More recently, the house was divided into two apartments, upstairs and downstairs.  Hence, there is a kitchen sink upstairs!!  This morning a leak suddenly appeared under this sink.  In about two minutes I had managed to get the valve shut off, but water was all over the upstairs floor and dripping down onto the lower part of the stairway.  There isn't one bit of the house that is level, so that water ran everywhere and appeared in unusual places on the lower level.  By the time I got the water mostly contained upstairs, there was water running across my bedroom floor downstairs.  How wonderful that we don't have carpets.

Everything is now cleared up and mostly dried out.  There is still a bucket at the end of my bed to catch the seemingly endless drops that come through one tiny little hole in the middle of the ceiling.  Why do people put nails in ceilings, then not bother to patch the holes when they pull them out later?  (Maybe that question should go in the Why! thread.)  I'm so thankful this all happened before I left home for several hours.   :)

But it was the worst memorial day!  >:( It became the heavy storm from morning, and the road seemed to have become the brook.  :o Such the terrible weather was the first time for this memorial day, never seen before!! Because of that strong rain, I should have canceled the ballet of Jiri KYLIAN's choreography ‘ KAGUYAHIME’ which I was going to watch at the Opera Bastille ! :(
I am so sorry for Lin whom seeing the sights of Paris. I hope that she will enjoyed a commemorative fireworks display for Eiffel Tower's 120 years launched in a rainy interval at night ! :)

Yesterday I've been in (Gran) Torino for a Charlotte Gainsbourg concert! :D
I've been right under the stage, showing Charlotte a notebook with lovely lines. :-*

Not so much a Make my Day but make my Week.

I spent a wonderful week in Paris with Sylvie.  On the 14th we met up with AB at the Louvre.  The weather was OK just one little shower of rain.  Nothing heavy when we were outside.  Saw some of the parade from the windows of the Louvre so we didn't get wet.   The fireworks in the evening near the Eiffle tower were fabulous as were the ones in Disneyland.   I might stop smiling in a few weeks.  ;D   I have some fantastic memories.  Gary and Cyrille walking along together, Sylvie and me looking in the shops and riding on the Space Mountain with Cyrille.  Not Gary's cup of tea although he did ride Thunder Mountain three times.   Sharing breakfast with good friends.  Too many great moments to post here.   :)

When a person is suspicious, or even paranoid, no matter what, they will think you are against them. Well, the chips are in the air and ready to fall. I'm going to do my best to move out of the way, but even if I can't, I can clean myself up later.

In days long past, I would have tried to reason with a person who doesn't want to be reasoned with, and I would have been sorely disappointed and distressed.

Que sera, sera (I can't find the proper accent marks, so forgive me.)

I am grateful that I can let go, and that I won't be watching those night time vampire shows on WPIX again, even though they were good, but not good for sleeping peacefully.

It looks like I'm going to get to work part-time with the place I interviewed with back in May. The lady I spoke with today was one of the people who interviewed me at that time, and she told me they all liked me but went with people who were already working there for the follow-up interviews. I pretty well have the job but just need to get okayed by the dean (who I'm trying to set up an appointment with).

I've been ridding myself of things I no longer need or use. The feeling is great to be done with STUFF, some from 1999! (I do despise shredding, though...)

I've gotten rid of bags of clothing, old bills, memos, paper in general, menus, old shoes, "keepsakes" (or dust-sakes, for Pete's  sake!), ETC.

I'm so glad I don't have magazine or newspaper subscriptions anymore.

I should throw something else out right now!

My niece, who's sixteen, has been visiting me for the past ten days.  We've been having lots of fun, even though I had to work almost every day.  Movies, books, mini golf and the water park have all been squeezed in.  We even managed a little time for violin and piano.  Today we took her to meet up with her parents and had lunch with her dad's family.   They've been my unrelated family since I was seven.  Then we dropped in to visit my best friend's parents and younger sister.  Finally, we arrived home to have the door opened by my parents, who had dropped in to visit for a couple of hours.  It was a great way to start celebrating our twelfth wedding anniversary.  All of the people we visited today were involved with our wedding.  It's been a very special day!  :)

I was walking on 77th, on my way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, crocheting. (Yes, I was walking and crocheting--I can't put it down!) An elderly woman that I assume was well-to-do stopped me to see the lace that I am making. She looked at it and held it for a relatively long time, admiring my work and started talking about some of the things she had made. I told her that I'm making a wedding dress. (I think she thought that I'm getting married--I'm not.) It's the start of my second wedding dress. She clasped my hand and really made my day.

I love friendly people, especially here in NYC.

Dear Friends,

You all know I haven't been myself for a while and while I've tried to carry on as nothing was too wrong and everything would be OK, it was obvious it wasn't. I've even had a couple of breaks from the board this year, but I was only really hiding from the fact that I needed some help. I'm now getting that help and I know it won't happen overnight but I do already feel a whole lot better already.

What this post is, is really just to apologise for any comments I've made in the past couple of months in some threads where I've sounded so morbid and depressed about the state of the world and things like that. I've re read some of the stuff this past week and it really was some depressing stuff.

I've always said that coming here onto the board was an escape from all the crap in my life, but this year I started bringing those problems onto the board. Not the actual problems but my state of mind at the time, so instead of getting on here and having some laughs and enjoying myself like I always had, everything got blurred and the board suffered for it.

I just want to thank you all for sticking by me. The ones who have PM'd me with their concern and words of advice and help I can't thank you enough and what it means to me. It really touched my heart that you took the time just for me.

So thank you my dear friends, from the bottom of my heart. You're all the best and you always make my day.  :)

I had been dreading attending a meeting Thursday: an idol of mine has fallen, to put it metaphorically, and he must be ousted. How could someone who has done so many wonderful things for decades suddenly start singlehandedly tearing down all the good things he made into a great non-profit organization? I never would have dreamed it would come to this.

To me this is as sad as the novel The Once and Future King.

However, I made it through the meeting, and I'm not as stressed out as I was before--Anticipation is worse than realization! Though distasteful, I will be able to handle the ousting, too.

Life is funny sometimes and the way things happen. I'm sure there is a reason for the way things happen but I still shake my head sometimes and today was no exception.

A colleague at work has inoperable cancer, so this week there has been fund raisers going on at work to help him and his family out. I bought a raffle ticket for $20. It got you a number in the powerball draw last night. If your number match the powerball, you won $450.00 while the other $450.00 raised would go to the family.

I've been feeling really good these past few weeks and I said to myself when I purchased the ticket that if I'd won, the money would go straight into the fundraising tin. It's strange, but I had a feeling that I would win it. I don't know why, I mean the odds were 45 to 1 of me winning but I just knew I would.

I got to work this morning and someone mentions the powerball number and lo and behold it's mine. As soon as the money was handed to me, it went straight into the tin.

Some thought I was mad, while others admired me for it.

I don't know, to me, it just seemed the right thing to do.

Title: Re: Go On, Make Your Day!
Post by: LCat on October 18, 2010, 06:46:55 PM
Thanks for asking, Two Mules.

There is a train line that parallels a bus route; the entire train line was shut down in both directions, forcing the train riders to seek an alternate route; the train stop is at the first bus stop, so the buses were packed with train riders who wanted to get to the other end of the bus route so that they could pick up an alternate train further down the bus route. Since the train riders packed the bus and wanted to go to the end of the line or nearly there, the buses were not making any normal stops between the second and last bus stops.

When the problem was finally resolved nearly 2 hours later, the lines of train riders went back to the train, thereby permitting the buses to come through normally once more.

Did I state that clearly? I hope so. If not, let me know.

I got all very expensive duck, turkey sausage, stew beef, concord grape jelly, herdsman cheese, greens, apples, pumpkin squash, zucchini, string beans, etc. It's more expensive than the supermarkets, but the food tastes so good that it's worth it.

I would tell you the town, KC, but I feel uncomfortable on the Internet. However, I will say I've gone to 3 different boroughs and I think the best one is at Union Square.

Oh, that's OK! I wouldn't leave the city anyway. I love the Greenmarket at Union Square ... I go there most Saturdays.

Since it was Sunday, I thought you might have gone to the one behind the Natural History Museum, but that one's definitely not worth a two-hour trip from anywhere!

Three years ago, I changed jobs, and pretty much from the first day I realized I'd made a HUGE mistake.   Now it seems things have turned around and I've gotten a promotion (it's really a semi-promotion, but it's on the right track), and I'm quite happy about it.  There were many times when I felt I'd really screwed myself with possibly one of the worse mistakes I'd ever made, and now it might actually in the end work out for the best.  Wow, you just never know how things'll turn out.

That's great Doug.  :)  Hang in there for another three years and you could be in the PERFECT job for you.  I think you did well sticking to a job you felt so wrong for that length of time.

Thanks everybody.  For the record it was the same job, just a different company.  Only I was on the verge of a promotion at the old job, but didn't really fully realize how close I was, and I left and then basically had to start over.  Only to find the money wasn't what I'd expected and I had at that time practically zero chance of the same type of promotion.  Then the economy nosedived, and I was stuck.  But we have a new owner, and over the last six months they've instituted the same general promote-from-within framework and emphasis that the old job had.  And thankfully I now seem to be back on track.

Wednesday I start training.  But man, tonight sucked.  I should have signed the early out form (which I sometimes do on Sunday nights) and gone home early and saved myself one giant headache.  There's these two female employees that hate each other, and one of them wanted to screw over the other for some past grief (these two girls actually went at each other in a wild free-for-all in the employees' lounge a few months ago), but I didn't want to be a part of it.  But then the situation got out of hand, and I ended up looking bad, and I know my boss (who is hardly the most people-oriented boss on the planet to begin with) doesn't want to hear about such petty crap.

Aighhh!

After the crappiest of week's last week. Spending all this time on the board this weekend has been a real hoot. I mean nothing got done around here and the place is a mess, but what the hell. I feel 100 times better than I did four days ago. Well two days actually when I stopped drinking.

To everyone here, thanks for putting up with my nonsense. Special thanks to my little Aussie brother SC. You've been great and not only made my day, but my weekend.

Cheers everyone. 8)

Well have you got a few hours??   ;)

I will be able to spend time on making costumes and taking care of the wardrobe for the Richomond Amateur Dramatic Society,  doing lots of crafts, writing and catching up on my reading.  I can spend more time with Meg and she and I can go for really long walks every day. A few times over the last few weeks I've dropped my mobile phone at work. I keep it in my shirt pocket but whenever I bent down the stupid thing would slide out. I used to have in my pants pocket but with all the noise at work, I could never hear it ring or the message tone.

I've been looking for a phone pouch that clips on to your pants belt but they were all some ridiculous price. Today I went into one of those bargain shops that are full of nick knacks and found this pouch for $2.00. And the phone fits perfectly and it just clips on to my pants belt.

$2.00 how good is that?

That made my day. :)

I was very busy last 3 weeks.
I made the Mediterranean Cruise from Nice - Savone ( Italy) - Naples - Messine ( Sicily) - Alexandria (Egypt) - Limassol (Cyprus) - Marmaris (Turkey) - Santorin ( Greece) - Olympia (Greece) - Savone - Nice.      It was fantastic cruise !!  8)   I already made cruise to Égéen Sea thus it was the second time which we visited to Santorin.  O0

On this Wednesday, after having listened to the concert of Harp and Shakuhachi ( the Japanese traditional instrument) at the Japanese Cultural Center where is next to Eiffel Tower and Australian Embassy, we went to eat Sushi to the authentic Japanese restaurant where is not far from Trocadero. We go there when we are in this district.  Then this day there our accustomed table was occupied.  I saw a couple whom spoken in English but I did not pay very attention of them and I noticed only their lovely white Jack Russell !!  :D  Then.......they ended a meal before us. A man went to the restroom before leaving the restaurant. When I watched the profile of the man, I hardly believed my eyes for an instant!! :o :o :o    Is not he Donald Sutherland ??   My companion MR.Higashimori never noticed it!  ???   I said. OK, I go to ask his wife waiting outside.   ;)
I asked her that " I'm sorry and it's rude but, someone said that your husband resemble Sutherland so far ? " .......

She answered. " Yes, He Is !! "  :D   And she and I roared with laughter!!! :D
I opened both hands when he went out and met him. And we embraced each other!!  ::) I have asked to him " why are you here? " unintentionally.  :-[
( Actually there is this japanese restaurant in the by street but there is many movie star of the Japanese dish fan.  Because this ordinary japanese restaurant is authentic and only one which running in this area since 25 years;  Carol Bouquet, Gerard Depardieu and Jane Birkin etc..., However, I heard not about Sutherland from the manager of this restaurant.)
Donald Sutherland said " I live here!  I love this restaurant!  This is very good!! "   O0
"I love "Kelly's Heroes "! I watched "Space Cowboy" many times!" I said. ;) He left towards their home saying ' Thank you!'.  His wife saying bye bye... They look very opened and very nice ! :D 8)

Wow!! I got him!!  :D

A manager said that they sometimes came to this restaurant, they are a good client and he added that a wife of Sutherland is an actress, also !  I thought that I am really sorry to her later.  She is a good Canadian actress Francine Racette !  I watched some movies which she appeared........ but I did not recognize..... :-[

Then I dream now that by chance a more wonderful encounter may come...! ! !  ;)

This morning I had a pleasant surprise from a very unexpected source.  In recent weeks, the various shirt suppliers I deal with have been sending me letters and emails informing me of major price increases as of November 1.  In some cases, this is the third increase since the first of the year.  I have been wondering what to do because now is not a good time in increase my prices.  Anyway, this morning the supplier of my most expensive products called and wanted to know if I wanted to order anything more.  After explaining that I can't buy too much because of the price increase, the lady from the supplier said she'd ask her boss if he'd give us one more shipment at the old price.  She came back totally amazed.  Her boss said my husband and I had done him a favor and that the price increase wouldn't affect us.  It's the best news we've had in weeks.   :) :)

Well my golf game returned to it's usual crappy 2010 form, but the best news of the day was seeing my mate return to the course after 4 months with his cancer scare and losing the sight in his eye. It was so great seeing him out there playing and really hitting the ball just as good as he ever did. The little rascal may have even beaten me on points today.

I think in terms of actually getting out there again, he beat everyone today. No matter what he scored. :)

That is so thoughtful of you not to put the tree up before your son's birthday. My birthday is also in December--We get swept under the tree carpet because of Christmas. The only person I know who has it worse is a guy who was born on New Year's Eve/Day--So many people are too wiped out to celebrate.

Just before I left yesterday the Aussie Post delivery lad showed up with a parcel for me and I thought this was odd as I wasn't expecting any package.

It was that Katharine Hepburn book about the making of The African Queen which Amazon emailed me earlier in the week saying I wouldn't get until sometime in January.

With the Aussie dollar almost a match for the American, it's a good time to purchase things from over there. I still laugh though. It cost $13 all up. $3 for the book, $10 for the postage. :D

Getting the book so quick though, certainly made my day. :)

I've been feeling rather down lately because the lousy weather has prevented us from working much this month.  Tonight was the last chance for us this year, and it got very cold so we shut down early again.  However, it was a very successful night.  :)

Looking back over the year, it has been very challenging at times, but the end result has been positive.  Since I design and paint every shirt that I sell, I put a lot of creative and emotional energy into this business.  Most people I come in contact with have no idea what effect their comments have on me.  They're commenting on the way I choose to spend my life.  Occasionally they make me wonder if I made the right choice seven years ago when I chose to work with my husband in a family business where he could be home, instead of his working in some other country for months at a time while his kids grow up.  Tonight gave me enough encouragement to carry on for a while longer.  :)

Don't you just love it when things go to plan so smoothly? :)

I wanted to get the books True Grit and To Kill A Mockingbird from the library today. I checked their website first to see if they have them and they did. And they were showing they are available.

I drive down there, get a car parking spot not too far from library, I walk in, thinking even though they're here, they probably won't be where they should be and I'll have to search for them and finish up walking out with nothing. But straight to the large print section for True Grit. Bang, got it. Over to the paperbacks and under L, Bang, got that one too.

Walk up to the counter, don't have to wait at all, get my card and books scanned, a nice quick chat very a very lovely woman librarian and I'm out the door in under three minutes.

That made my day. :)

I have just got an amazing Ayrton Senna DVD in the post from Brazil. Thank You, Aline. :)

Ayrton Senna The Right To Win is a fantastic memorial to Senna.

The 2-dics DVD includes:
The Right To Win (documentary - 52 mins)
The Lifestyle of Ayrton Senna in Brazil (documentary - 44 mins)
Racing Is In My Blood (documentary - 52 mins)
The Ayrton Senna Foundation (15 mins)
Senna's First F1 Tests (7 mins)
Senna's Honda NSX Test (5 mins)
Stats
Picture gallery

There is also a full colour booklet with some amazing racing pictures. :)

I love the behind the scenes footage of Senna at home on his ranch in Brazil, playing with boats, karts etc, plus the work of the Ayrton Senna foundation rehabilitating children in Brazil. It's very emotional at times especially the interviews with Ayrton's sister and pictures of Imola, the circuit where senna sadly lost his life in 1994.

Senna is still worshipped in Brazil, so this is very special coming from my Brazilian friend, Aline. :)

Thank you so much Aline, for making my day O0   You are a true friend. :)

Thank you, SK and Aline. That's such a very tragic story--All of those drivers dying...None of them could have been very old. I think I wouldn't have driven if I were Senna, but I guess there's no escaping fate...

Today I am grateful, first of all that I made it through the day. I really didn't think I could do so--I was up all night and quite anxious, so all of today just dragged. However, I had to do a presentation--I had to tell a story for a storytelling group this evening. I was the first storyteller--This was all videotaped. I was glad to get this over with--It's hard for me to believe that I used to be a teacher and loved being in front of the class. I didn't love being in front of this audience and I just ignored the camera. I'd been too nervous for two weeks--I had too much time to rehash how I'd tell the story. I enjoyed listening to the other stories, as if I had never heard them before...(We had all been practicing in the same room, so we each knew what the other stories were about, but each time the presentation is slightly different, of course. There was food and drink after the presentations. The audience received us all very warmly.

Anyway, I did well and got a membership card to teach other people how to tell stories. The card entitles me to do a number of things...I have to read the long list.

I'm also grateful to know nice people and to have a place to come where nice people are, like here!

Thank you all.

Excellent work LCat.

It is brilliant that you can now teach other people to tell stories.   That ability is rare these days because of so much TV and computer generated books and games.

In our group we have one or two story tellers and when we are around the fire at camps they tell us amazing stories from way back.   If you ever get over to the UK there'd be a chance for us to hear you too.

Congratulations on getting up there and doing it.

This is a picture of one of the story tellers I took at Dovedale camp.

Thank you, Southern Cat and Lin.

I had no idea that storytelling would be so alive all over the world, I suppose. Thanks, Lin, for the photo and the invitation! I'm still not that comfortable telling stories, but I'm working on it and it's much easier than I thought it was...

I just went outside to see Gary off around 5.00am.   The sound of the birds singing, the sky a beautiful deep blue and the waning moon over head.   That sure has made my day.   It is so peaceful here this morning.  There seems to be no traffic because it is a holiday.   I am going to take my second cup of coffee outside in the garden and just sit there until the sky lightens.

For the last year, my morality was often very low.  Lost the dearest friend, several friends by the cancer and with problems unexpected and more, misfortunes which attacked Japan recently.... :'(

Fortunately, the birth of the baby of my son gave me the big enjoyment.  :)
We took the opportunity of last Easter's holidays to go to south-west of France, 8 heures of road from Paris to meet a newborn baby!  :)
It made me really big pleasure!  The baby gives me the hope !  :)

I got up late because I went to bed late. I didn't make the spaghetti with tofu sauce I had planned. I didn't organize the pile of mail. I didn't brush the cats. I had to stay home (which I didn't want to do) in order to wait for a delivery that I almost missed because I dozed off on the couch. But I did make it through the day, and for that I'm happy. Yea!

For the last month or so I have been rather stressed by the knowledge that the time for my family's annual northern migration was coming fast, but we couldn't find a house to live in for the summer.  My parents visited the area three times trying to find a house for us, and my husband joined them on one house hunting expedition.  Nothing!!  We could not find a place to rent for less than a year or in an affordable price range.  I've don't my best not to worry, but this week it has been so hard not to.  This evening I got a call from my parents to tell me that we now have a house, or at least will have as of the 11th (the day we arrive).  They are buying a small house about 10 miles from our shop and we can rent from them.  That also means we can leave things in the house over the winter.  I've been inclined to be a little grumpy because I knew I would have absolutely no say about what the house I live in will be like, but tonight I'm just filled with gratitude.  It's like I've been in suspended animation, but now I can move forward again.  :)

For the past 4 years, I've had really dry hands with cracks appearing in my fingers. When I use pure alcohol to clean fibre optic cable, it's very painful when it get in one of the cracks. I've tried everything as you could imagine to alleviate the problem. Nothing has worked till now.

It has seemed to clear up in the last couple of months. Less stress = better health.  :)

Back when I made the above post, I was blissfully ignorant of what the next six weeks would bring.  To make a long and boring story short, we finally moved into our new summer home on Sunday.  For five of those weeks my husband and I lived in a hotel room close to work, while our boys stayed with my parents and had the time of their lives.

Tonight I am so happy to be in my own house with my family all together.  We're not all settled in, but we're getting there.  :)

I was at Thornborough Henge this morning for the Summer Solstice at 4.15am.  The sunrise was due at 4.31am.  It was raining and very misty.   The first time I have ever been to a Solstice when it rained.

There was only one other person there.  They stood on the far side of the Henge and I stood on the mound.  They had a brolly, I had a cloak with a hood.   Meg and I waited until the sunrise time watching for a lightening in the sky.  It never did lighten and the mist became heavier.   Thornborough Henge is in the middle of nowhere so it was very lonely there with just the history and a person about 150 meters away.  Don't know if it was a man or a woman.  They wore jeans and a jacket and carried a dark brolly.

On the way home I had the most amazing experience...  Standing in the middle of the road around 5.15am were two deer.  They just stood and looked at me.  Meg was looking out of the side window of the car and started to bark.  Then I saw what she was barking at, a badger waddled across the road between my car and the deer.   The deer looked like two school crossing wardens guiding a child over the road.  As he reached the hedgerow the deer took off and bounced over the cornfield and everything returned to normal.  There was no time to get my camera but somehow I don't think it was a scene I was meant to share.

The lanes around Thornborough are so quiet and peaceful, with the mist and the rain dripping from the trees it was an ethereal moment in time.  It has set me up for the day.

I have probably posted this picture before. Thornborough Henge, the largest in the UK and possibly Europe.   I was standing on the mound in the central henge.   The farthest one is covered in tree,

I think it's the bots that do all that printing of various obscure topics. That is, they don't really print them, of course, but the "Print" format gives you a whole topic on a single page. Must be good for the bots to see it all at once.

Thank you for posting that photo Lin, it's beautiful. And I loved your story about the deer. Hope you had a happy Solstice!  :)

I'm very happy hearing this, LCat. As for me, I caught a faringitis and fever and this not making my day at all. :(

Getting a bit off topic but which picture, you mean my avatar? Because if it is, there's no mistery, that's a wig ;D

Yes, your avatar--The way you have your hand in front of your face is quite intriguing. I thought you had dyed your hair--I never would have guessed a wig. You're quite daring, and I wouldn't be able to guess in a million years what your next avatars will be...

The last couple of years most of you know I've been up and down more times than I care to remember. Last year sucked and I had hoped this year would be a whole lot better but the first six months sucked worst than last year. A couple of weeks ago I decided to try and forget all my hassles and no matter what happens just take it on the chin and smile through the pain.

Of course then I got my hand in plaster and trying to smile through that lasted all of five minutes. Last weekend I didn't think I could get any lower and trying to drown your sorrows never helps. Since I got that cast off on Monday and have been stuck at home, I've had plenty of time to relax and look back on the last few months and even though it's been a tough year so far, it could've been a whole lot worse. I've been so lucky to have so many friends that care. Not just here but you guys on the board too.

I received a beautiful card from Elizabeth77 today in the mail and it again made me realise how lucky I am. Actually not just me, but all the regulars here. I know I've said this in the past but we're like a family here. We have our disagreements but the friendships we've made with people on the other side of the world it just makes me sit back and smile and think, things aren't all that bad.

So thank you E77. This week is the start of a new beginning. I've been smiling all week but it was a lot bigger when I opened the mail today.  O0

I had a miserable year last year and about a third of this year, too. I didn't think I could make it through, especially since I was sworn to secrecy or be sued for breaching a contract. I couldn't tell a soul then or now--I was bursting at the seams.

I just told myself if I can get through this, I can get through anything, and I'll feel proud of myself. Well, I feel proud of myself.

I hope the time ahead of all of us is better than it was...

Best wishes.

LCat

PS: I could have gone to the beach today--That would have made my day bright, but I stayed home and got some much needed rest, which is making my tomorrow a great day!

I had a great week.   On Tuesday I received two parcels.  I opened them and they were full of craft stuff.  I hadn't ordered any of it so I was looking for something to tell me where to return it when I found a little card.

Congratulations you were entered in to a prize draw after you nominated a shop/wool/design and exhibition in the Let's Knit 2011 Awards.  This is your prize including a year long subscription to the Let's Knit magazine.   With the magazine, knitting books, wool, sewing basket and all the other stuff my prize was well over £100.  That sure did make my day.  :)    You often vote for things and are told you will be entered into a prize draw but you never hear of anyone winning.

(http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/5061/newpics049.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/151/newpics049.jpg/)

These are the goodies I won!   Not the green bag, that is just what I am knitting now.

It will be the stuff they had on their stand at the knitting/craft exhibition.   At least some of it, as there were three winners.  I believe I got first prize, so that included the magazine subscription.

Somehow I can't see her wearing a doggy jumper.   ;D ;D   She was bad enough when we had to put a T shirt on her to stop her biting her stitches after surgery.   I have enough wool to knit a whole dog.  ;D ;D

I just had the best weekend. Well it wasn't that great but I just got everything done that I needed to do on Saturday morning, relaxed Saturday afternoon, played golf Sunday, then went to the movies today. It probably won't mean much to most of you but that type of weekend hasn't happened for me lately.

I'm just on top of the world. (Damn, I just got a mental picture of Jimmy Cagney in White Heat when he says that at the end.) :D

Teresina does look a very nice place.   It has a lot of green areas.  That is what I like I am not too fond of cities where there are no parks.  The picture of the river lit up at night looks a lovely place to walk.

Next year 160, a bigger celebration.  :)

Yes, Lin, Teresina is very green, some people even call it "the green city". It's located between two rivers (Poty and Parnaíba) and there is a park where you can see the meeting of waters.

Next year 160, a bigger celebration.  :)

I hope so, Lin :)

I had a great time today at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. I saw the play "Crazy For You (http://openairtheatre.org/production/crazyforyou)", the cast is great, so are the songs and the customs and the set. The second act needs a little bit of rewriting but it's a play that I fully recommend... and I hope to see it again if it opens at the Novello Theatre.

It made my day  O0 O0 O0 O0

Of course when Clint was in town I make an exception and coped with the traffic, noise and 2million people.   ;D  It is nice when members meet up. I won an art contest and am quite excited by the recognition ceremony coming up on Wednesday. The only problem is that I have to dress "business casual". I never wear a suit, if I don't have to. As much as I love the heat and humidity of summer, I don't relish sweating to death in a 3 piece suit--I don't even know if it still fits--I might be bursting at the seams! ;D

Gee, maybe I should have put half of this post here, and the other half in the kick up a stink...

Yesterday I went to the beach and had a fabulous day. It's only the 3rd time I've made it to the beach this summer. :(  But I went out to dinner with a bunch of people who belong to a common Internet group that I belong to and had a great time.

I'm so glad things are going kind of smoothly...Now, If only I could get my kitten to stop scratching and biting me! (This could go in Cats and Dogs...)

(I'm all over the place tonight. Excuse me!)

On the 5th of December, I'll be in Paris for 3 totally different but great exhibitions, especially the first one to me : in the morning, in Le grand Palais, the famous American painter Edward Hopper retrospective.

In the afternoon, in Les Arts Décoratifs museum :

Van Cleef and Arpels, the Art of Luxury Jewellery

And in the same place :

Star Wars Toys

A very eclectic tour ! But very interesting one :)
But sure I will take the train back home, late at night,  eyes, mind and soul full of beautiful things  : "food for Happiness", no doubt !

Yes, a beautiful day ! :)

And I've just heard on the radio that there is a fabulous exhibition in Le Louvre Museum, paintings, drawings of Raphaël ... but the day will be too short ... so many great things to see when you are in Paris ! Just like in a lot of big cities in fact ...
Retrospectives are often very interesting because you can admire many pieces of Art that belong to private collectionners, sometimes showed only a few times ... I can remember how great it was to see some very rare Monet paintings in Paris 2 years ago, and fantastic drawings by Keith Haring in Lyon 4 years ago  :).

It's bizarre how things happen sometimes. Yesterday I was in a store and was looking through their book department and I thought to myself that I've never seen any C J Box books in this store or any of their other stores around town. If I did and they were $10 or less, I would get them. As I would like to read the books again sometime.

Today I went into the store but one in a different suburb and was looking at the books and came across eight C J Box books for $10 each! I rang my friend and said if she sees any of the ones I couldn't get to grab them for me. She rings back to say she is in her local store right then and grabbed one of the ones I couldn't get.

9 of the 12 books in one hit. That made my day. 8)

My British friend invited me to lunch at the "Oxford and Cambridge Club" (he is of Oxford).
I thought so far called the circles of British club was limited to British gentleman!  ;)
Near St. James Palace in Pall Mall, the Club was in the big old buildings and majestic. The building was decorated with many historical paintings, furniture, decorative items, etc. ... very interesting, like a museum!   My friend gave me a tour of the Club. There were several beautiful rooms and bars that club members are free to use and has a beautiful and big library and read in a quiet room.
The dinning room was like a gastronomic restaurant and was very rich variety of menu!
The service was also very good!  I had a very nice experience.  8)
It was only a pity that the interior of the Club is forbidden to photograph!

Back on May 17, 2014 my wife and I had the pleasure of meeting KC in NYC. We got a tour of the New York Public Library and after lunch we went to Yankees Stadium to watch the Yankees play the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Yankees didn't let us down by winning 7-1. Including 4 or 5 home runs in one game!

Just a great day all round.

I'm back!!  ;D ;D  I hadn't realized how long it's been since I visited the CEWB.  I am so excited to be back on the road to a normal and busy life.  I finished my last chemotherapy treatment on February 25.  It took me a week for the significance to really sink in.  Now that I'm beginning to feel better, the bounce is coming back and I'm starting to take an interest in things again.  I've been living from one day to the next for six months and it's time to move on.  Of course, I'm not going anywhere very fast, but every day is an improvement over the last.  I'm not bald anymore.  There is dark baby fuzz all over my head.  I used to be blonde, so we'll see what happens.  The only thing that will keep me quiet for a while longer is my vision.  It was seriously affected during the last five weeks of treatment.  The whole world is fuzzy with or without glasses.  Reading is not the most fun thing in the world right now.  That's why I haven't been around lately.  I still can't drive, and I wear out easily, but it is so wonderful to feel that life is improving.  :)

It seems like half of my days this year have been spent visiting the doctor, having scans, getting chemo, and even spending the night in our local hospital. When I'm not busy with those minor details of life, I'm having fun within my limitations. Today we took the boys and went to Putt-Putt and played two rounds of mini-golf. It was fun! Following are some other things that have made my day (and more) recently.

I am the director of a church youth club called Pathfinders. We are part of a world-wide organization. Recently we participated in an activity along with other clubs from our part of Indiana. The first weekend in May we will have a state-wide gathering where we all camp together and socialize. We'll also show off our terrible marching skills and have fun doing all sorts of outdoor activities. The picture is of most of my club. I think we were short two boys that day.

My son was the prop manager for his school's play in February. They did The Diary of Anne Frank and I made Anne's diary for them. I even sewed the pages in. I went to see the play the night after I got out of the hospital. It was worth the effort as they did a really good job. The following Monday my son came home with the diary and gave it back to me. Every member of the cast and crew had written in it especially for me. It was a rather moving experience.

For the past two or three weeks I have been visited regularly by Mr. Cardinal. He likes it when I whistle at him, he knocks on the window for my attention, and seems to enjoy watching me drive Mariokart 8. Recently he has brought his Lady Love with him. I don't expect to see him much now that the trees are starting to leaf out and nest building is in full swing.

Last Monday my older son was inducted into the Leroy F. Yoder chapter of the National Honor Society. Out of 40 inductees, there were only six boys. We all enjoyed the reception that followed.

Hi Elizabeth! Great to see you again! Nice post and pics. I hope you're doing well! I know you're in our thoughts and prayers.

My good post of the day is that I had knee replacement surgery about 5-6 weeks ago, and I'm starting to get off the pain killers, at least I think so. I tried to go cold turkey yesterday, and wound up giving in just before midnight. But, if I can get down to one a day, that will be better. It's not an addiction thing, I just don't feel good with all the drugs in my system so want to get back to normal as soon as possible.  (AKA should enjoy seeing this.)
