Where Eagles Dare
Brian G. Hutton | USA | 1968 | 35mm | 155m
In this action packed, high-body-count WWII thriller, commandos Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton and MI6 agent Mary Ure parachute into the Bavarian Alps to rescue a vital allied war planner captured by the Nazis. As with all Alistair MacLean adaptations, there just might be the secret traitor in their midst. And it ain’t Clint.

Preceded by:

X, Y, and Zee
Brian G. Hutton | U.K. | 1972 | 35mm | 110m
Socialite Elizabeth Taylor takes off the gloves and goes to war when husband Michael Caine takes up with boutique owner Susannah York in this adaptation of Edna O’Brien’s novel.

Series: Film Comment Double Feature
Venue: Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center

Not sure why anyone would want to see X, Y, and Zee. I suppose there will be a break between the two films, so (if it's not sold out) maybe it will be possible to go just for Where Eagles Dare.

Talk about a diverse selection of movies  ::)
I could see it work if it had been a double feature of Where eagles dare and say, The guns of the Navarones, but X, Y and Zee?
I'd expect the hall where they show it to be half empty on both showings, but with two different groups of people for each time ;)

Well, I guess it shows off the versatility of Brian G. Hutton.

Or maybe they figure it will attract Burton & Taylor completists.  :D
