Guys, I think we gotta accept that Clint is going to do most of his work behind the camera now, and I don't see that as necessarily a bad thing. He's what, 74 now? His age dictates that the roles are going to be drying up and be more limited. That's just the way it is and it is something we should get used to.
As for this project, it sounds good. Clint should be able to bring to it the realism and the humanity this story deserves. He is not a sentimental film maker and I doubt if he'll fall into the trap of shallow patriotic flag-waving other directors succumb to. See Heartbreak Ridge to see what I mean. In fact, there are fewer more 'subversive' directors around than Eastwood. And I mean that in the most positive way imaginable.

Interestingly, Clint is a non-smoker in real life. I remember reading somewhere that Clint said he intensely disliked the cigars he had to smoke in the Spaghetti westerns, but that they served a purpose in helping to put him in the right character mood when filming.

Can I disagree with you? I like the Eiger Sanction. Ok, it is maybe not the greatest movie ever made, but consider this; it has wonderful cinematography, a great sense of danger and a cracking twist. It also has quite a witty script which makes me laugh each time I watch it. The John Williams score is great (Eastwood said he thought it superior to Jaws - judge for yourself on that). Also, it has a great integrity to it, simply because the actors are really there in those stunning locations - no crappy special effects. That really is Clint and George Kennedy on top of that rock pillar, and when the camera pulls away the effect is simply breathtaking.

Hi, I'm new to the Board. I've been an Eastwood fan as long as I can remember. Just to let you all know that I've just come back from a show at the Opera House in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The play was Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. A fine production.
Anyway, one of the actors was none other than Derren Nesbitt, who played Uber-Nazi SS-Sturmbannfuhrer Von Hapen in Where Eagles Dare. He still looks well, if more than a few pounds heavier and quite craggy. Anyways, it was nice to see someone, who appeared in one of my all-time favourite Clint films, in the flesh.
