Off-Topic Discussion / Censorship Discussion
« on: April 25, 2005, 07:13:38 PM »
Hey guys, for my AP (advanced placement) US History class I have the debate topic of "censorship in film".  Censorship is something I'm really passionate about, but for the debate I have to take the opposite side of what I believe.  As I was thinking about who I was going to interview for the topic, I thought who better then the cool people on the Clint Board.   :)  Since we have members from all over the world, I thought I'd get a pretty good data base of opinions.  Below are some questions that I've been putting together for the last couple of weeks, if you guys would please take the time to respond I'd greatly appreciate it.

1.  First off, do you believe in censorship?

2.  Do you think that certain things need to be censored in film?  Some more then others?

3.  Do you think films influence people, if so then you think that producers should be wary of what they produce and how it could affect people?

4.  Do you think films can influence people to commit crimes?

5.  Do you think that films are a cause of the general decline of morality (at least in the States)?

6.  Should religious films like The Passion of the Christ be censored because it might offend a group of people?

7.  Should political films like Fahrenheit 9/11 be censored even though it could put society into a panic?

8.  Should the topic of child molestation be censored, do you think if a film talks about it in a distasteful way should it be cut?

9.  Should graphic violence be shown on screen, do you think that depiction of violence contributes to radical behavior, especially in children?

10.  Should films that have graphic scenes of drug use, such as Trainspotting and Requiem For A Dream, be censored?

11.  Should films that have graphic sex scenes be censored, should the sex scenes be reserved for only X rated videos?  For example should Eyes Wide Shut have been given an X rating for content?

12.  Is there a point where to much inappropriate language in an R/18 film would constitute it for an X rating?

13. In you opinion what qualifies a movie for a:
(applicable for equivalent European ratings)

PG-13

R

X

14.  Are there any films you feel should censored, not based on quality but rather on content?

15.  Should rape be censored in film?

16.  Do you think that if films are censored it is considered as a violation of free speech?

Those are what I have right now, I'll probably come up with more as time go by.  If you guys could please take some time to do this, I'd great appreciate it!  Thank you!   O0

Clint Eastwood Westerns / Pale Rider and High Plains Drifter
« on: April 12, 2005, 10:16:25 PM »
Recently I got into a debate with my Spanish teacher about High Plains Drifter and Pale Rider.  He told me to re-watch both films and then see if I could see it from his point of view.

His point of view is this: Preacher is a resurrected soul, kind of like Lazarus, I've never thought this.  His opinion of High Plains Drifter is that it's exactly the same as Pale Rider

So I was thinking about this so intent through the rest of class, ha.  I've never thought that Preacher had died in Pale Rider, I always thought he'd survived an attack, most likely with Stockburn.  But, my Spanish teacher is pretty good at this one, he said well then why would he hear the voice in the canyon saying Preacher?  To which I said something about that being an alias for him.  Not my best come back of the day, but I think it worked well enough.

Then my teacher argued the point that High Plains Drifter and Pale Rider are practically the same.  What with the whole protecting a settlement and mysterious stranger coming into town.  I don't know if I agree.

So I thought I'd stir up some discussion on this.  Do you think the Preacher and Stranger are practically the same character?  Are the stories practically the same or are they different?  And any other comparisons any one feels like posting.

I'd like to have a good argument so when I do my oral report next week, I can sound intelligent.  Ha.

Thanks guys!   O0

Questions & Answers / "Misty" Jazz Concert Song.
« on: March 08, 2005, 09:51:40 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew the title and band that played any jazz piece in the  Monterey Jazz Festival sequence in Play Misty For Me

I need it for a school project, well not exactly, I have the topic of jazz, and if the piece is done by one of the artist I'm spotligthing in Misty then I can show Misty.  Yes, I'm looking for a grand excuse to watch Clint in my history class.   ::)

If any of you know it I'd greatly appreciate it.   O0

General Discussion / Favorite Eastwood/Siegel Film.
« on: February 18, 2005, 12:54:01 AM »
My personal favorite is The Beguiled.  I think it has the best over all character development and story out of any of them.  I think it has the best ensemble cast as well.

What's your favorite?

Questions & Answers / Help please.
« on: February 10, 2005, 12:13:49 AM »
For my next art projects I want to do Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach (separately).  I want to do the stills from the opening credits of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.  I've already done Clint and so I'd like to finish off the tres amigos, as I call them.  So if anyone could find the two opening stills of them in the credits and post them here, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!!   ;D

General Discussion / Bridges of Madison County, original script.
« on: January 17, 2005, 03:27:52 PM »
I found the original script of the Bridges of Madison County on simplyscripts.com.  I read it through last night and this morning.  I could immediately see the major differences between the film and the script.  I got done and I liked alot of things about the original, I kind of wished that Clint had kept some of the aspects in.

I was wondering if anyone here had read it and what your thoughts were about it?  Maybe we could get a little discussion going about it  ::).

Here's the link to the script I found.  http://www.awesomefilm.com/script/bomc.txt

The Dirty Harry Films / The Enforcer: Script information?
« on: January 09, 2005, 01:04:30 AM »
I was wondering if you guys on the board could give me some information about this movie.  Preferably about the script like how it got to Clint and possibly about the writers who wrote it.  When I looked at the IMDb.com credits I was suprised to see 6 names credited with the scripts production.  I'm just wondering about it, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!   ;D

Clint Eastwood Westerns / Clint Western Production Stills
« on: July 15, 2004, 03:27:50 PM »
I've just completed drawing Clint from Unforgiven in my art class, and now it's time for me to move onto a new project.  What I want to do now is draw a still from one of Clint's westerns, preferably A Fistful of Dollars or Unforgiven.   I couldn't find that many good quality pictures so I was hoping that you guys here on the board  could help me out.  Any western stills are welcome, it doesn't matter if they're black or white, if it's only Clint or there's more then one person.  Just post them in the thread if you can or email me them.
Thanks!  ;D

Clint Eastwood Westerns / Pale Rider
« on: July 15, 2004, 01:17:04 AM »
My youth leader is doing a program for our church called "God in the movies" and he asked me for help because he knows I'm a big movie buff.  Well Pale Rider stuck out in my mind as the film with the most religious references in it.   But, I couldn't find all that many, perhaps because I'm preoccupied with other stuff, but I was hoping that you board members could help me out.  So if you guys can think of any scenes that are really religious or that are parallels of the Bible, that would really help.  And, any other thoughts on the film are welcome too, I know my leader needs all the input he can get.  Also, I noticed that Pale Rider is rated R, why and by todays standards would it still be rated R?  It's something I'm sure my leader will ask me about and I need a good defense.   :)
Thanks! ;D

Questions & Answers / Unforgiven Badges
« on: June 27, 2004, 11:41:22 PM »
The badges in Unforgiven are way cool, and what's really cool is that my mother and I happen to own one of them.  So she wanted me to ask if anyone here knew what the story was about them?  She heard that Clint had them specially made for the cast or the crew or the both of them.  Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks  ;D
