The Dirty Harry Films / Sudden Impact Soundtrack
« on: April 03, 2024, 02:37:42 AM »
I was playing my ?Sudden Impact and the best of Dirty Harry? Lp and
once again was struck by how strong the song This Side of Forever performed
by Roberta Flack is? Its almost got a Bond theme quality to it.. yet it never seems
to appear on any other releases and it?s not available to stream (as far as I can see)

General Discussion / Eiger Sanction/Totem Pole shot
« on: May 17, 2021, 10:00:57 PM »
I recently watched the scene in The Eiger Sanction where Clint and Burt Kennedy are sitting atop the Totem
Pole in Monument Valley... This scene always takes my breath away.
How the hell did they get that shot... its truly amazing. I did wonder if the initial shot of them talking in close
up was filmed somewhere else... but the shot that clearly shows them up there, as the camera swirls away. Wow.... and no shadows from the helicopter !!
Someone must have taken some photos of the actors being lowered down onto the pole and the whole scene being set up ?

Off-Topic Discussion / Recommended Documentaries
« on: November 28, 2020, 05:21:41 AM »
During this lockdown I find myself watching more documentaries than ever ..
I just finished Storyville. The Highjacker who Vanished. The Mystery of D.B Cooper..

I had a vague memory of this story from way back in the 70s. Very interesting piece..

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had some cool documentaries they?d like to recommend ?

General Discussion / Zodiac/Scorpio/Dirty Harry..
« on: October 13, 2020, 11:03:00 AM »
I recently re watched David Fincher?s Zodiac and enjoyed it even more second time around..
and then it struck me that the actor playing the main suspect John Carroll  Lynch also appears with Clint in Gran Torino..
So Dirty Harry does get to meet San Francisco?s Zodiac killer.... 😁

Off-Topic Discussion / Jack Reacher Books and TV series
« on: June 10, 2020, 10:56:02 PM »
[Moderator: the first ten posts in this thread were moved here from another thread, where they were off-topic.  AKA23 started this thread to continue the Reacher discussion, but there is no way I can move his introductory post to be at the beginning of this thread ... so I'll just quote it here. It is repeated farther down the page.]

Since we have a few readers of Lee Child's Jack Reacher book series on here, and they are making an upcoming Amazon series and there will likely be more information coming out soon about it, I'm starting a Jack Reacher discussion thread. The first series of posts is about how Clint Eastwood make have been a good choice to play Jack Reacher earlier in his career, and later we discuss the AMAZON series and Lee Child's brother Andrew taking over as writer of the book series. This is the place to discuss all things Reacher. Thoughts on past or upcoming books, casting news about the AMAZON series, reviews on the series once it gets released, etc. Enjoy Reacher fans!

[Moderator: And now back to Gant's post, which touched off the discussion!]

Who would you cast as Jack Reacher if you could have any actor past or present ?

I can see Robert Ryan maybe.. or William Smith

Off-Topic Discussion / Who do you just not get ?
« on: May 07, 2020, 03:38:28 PM »
Which band or singer just doesn’t do it for you ? Leaves you cold, disinterested or a band that you simply cannot connect to
even  tho they might be popular and revered throughout the land...

For me it’s Queen.... I never liked them when I was young and to this day I just don’t get them. Mercury’s vocals kill
it for me for starters..

Also Bruce Springsteen. I’ve really tried with him, listened to all his early stuff etc but he just don’t  move me. He’s a
one trick pony to my ears... It’s not that I think he’s $#!t or anything... but his music moves me not one bit..

Off-Topic Discussion / Bland celebrity encounters
« on: April 28, 2020, 12:03:52 AM »
What bland celebrity encounters have you or your family experienced.. I’m not looking for superstar meet ups, just chance encounters
With more minor celebrities..

I once brushed past the actor Peter Strauss in a convenience store in Big Sur, California..

Eastwood News / Eastwood on the Southbank

Hoy Hoy... Great news for Londoners.

Michael Henry Wilson

The British Film Institute on London's Southbank is marking the occasion of Eastwood turning 90

Magnum Force
The Enforcer
A Fistful of Dollars
For A Few Dollars More
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Pale Rider
Escape from Alcatraz

I'm definitely booking up to see Unforgiven again and maybe Tightrope and White Hunter too..

Off-Topic Discussion / Favourite films of 2019
« on: December 24, 2019, 02:19:20 AM »
In no particular order... The films I enjoyed the most this year

If Beale Street Could Talk
Can You a Ever Forgive Me
The Mule ( released here in UK in January)
Once Upon a Time In Hollywood
Marriage Story

No major surprises but thought that these were all very good.
Anyone else got faves from this year.. ?

« on: November 06, 2019, 01:13:41 PM »

So I'm out at a show last night in The North England... I got talking to a guy at the bar and Clint Eastwood came up in conversation. ( he knows I'm a fan ) and he asked me if I knew in which film Clint filmed his own mother in a crowd scene..
I didn't.... Does anyone know if this is true and in which film ?
He did tell me which film but I'll wait and see if you guys know.. (I'm sure you will...)

Eastwood News / Bridges Across the Thames
« on: July 24, 2019, 12:20:45 AM »
Bridges of Madison County is getting a couple of screenings this September at London's BFI Southbank...

I might pop along to see this again. I saw it on its original release and was very impressed, tho I think I've only seen it once since..

Why don't you all fly over for wine and dinner and share one of Clints greatest achievements with me...

From the BFI pamphlet.

"Eastwood's marvellously sensitive yet understated adaption"

" What first seems a harmless flirtation turns into a romance of enormous emotional turbulence and results in one of
The great weepies of the modern era"
