Hello all, it has been a very very long time.

Well Willie Wonka is on the horizon, so I can't use that. Gee what a tough question. I am in the camp which suggests leave the classics as they are. Dirty Harry perhaps, just kidding. Sod it lets go for Scarface, again.

Nice to be back

how about Batman and Superman, Freddy Kruger and Jason Voorhees

I do believe one of those great plot twists was finding out Verbal Kint in the Usual Suspects was the master mind behind everything

Watched a couple of flms this
passing week

1st off Hellboy .........pretty good all round, could have had more action in it and i hate those love interest things that affect the pace of the film in this case "Selma Blair".

The overall look of the film was pretty arty and very darn good Del Toro's trade marks all over it.

The casting was pretty good too i could see any other actor portraying Hellboy as Ron Perlman did. John Hurt was pretty good to as always.

The other film however ......Collateral was $#!t i am afraid to say as i was quite looking forward to it .

Tom Cruise as a hitman ....i dont think so.....started off quite convincing but the film just spiralled out of control and in the end it seemed that tom cruise was in fact a Terminator as he could not be killed.

Personally if i was a hitman and Jamie foxx gave me that much lip i would have whacked him very early on in the film, i mean this cabbie took the piss, chucking all his documents away, stopping him from doing his very well paid work.

There was also alot of predictability as i knew that as soon as Jada Pinkett SMith gave the cabbie her number that this would not be the last we would see of her.....which is a shame.

Finally are you telling me that in a shoot off between a psychotic killer and a cabbie at close range that the cabbie would win.

Cruise please stick to nice films and leave the menacing bad guys to the actors who can really do these parts justice.

Harrison Ford.. yeah i forgot about him. I don't think I've ever seen him in a film I liked... and Airforce 1 has to be one of the worst movies of all time.  I always think his performances are very wooden.

I dont know Indianna Jones was pretty good

But after watching The Fugitive last night i on the whole would have to agree.

Off-Topic Discussion / Re: Censorship Discussion
« on: April 26, 2005, 02:20:55 AM »

Hi Chessie hope this helps

1.  First off, do you believe in censorship?

Yes i do believe in censorship ....i do not have my own children but have nephews and i think that primarily for children that film ratings are needed, if there was no cencorship then kids could simply walk into a cinema and watch any film of their liking and this is not good.

2.  Do you think that certain things need to be censored in film?  Some more then others?

Yes censorship has to catagorised that is the whole point there has to be certain catagories for violence, sex etc as these are areas deemed unsuitable for minors.

However the way these cataogories and ratings are choosen needs some serious work, i would not like to decide what is suitable or unsuitable for the public.
3.  Do you think films influence people, if so then you think that producers should be wary of what they produce and how it could affect people?

Lol this all depends on the persons watching the films, films are merely entertainment but i do believe that  the more intelligent amongst us can differentiate between what is real and what is fiction.

I think that the day film makers start worrying about the effects there films have on the public is the day that movies die, and they are not responsible for the viewers actions.

4.  Do you think films can influence people to commit crimes?

No crime was here long before silent movies and most forms of entertainment, anyone who attributes their crimes
to a film is using that as an excuse.

Crimewatch USA and UK are the culprits lol
5.  Do you think that films are a cause of the general decline of morality (at least in the States)?

God no, politicians do far worse damage. Films like all art work reflect the nature of ourselves and reveal some facets of our species that we try to hide, films and other media are not to blame but the dark inherent  nature of man are

6.  Should religious films like The Passion of the Christ be censored because it might offend a group of people?

No way, no films would be made if film producers sat back and said "hang on this scene may upset some lady in London".. Film makers should be challenging us and our society all the time showing us a different sequence of events or a different version of historic events. I did not like "The Passion Of Christ" but i am still glad it was made.

7.  Should political films like Fahrenheit 9/11 be censored even though it could put society into a panic?

Nope these films only show the truth, it aint the film makers fault for documenting the truth, it aint Micheal Moore's fault that many Americans believe anything their senators and politcians tell them.

8.  Should the topic of child molestation be censored, do you think if a film talks about it in a distasteful way should it be cut?

No nothing should be cut, this is a disturbing topic but if it happens in real life then surely art can imitate this.

9.  Should graphic violence be shown on screen, do you think that depiction of violence contributes to radical behavior, especially in children?

Again it depends on the intelligence of kids, i watched some pretty nasty films when i was a lad but i "code switched" ----i knew what was real and what wasn't.

Again i think that blaming films and video games for the fall of morals is a weak arguement, society is already falling apart and the god botherers are simply looking for scape goats.

10.  Should films that have graphic scenes of drug use, such as Trainspotting and Requiem For A Dream, be censored?

Why not if it happens in real life then art can imitate it.

11.  Should films that have graphic sex scenes be censored, should the sex scenes be reserved for only X rated videos?  For example should Eyes Wide Shut have been given an X rating for content?

Censorship should be maintained mainly as a guide line, a recommendation if you like, Eyes wide shut was not XXX material, erotic and sexual beahviour no matter how deviant is all part of human behaviour.

12.  Is there a point where to much inappropriate language in an R/18 film would constitute it for an X rating?

Nah every one swears, heck most of these words are in the dictionary any way, we all swore when we were kids with our mates but we all knew that we could not speak to our parents and elders like that.

13. In you opinion what qualifies a movie for a:
(applicable for equivalent European ratings)

PG-13 this is a useless rating

R  Some Adult Material

X   Sexual, violent

14.  Are there any films you feel should censored, not based on quality but rather on content?

15.  Should rape be censored in film?

Why it exists in our our papers on our tv's we see this and much worse daily, if people dont like this dont go watch it.

16.  Do you think that if films are censored it is considered as a violation of free speech?

Those are what I have right now, I'll probably come up with more as time go by.  If you guys could please take some time to do this, I'd great appreciate it!  Thank you!   O0
