I recently heard Wilson Pickett's Hey Jude.. I'd forgotten just how magnificent this is..

I loved Harvey's performance, too.

I never heard of Domino Harvey. Interesting, sad story:

The name rang a bell when I remembered there was a film that came out soon after her death starring Keira Knightley as Domino. The wrong choice for actress I think but might be interesting to watch, or a documentary on her life if there is one.

And that's why I wanted to do it. It wasn't just Trump though -- candidate Clinton was every bit as much of a "Manchuarian Candidate", if not more so. One thing for sure, our political system is a wreck with way too much corporate influence, as can be seen in the 2004 Manchuarian Candidate remake.

I haven't seen the remake. It'll be hard to try and watch it now I know the original is so good!

P.S. Know what you mean about the political system being a wreck ... many people feel that way in Britain

It's always a pleasure to hear from you, allycat!

It's a good article, aside from a couple of typos ... "A Perfect Life"? "John Brown’s icy rent-a-thug in Pale Rider"? Aside from that, there are a few things I'd disagree with, but mostly an excellent summing up of Clint's long and varied career ... to date, of course.

I know, I think some people called the author out on those mistakes in the comments at the bottom of the article. I was going to give my two pence worth but comments closed – I was tempted to mention me writing my undergraduate dissertation on Clint  Anyway, a good excuse to come back and post here

I wish I could participate guys, I just have (honestly) NO spare time with work and a 5 year old and an 18 month old running riot 

Had to post and say that I watched The Manchurian Candidate on blu-ray with my husband the other day (by coincidence) and it just blew me away ... it felt so topical with Trump and everything that's going on right now (as you say KC!) ... what incredible performances too. Have to say (apart from early Sinatra) I am a bigger fan of Sinatra's acting than his singing.

Also fascinating to discover that Laurence Harvey (who also turned in a great performance) was the father of Domino Harvey, the bounty hunter (sadly also deceased) – I love following through degrees of separation like that (I could probably get to Kevin Bacon if I tried  ).

I don't 100% agree with everything the writer says but it's a pretty good article.

Haven't watched a Clint film in such a long time ... (hangs head in shame)

Today marks ten years since my last day as an undergraduate college student.

This September marks 20 years since I first went to University. I think we're going to have a thing to celebrate (although some of us have receding hair and paunches already ... me - not yet!) So I beat you

P.S. And you know I first came on here for research for my undergraduate dissertation ... so that was, what, 18 years ago?)

I know Im probably alone in this but Pepper is probably my least favourite Beatles album, after Beatles For Sale..
I know theres some great songs on it.. (tho I'd have prefered it if Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields had appeared on it as originally planned) but it dated pretty fast for me whereas their  other albums havnt..

Yes, you are alone on that  My husband is going to buy the mega deluxe version even though it's something crazy like £140 (or did I make that up)?!

Last night I watched 'Me, Earl and the Dying Girl' which I'd wanted to watch for ages. I was crying at the end. Such a great film. Some of the music was by Brian Eno. The soundtrack was awesome

I have tons of Clint books from when I was writing my undergraduate university dissertation on Clint and masculinity. I probably have over 10 books on Clint including one with essays on Clint and a number of original magazines that one of our original members, mgk, was kind enough to send to me through the post. My dissertation had incredible reference material thanks to mgk. I should have sent her a present to say thank you. I could list the books I have here but I'd have to go hunting round to get them all together and list them. None of my books are in order since I moved house in January 2015!

I bought lots of Clint films when I was writing my university dissertation on Clint and masculinity back in 2000. I started buying them on video (!) and continued on DVD but I didn't replace most of the videos when videos started to become obsolete, consequently I am missing films like Pink Cadillac and Heartbreak Ridge from my collection. And now I've moved on to blu-ray (as a film connoisseur) I actually have very few Clint films on blu-ray. I think I've only got Unforgiven and GBU.

I feel like I've been so busy over the last few years (or more) especially having children that I haven't watched Clint's films for a long time, I'm sorry to say. I finally watched American Sniper the other week. I'm a bit behind with his recent films.

I am bummed that I missed this discussion. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot has to be up there as one of my most favourite Clint films. Of course I am a huge Jeff Bridges fan and Jeff's performance in this film is one reason I love this film so much. I really need to watch it again. My husband's never seen it so I think it's time for a review. It might be 10 years since I last watched it!
