The Dirty Harry Films / Magnum Force alternate ending (?)
« on: February 23, 2007, 08:35:54 AM »
Remember the scene where Robert Urich's character says, "You're either for us or you're against us."?  (Maybe that was David Soul's, I can't remember) Callahan replies, "I'm afraid you've misjudged me."  Well, I always wondered what it would've been like had he answered differently, like, "I'm in."  That would take the movie in a whole different direction.  If I were writing the remainder of the script, I'd have Callahan join forces with them as a way to infiltrate the gang and expose them.

Off-Topic Discussion / Star Trek Appreciation Thread (TOS only please)
« on: November 18, 2006, 07:30:02 AM »
I haven't noticed a "Star Trek Appreciation Thread", so I thought I'd start my own.  I'm restricting this to the original series because it's my favorite.  I expect the other series to be mentioned from time to time; it's inevitable.  Still, I ask all who participate here to please stay on topic.  This will give those interested to start a separate thread of their own (which may mean we could have multiple ST threads...I'm hoping if that happens the moderators won't lump them together).

So feel free to post anything regarding the show that aired from '66-'69, the animated and/or movie series.  As for me, I've been a fan since the "2nd wave" in the mid-to-late 70s when Star Trek was on television multiple channels almost every day and I STILL couldn't get enough!  My family would just roll their eyes when I could name any episode just seconds into viewing.  I'm a big collector of soundtracks; originals and newly recorded.

To keep things going, I'm also starting off with a post I made last summer in the "Movies I Have Watched This Week" thread, regarding Star Trek 2:

Quote
Last night I treated myself to the best of all Star Trek movies, The Wrath Of Khan.  Of course, being a fan of the original series, my opinion is biased.  I "got into" Star Trek before Elvis and Eastwood, which came a couple of years later.  I loved watching Kirk win the fight, get the girl (alien or human) and save the day.  The first movie in the series was an overall disappointment but the first sequel more than made up for it.  As great as The Voyage Home and First Contact are (the only 2 on par w/TWOK), it's this movie that is still my absolute favorite.

General Discussion / CLINT QUOTE OF THE DAY!
« on: October 02, 2006, 02:09:56 PM »
Allrighteethen!

How about we do something new here and start up a "Quote of the day" thread?  I think we could have some fun with this.

Ok, I won't delegate myself as having to be the one to come up with one each day, so whomever posts first each day, that will that day's quote; specifically, an Eastwood quote.

It's not trivia, but can be.  Whomever posts can pick any quote they want from anything Clint said anywhere, anytime; television, movies, interviews....anything!   (Most likely, the most fun will be those from his movies).

So, here's the deal; post an Eastwood quote and give whatever reason why you chose it.  That way it can be discussed the duration of the day only to be changed the following day when someone chooses a new one.  I hope this goes over well.

Of course, Eastwood's known for having multiple great one-liners in his movies, so feel free to add on to the original day's quote to keep the thread going each day.

*Also, PLEASE post the day's quotes in "quotes" so they can be referred back to if needed for redundancy; mucho gracias.

Here's mine for today:

And that’s a hell of a price to pay for being stylish!

This one came to me out of the blue today and I forwarded it to some friends.  I think it'll be more fun to do it here, though.

The Enforcer is my favorite Dirty Harry movie after the original and recently watched it again during the Labor Day holiday.

Off-Topic Discussion / My friend Mike
« on: April 05, 2006, 03:50:11 PM »
I'd like to share something with my friends here on "The Board".  A couple of weeks ago, I awoke early with thoughts of an old school friend that passed away 10 years ago this month.  I was unable to fall back asleep, so I went downstairs to the kitchen and wrote down my thoughts.

The reason I'm sharing them here is because Mike introduced me to Clint Eastwood movies.  We saw Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can together and loved 'em.  He also loved Dirty Harry and the Leone westerns.  So, he's partially responsible for my becoming a big Clint Eastwood fan.

Although it is sad he's no longer here, I chose a "grin" message icon because of his personality.  You'll understand better as you read on.

Here's what I wrote:

Mike and I became friends one summer long ago when he convinced me to take over his paper route while he went away.  We’d known each other from school and living in the same neighborhood, but my helping him is what began our friendship.  We were like brothers, it seemed, until we reached our junior year in high school when life took us in different directions.

I had a lot of fun with Mike, whether we were camping out in his yard, sneaking into movies at Granada Theatre in Malden Square, skipping school, pulling “all-nighters”, going to George’s Island or going on one of many trips with him, his dad and sister.  I always felt welcome at his home, too.  I enjoyed our crossing paths in subsequent years.

What I treasure most and will always carry with me is Mike’s ability to laugh and desire to make others do the same; I like to think it’s something I picked up from him.  He loved to tell jokes, act funny and pull pranks on you.

God bless you, Mike.  I miss you and love you.

Eastwood News / Clint Eastwood in new California tourism commercial
« on: March 14, 2006, 02:18:00 PM »
I saw Clint in a "Visit California" television commercial while watching the A&E channel recently.  They're running it during their American Justice, Cold Case Files and Investigative Reports programs; probably others, but these are the ones I watch.

Teri Hatcher is in it too, just before Clint comes on and says, "Do you feel lucky?  Do you?"

It's great.  He's shown golfing when stating the first line, then a close up with a smile of the second line.

I tried finding it on the web, but haven't had any luck.  I'm hoping someone else has better luck and can post it here for all of us to see.

Off-Topic Discussion / 5 Star Loser in Nashville
« on: March 01, 2006, 10:32:03 AM »
Howdy,

My brother-in-law's band is travelling to Nashville for a guitar show convention on Saturday and landed a couple of gigs in case anyone's interested:

Friday, March 3:  B.B. King's @ 7pm
Sunday, March 5:  Hard Rock Cafe @ 10pm

If you're curious, check these out:

http://fivestarloser.com/

http://myspace.com/fivestarloser

The band is a cross between punk/alternative/punk rock.  I went to England with them last year and if all goes well, could be accompanying them to Australia & Japan later this year.

We're driving down from Massachusetts and are leaving Thursday morning  (Too bad we don't have time to take a side trip to Memphis!).

SO, if you can make either/both gigs, be sure to ask for "Coop" and say hello!

Ciao!

Off-Topic Discussion / Creedence Clearwater Revival Appreciation Thread
« on: February 19, 2006, 02:26:02 PM »
With all these "appreciation threads" going, I thought I'd start one on this incredible band.  If one already exists, I'm sure one of the moderators will move my post to it and that's fine.  Otherwise, post your thoughts here.

I mentioned recently on the Led Zeppelin appreciation thread that I worked my way backwards from Plant's "Now And Zen" album and wound up gaining a huge appreciation and respect for them.

The same thing happened a few years before when Fogerty released "Centerfield".

Before, I used to consider CCR a Beatles wannabe band.  Man, was I ever wrong!  Like Zeppelin, I love the majority of Creedence's material.  My favorite album is Cosmo's Factory.

My wife & I were fortunate enough to see Fogerty perform a few years ago and he put on a great show.

General Discussion / Absolute Power 10 years later
« on: January 31, 2006, 06:17:50 PM »
I just watched this movie again and still love it!  O0  It's one of my favorite latter-day Eastwood movies.  I'm hoping there'll be a 10th anniversary special edition dvd on it's way soon!  :)

I was noticing again how well he acted in it.  I very much like the way his acting improved since Unforgiven.  It also shows in In The Line Of Fire, The Bridges Of Madison County and Million Dollar Baby.

Off-Topic Discussion / 50 years ago today [Elvis recorded these songs]
« on: January 10, 2006, 09:20:07 AM »
On January 10, 1956, Elvis went into RCA Studios in Nashville, Tennessee and recorded “I Got A Woman”, “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Money Honey”.  The following day he’d record just “I’m Counting On You”.

’56 was the “big one”, the year he’d achieve superstardom, overshadowing all those who came before him until The Beatles would do the same to him in 1964.  He had national exposure on radio and tv and made his first movie.  There’d be controversy surrounding his performance of “Hound Dog” on the Milton Berle show and that would subside thanks to Ed Sullivan early the following year by praising Elvis on his show.

In his time, Elvis was the “King Of All Media".

Of these recordings, which do you like the best?  Do you like any/all of them?  Vote, post your comments and thoughts.

The Dirty Harry Films / Dirty Harry soundtracks
« on: December 19, 2005, 06:39:45 PM »
I picked up the Magnum Force soundtrack today, adding to my Eastwood soundtrack collection.  I picked up Dirty Harry shortly after it was released last year.  Has anyone else picked these up?  What do you think?  I'm very happy with them.

Does anyone know if The Enforcer, Sudden Impact and The Dead Pool will also be released in similar fashion?  That would be "very stylish"!  8)

The Dirty Harry Films / Red-haired Dirty Harry
« on: December 01, 2005, 01:33:18 PM »
I expect to get raked over the coals on this one, but David Caruso's character on CSI: Miami, Lt. Horatio Caine,  reminds me of Dirty Harry.  At least, the way he talks reminds me of him.  It's kinda funny, really.  I half expect to hear him say "punk" one of these days.  Caine's a non-nonsense dude who takes care of business (in a flash), not unlike the character he played on NYPD Blue, Det. John Kelly.  I wouldn't want to see a Dirty Harry remake, but Caruso would get my vote to play him if there was.

Off-Topic Discussion / 5 Star Loser in London
« on: November 17, 2005, 08:36:31 AM »
Howdy,

My brother-in-law's band, 5 Star Loser, will be appearing at various locations in London beginning 11/19.  I've only seen them perform once and they're pretty good, as far as new bands go.  They're a fusion of hard/alternative rock music.  I'm tagging along to help out.

Unfortunately, the details of the dates/places they're playing are sketchy, but here's what I have:

11/29 (Saturday) Spires in Salisbury

11/20 (Sunday) Rockers Live in Taunton

11/21 (Monday, lunchtime) Salisbury College

11/23  (Wednesday) King Alfred in Southampton

11/24 (Thursday) The Swallows in Andover

11/25 (Friday) The Frot On The Front in Portsmouth

If anyone's interested and is familiar with these locations, please call ahead to see what time 5 Star Loser will be going on.  If you can make it and see some dude with a big beard puttering 'round the stage, that's me!  Just ask for "COOP" and introduce yourself.  I'd love to meet you!

This is my first trip to London and I can't wait.  I'm sure it'll be a good time and hope to meet whatever members here that may be interested in coming out.  Again, I apologize about the details, but that's all we have right now.  I probably won't have access to the internet during my trip, but if that changes and I can update the info. I definitely will.

Ciao for now!

General Discussion / Coop's Eastwood Poll 2006
« on: October 20, 2005, 07:24:38 AM »
These are my top 10 favorite Eastwood movies, in chronological order.  There have been similar polls in the past, as well as Matt's "Eastwood Film Survivor" game, so I have an idea of what to expect.  Still, there's always new members coming in, so I thought I'd post a new poll.

Be sure to post your thoughts/opinions on your favorite.  Was it the first Eastwood movie you saw?  Did you see it with a friend, or on a date?

For me, it's still A Fistful Of Dollars.  I saw it for the first time on a Boston television channel in 1981 or 1982.  I'd seen other Eastwood movies with a friend when they were released in theaters; Every Which Way But Loose, Escape From Alcatraz and Any Which Way You Can.  This western is what got me hooked, though.  I had to see more!  Fortunately, it wasn't long before I stumbled upon it's sequels and the Dirty Harry movies.  Since then, there's been no looking back!  (Maybe a sideways glance, but that's another story!  ;))
