Off-Topic Discussion / Re: What Was The Last DVD You Bought ?

Philo .

I remember reading interviews when the film came out, where either Mr Eastwood, Warner Bros or both were describing the film as having elements of Shane and the mystery of Eastwood's own High plains drifter.

When you have been an Eastwood follower for a long time, it is easy to take a little for granted the body of work.
This board prevents that through younger fans and their excitement on seeing these films for the first time. It makes me remember how I felt seeing them fresh and especially in the cinema.

I met up wih American Beauty last week as she was in London for a few days and chatting to her also brought this back to me.

Mr Eastwood has a film career that (to me) is unlike any other.

I only have a problem with a remake that is called Play Misty for me.

Call it something else.

Some would say that has already been remade as Fatal Attraction, with Michael Douglas back in 1987.

A play Misty remake has been on and off the cards in the last few years.
I can't remember (because I don't care enough) but the name Will Smith comes to mind.

Clint Eastwood Westerns / Re: josey wales remake
« on: May 24, 2009, 05:56:52 PM »

Why are there remakes ?

There are very few good ideas left out there and Hollwood will always play the safe cards of sequels and remakes.

Remake of The outlaw Josey Wales ..... Yuk !!  >:(

You can't improve something that was perfect the first time around.

The reasons you gave for doing it for no payment.

I'm not saying you are right or wrong but the reason you quoted of "If enough people buy it that could change" I heard before the first issue came out.

If no money is made by anyone and everything goes into the next issue then as you say it is up to the individual if they contribute.

I chose not to.  :)

No offence here, Bruce.

For a writer , Cinema Retro is an incomparable showcase.
They cover subjects not normally featured in mainstream entertainment journals.
They do not carry ads that disrupt and distract from your work and the quality of the presentation is unmatched: large format & glossy paper.
And, they print what YOU write, not what some editor thinks is clever.

Plus, "promotional consideration" is a side benefit.

Maybe, if the number of subscribers reaches a certain level they will pay, someday.
For, now we have to be satisfied with "posterity'.

subscribe dammit!

I think this where we'll agree to disagree

Not to Yanks.

Not to Brits either from what I understood at least of it's early days.

I was talking to someone loosely connected with the mag that they would have loved to have featured the  UK premiere brochure I have of Where eagles dare.

Just my opinion but I feel that they rely too much on peoples goodwill.

Glad you caught it KC.
This was probably the best print of it you would have seen.
All original prints from 1979 are Eastman colour and faded red.

Paramount has struck new prints and I was told by the manager at the NFT last year that the prints had come from the US. So I guess you may have seen the one that was in London.

It had lovely colours and seemed to have less grain than on original release, although that could be my "old man's" eyesight.  ;)

It is well done although probably now a little dated.

I couldn't believe reading about it pre release that this was being created and with Mr Eastwood's help.
