By special arrangement with The Players, Cinema Retro readers are invited to join us for a very special evening in honor of Richard Schickel, the internationally-acclaimed movie critic, author and documentary film maker.

This is a rare opportunity to enjoy an evening at one of the nation's most historic and legendary private clubs for the arts, which was founded in 1888 by Edwin Booth, Mark Twain and other prominent writers and actors. Members past and present include Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Jason Robards, Lauren Bacall, Tony Bennett, Katharine Hepburn, Robert Vaughn, Kevin Spacey, Bill Murray, Sir Roger Moore and many others.

Here is the official announcement.

One of the nation's foremost film critics, Richard Schickel has been reviewing movies for Time magzine since 1972. He is the author of many acclaimed books and the writer/producer/director of over 30 documentaries celebrating film icons. The subjects of these works include Charles Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, Cary Grant, Walt Disney, Elia Kazan, James Cagney, Marlon Brando, Myrna Loy and Clint Eastwood.

Join us for this very special evening, as Mr. Schickel talks about his career, film and the culture of celebrity in an interview led by Lee Pfeiffer, Editor-in-Chief of Cinema Retro magazine.

« on: December 05, 2010, 07:29:40 PM »
Who ever says renovating there house is fun needs some explaining to do. The bathroom I did was painful enough but now it's the kitchen. I'm covered in sweat and can't wait for that time of the day.

Will post some pics of day 1 later.

Web Site Announcements / The Stats Thread
« on: October 30, 2010, 12:02:22 AM »
With SK giving Christopher the nickname of STATS I found myself looking at them myself, which I also do from time to time.

I just noticed we are up to 2396 posts for the month, which is the highest since Jan 2010 when we had the GBU movie night and movie discussion afterwards.

That's pretty significant since we've had no movie night this month and no survivor game.

That's a good health check for the forum. ;)

Well done everybody.

I'll now hand over this thread to Chris....I mean STATS.

I just downloaded it and apart from the normal adjustments you have to make to something new, I think it's pretty good.

Pages load faster and my flash player never worked and now it does. There are even slight changes to this forum.

Anyone else have it?

Just been watching the GF and I thought the black hawk helicopter arrival and tribute to those that had fallen was a touching moment.

Well done and most appropriate.

Lest we forget.

Clint Eastwood Westerns / Newton House

We saw this place in Hang'em High behind the gallows. I've been watching Rawhide and it's turned up in several episodes now. Was it a Walmart back in the old days or what? Any information would be much appreciated.

Off-Topic Discussion / The Internet and human expression
« on: August 24, 2010, 03:26:21 AM »
I sometimes get caught out in typing(saying) something and meaning another.

When you talk with someone face to face, your facial expressions can finish off or relay to that person what you actually mean.

With the internet, we sometimes fail to realise that when we communicate through text, we lose that human contact. We can end up getting angered or frustrated about what someone else has said. (But that is not what they actually meant)

I know I've done it here on this forum and on others. Sometimes I look for a smiley face to express what I am saying but there is not the appropriate face I want to post. :( ??? :P ::) :-\

Off-Topic Discussion / The meaning of life.
« on: June 26, 2010, 02:07:50 AM »
This is one of those endless questions that each individual contemplates at one time or another. I've asked myself this question at times and come to no real conclusion in my mind. I've thought deep and hard but thinking it must be a little complicated to answer lol.

It really should be something simple. Today, something just clicked inside me and this is what dawned on me.
