General Discussion / The Beguiled WCL Exclusive Edition
« on: August 16, 2022, 05:30:19 AM »
I saw that a company in China had released a special edition (I guess just the artwork and packaging) of The Begulied. The artwork can be seen here:

It's limited to just 200 worldwide. I've managed to get one from a guy in the US so will do a detailed review of it on the forum when it arrives. (is it too much to ask that it contains the 12 minute documentary that Clint directed!)

Collectors' Corner / Want to get some magazines back!
« on: May 26, 2022, 03:50:29 AM »
Hi all,

I used to be an avid Clint collector but sold all my stuff as I got fed up moving it around the country. We've settled down now and so I'm looking to get some decent items I loved back again. Does anyone have any Clint items they wish to sell?

Let me know here or via PM, interested in most things, I have the majority of the books already but there are a few I'm missing such as the huge GBU book and the Bill Gold poster book. I'm after magazines in general, I have some of the UK ones but the US ones I'm keen on.

During my usual trawling of the internet looking for new / old Clint related items I found an old interview by Roy Leonard with Clint just after he had completed Play Misty For Me.

General Discussion / Clint Eastwood's America - Book due 22/11/2013
« on: April 25, 2013, 06:12:59 AM »
Another book which is due for publication on 22nd November 2013. This summary taken from Amazon's description:

The steady rise of Clint Eastwood’s career parallels a pressing desire in American society over the past five decades for a figure and story of purpose, meaning, and redemption. Eastwood has not only told and filmed that story, he has come to embody it for many in his public image and film persona. Eastwood responds to a national yearning for a vision of individual action and initiative, personal responsibility, and potential for renewal. An iconic director and star for his westerns, urban thrillers, and adventure stories, Eastwood has taken film art to new horizons of meaning in a series of masterpieces that engage the ethical and moral consciousness of our times, including  Unforgiven ,  Million Dollar Baby , and  Mystic River . He revolutionized the war film with the unprecedented achievement of filming the opposing sides of the same historic battle in  Flags of Our Fathers  and  Letters from Iwo Jima , using this saga to present a sharply critical representation of the new America that emerged out of the war, a society of images and spectacles. This timely examination of Clint Eastwood’s oeuvre against the backdrop of contemporary America will be fascinating reading for students of film and popular culture, as well as readers with interests in Eastwood’s work, American film and culture.

Appearing on Amazon UK only at the moment and in paperback only. It did show as Hardback yesterday too at an eye-watering £50 or so but it has gone now.

Eastwood News / New Book - The Philosophy of Clint Eastwood
« on: April 13, 2013, 07:07:33 AM »

There's a bit of a wait for this one but it's up for pre-order already on Amazon US and UK.

A search for 'The Philosophy of Clint Eastwood' on Google gave an interesting result here which was the editors (Brian B. Clayton and Richard T. McClelland) calling for essay papers on the subject. Here's the main text from the link:

The Philosophy of Clint Eastwood will consider Mr. Eastwood’s body of work as actor, director and, in recent years, composer in relation to philosophical concerns and approaches. It will introduce general readers and intelligent non-specialists to the story lines, approach to filmmaking and film acting, and philosophically relevant themes of Mr. Eastwood’s storied career in television and movies. The volume will be proposed for the University Press of Kentucky series in the Philosophy of Popular Culture.

Essays may address particular movies, groups of movies or topics that bridge multiple movies, for example: force and authority, violence and society, transplanting the Western hero into contemporary society, propaganda in times of war, jazz style and filmmaking, personal
responsibility and choice, ethics and vengeance, genre revision, law and order in the old West, ethics of death and dying, hardboiled detectives, issues of faith and reason, role of emotions, music and affect, crises in psychological development, re-envisioning history, and dealing with personal loss.

The essays had a due date of June 1, 2010 so looks like they've taken a while to edited it  :)

Publication date is January 5, 2014

General Discussion / Clint on The Danny Kaye Show 1965
« on: April 05, 2013, 06:18:54 AM »
I've found a photo of Clint in Rawhide garb appearing with Buddy Ebsen, Fess Parker and Danny Kaye on The Danny Kaye show dated 6th October 1965.

I realise it's a long shot but has anyone ever seen this show? It ran for sixty minutes and they had various sketches which Clint took part in.

Eastwood News / Another Eastwood Musical? The Ballad of Stompin Tom
« on: April 02, 2013, 02:32:11 AM »
I've just seen this website mention a project called The Ballad of Stompin' Tom that Clint has supposedly decided to do next even before 'The Jersey Boys' project which is before 'A Star is Born'.

I can't verify the validity of the report and it is weird that they say that it will be written and directed by Clint but here is the website link:

The Ballad of Stompin' Tom starring Bryan Brown and Shania Twain

Is this yet another musical from Clint? Interesting stuff!

If so I can imagine AKA23 is not going to be happy:
