Yes it could be an April Fools I guess  >:D

Hope you don't take offense AKA23  :( - only a little good-natured ribbing between friends  :) :) :)

I'm doubting this news as it references The Hollywood Reporter but there is nothing on THR's website about it.

Will probably turn out to be the rumour mill at work so take it with a pinch of salt!

Eastwood News / Another Eastwood Musical? The Ballad of Stompin Tom
« on: April 02, 2013, 02:32:11 AM »
I've just seen this website mention a project called The Ballad of Stompin' Tom that Clint has supposedly decided to do next even before 'The Jersey Boys' project which is before 'A Star is Born'.

I can't verify the validity of the report and it is weird that they say that it will be written and directed by Clint but here is the website link:

The Ballad of Stompin' Tom starring Bryan Brown and Shania Twain

Is this yet another musical from Clint? Interesting stuff!

If so I can imagine AKA23 is not going to be happy:

 :)

That's cool TWOMULES, would you consider doing a trade with me for something?

I've just got the Conversations With Clint book and I enjoyed reading it.  Clint seemed very patient with Paul Nelson,  being very generous with his time. I can imagine it might have been quite frustrating to Clint that no cover article came out of all the hours chatting to Mr. Nelson!

It's well worth buying as you get to read Clint chatting in a very relaxed way.

A real shame I missed the Jamie Cullum two part interview with Clint.  From the sounds of it,  it was a really good show!

Did anyone happen to grab a permanent copy of the audio at the time?

I'm guessing here but I think they were joking.

If you don't want to see it you can just ignore the entire thing but please don't try and convince us all that we, deep down, have no interest in it either. Like,  so many negative waves...

It's gonna be great,  Clint is going to get a good script, cast some interesting actors and direct another film that further expands people's preconceived notions about him as a film- maker and we're gonna be right there with him baby...

Like, so many positive waves,  how can we lose?

A bit more information on the High Plains Drifter release. I emailed Michael Daruty of NCB Universal and he was kind enough to respond with the following:-

James,

Our Home Entertainment Group has a tentative Blu-ray release date for High Plains is set for an end of summer/early fall release. We are currently conducting a full restoration of the title which Mr. Eastwood is involved with and will approve. I cannot not speak to the extras on the disc as this will be decided by our Home Entertainment Group.

Best,
Michael

I don't think it's about having standards so much as not disliking certain genres.  I like watching all types of films made by many different directors. I gave Les Miserables a shot, had no preconceived notions about what it was going to be like and found that I enjoyed it.  Same with every Clint picture,  I don't think about or read too much about the film before I see it so I can see it with fresh eyes the day it comes out.

I'm glad Clint keeps trying to try different things. it would be pretty dull having just 30 cop films and 30 westerns to look back on.

I don't know,  I wouldn't mind seeing what Clint's take on a musical would be like.  I'm happy to go along for the ride, sure I'd love to see Clint in a final western but I think he's earned the right to tackle any genre or subject matter.

Even more Clint Blu-ray news!

An interesting question was asked during a Time Entertainment interview with film-restoration expert Michael Daruty about Universal's restoration on Schindler's List.

Question: Any upcoming projects you want to talk about?

Answer: We have a commitment to restore 3 to 5 new prints a year. Right now, we’re working on A Touch of Evil,  O0 O0 High Plains Drifter  O0 O0, Double Indemnity — and we’ll probably add another title or two at the end of the year.

Can't wait to see how great the remastered picture will be on this!

What was her background? I didn't know she supported Clint at one time. Did she have a job? It's been years since I've read a book about Clint and don't remember all the details.

I've said all I'm going to say about it.  It's called private life for a reason and I would rather discuss Clint's body of work than who he or yourself find attractive or deem unattractive.

OK but perceptions of what is beautiful change over time anyway,  many of the models back in the '50s would be considered overweight by today's standards and the 'girl next door' type appealed more back then too. Plus Maggie wasn't  a model how we think of them today,  she was just a swim suit model and for that I guess you need to have a nice figure and a nice smile which she looks like she has in photos.

There may be a slight element of our jumping to her defense as the original post was particularly vicious in it's remarks. What I also took exception to was the comment about Clint marrying Maggie before he was famous meant that it was therefore understandable why he was with this supposed 'unattractive' woman.  I like to think that Clint is a bit deeper than that! By all accounts Maggie was then and presumably is still an intelligent,  warm and outgoing person that had many friends and enjoyed life to the full and what's more she supported Clint financially during his struggling actor years. There's more to attractiveness than just looks... I'd definitely take a caring, intelligent girl next door over a gorgeous but ultimately shallow girl.

Watched my Blu-ray copy of Sudden Impact last night.  Picture quality,  although the best I've seen it so pretty good,  was not as good as Dirty Harry and Magnum Force which I guess they did extra special jobs on.

I like the film but don't really like Sondra Locke's performance very much and find it hard to care about her character.  Some classic moments though so still very enjoyable.
