Yes, haha, I remember web crawler. I didn't find anything useful on that. :)

I was probably using a search engine called AltaVista back then. :)

Gotta get a registration date for Nightwing (Brendan), but I feel like that was about a month before Christopher, and that's when we didn't have any snapshots of the board on the Wayback forum. Does anyone know?

Here's a screencap of part of the threaded board that I saved from November '98 ... might be from just before the "regular" board got started. I have no idea why I saved this page. I also saved a few of the posts from around that time. Unfortunately, they all have "default" names, so I'd have to click through them all to maybe find one that's of interest to us today.

I remember using AltaVista, AskJeeves, and Netscape, but Web Crawler was before all of those... I think it was about 1994 or 1995 that I used it.

You have no idea how badly I want to click on these threads!

"I'm not Gmat but I am the man"  ;D

Maybe you screencapped this because 11/16/98 was your first post. Maybe you were tempted to join because they were talking about the best and worst Eastwood Biographies. That sounds like something that might cause you to de-lurk, doesn't it?  And you said you think you joined around Thanksgiving of 1998. I don't know, but it do present mind-boggling possibilities.

I know Steve and Holden were on before me, and I'm pretty sure GMAT and KC were as well.

You were probably here before KC, but maybe not before GMAT, Steve and Holden.

Ha, look what I found, Conan....

It says it was around from '96-'97.

EDIT!  I kept looking, I could have sworn it was earlier than that, and it was all black & white - here it is, era '94 to '95.

What a great screencap!  Haha, I don't remember Gretchen or the "SEX" thread.  I had to chuckle at my "No you are wrong" response there.  Yea that GMAT thread about the guy being "the man" sounds interesting. :)  I faintly remember looking for Eastwood related books in the mid-to-late 90s; I'm sure GMAT set me on the right track.

You guys are quite the CEWB Chroniclers! (EDIT: Modified plural to include both KC and Matt)

Great news! I found a handful of threads on a stray 3.5" floppy. This one thread shows us Nightwing's registration date, but I also think the thread is funny to read now. Nightwing grew up to be a Moderator a few years down the road. :)

Fire Destroys Famed Covered Bridge Featured in Bridges of Madison County

Unfortunately, there's not anything really interesting on that floppy -- this is the best thread on there.

Umm, nightwing ... WHAT does your post have to do with the subject of this thread? [Roll Eyes]

I mean, it's like ... "Clint has a new film out, Blood Work." "No kidding? Hey, I had a blood sample taken once."

Haha...Nice find.  I'll check my work laptop on Monday and see if I can dig anything up, as there might be a thread or two on it.

I wasn't expecting to see one of my posts there too! Notice how I still tried to keep it on topic. ;) ;D

Do you know when that screen cap was taken, Matt? Was it shortly before this new board came along? I've forgotten how many posts I had at the time this board went live, so I wonder if that 541 is pretty close to the count (that seems like it's a lot of posts during that time period too!).

And yeah, just what type of board did you guys have running here back then?! :D

Yes, it was just before we moved over. The thread was saved on 11/27/2002. At most you probably only had a few posts since we moved over a week later on 12/02/02.

I love that thread. You were walking the tightrope, sticking up for your fellow college pal Brendan, but also adding the throw-away line in there too.

Shame about those bridges, though.

KC was not impressed with your addition to the thread.

Geez. I crossed a bridge once ... It wasn't covered, though ... [Roll Eyes]

God, I love this humor.  Better than any movie I've ever seen.
