This will be the thread for members taking part in the Eastwood Movie Challenge to discuss the Week Four film, Paint Your Wagon. This is a "catch up" week, so there is only one film on the schedule. Also, in this case, we are having a Paint Your Wagon Movie Night on February 21, and we hope to have as many as possible join us then. It's the Drinking Game version, so it should be lots of fun!

Whether you watch right away or wait until February 21, post any thoughts you have on watching or re-watching Paint Your Wagon here. And if you're still catching up ... the threads from Week One, Week Two and Week Three are still available!

Week Four runs from February 15 through February 21. For the rest of the schedule, please see this post: Eastwood Movie Challenge schedule.

I'm starting the thread a couple of days early, so people will have time to find, borrow or buy the movie. If you've actually started watching early, feel free to post your comments while the memory is fresh.

And if you haven't already, make a post in our Eastwood Movie Challenge Journal and add the movies and dates you watch them, and keep updating it as we go through the Challenge so we can all keep track of where everyone stands.

When I told my wife the next film in our challenge was a musical, she couldn't believe that Clint Eastwood was ever in a musical. "I just have to see this" she said.

So we decided to watch it last night. 30 seconds into the opening credits and song, she looks at me and says, "Oh dear, this is going to be bad!"

To her credit she stuck it out for the 2 and a half hours and even thought Clint's singing wasn't too bad. I've seen this four or five times now and each time it seems to get longer and longer. I like the film but it just goes on and on and on.

The highlight for me is Clint's song Gold Fever. I always expect him to start wriggling his hips during the number. A few familiar faces in the supporting cast that pop up a lot in later Eastwood films in this too.

Certainly not your typical Eastwood movie but it shows Clint was prepared to try anything even that early in his acting career.

I was wondering if people were going to wait until the movie night or go ahead and watch this (of course I'm not sure how many will be in the movie night anyhow). I'll probably go ahead and watch this sometime this week. It's been so long since I've seen a lot of these movies, and I am interested in seeing this one again. I've always been known as one who likes the movie, and in the past I've always just thought of it as a fun musical western comedy. So we'll see how those feelings hold up now.

 ;D  She was right!

Maybe you both would enjoy it again along with some coffee and egg/cheese & black bean omelettes on Monday morning!

;D  Well, that way I'll be able to concentrate on just the movie for a viewing, then I can have it on again for the movie night and be able to enjoy the posts and all.

You're a better man than I am, Christopher! ;D

Though, I may try to watch the beginning before next Sunday, in case I'm late for Movie Night. But I really need this week for Catch Up ... I'm two films behind! :o

Yup, just going to. It's ten to twelve now, though, so I'm not going to get to watch the whole thing in Week Three! :o

You could always just monitor the forum and drink when everyone starts posting drunk jokes...

I just saw in the Movie Night thread that Satu found it with Finnish Subtitles! Of course, I was joking that you could maybe watch it with her, but maybe you could ask her where she found it!
