Popup adds?Am I the only one?

Am I the only one getting popup adds everytime I open a new window?Its been going on since this afternoon

I installed a Pop-Up Stopper a few weeks ago, and noticed when I came on the board it blocks some every now and then.

Misty, sounds like you picked up a Spyware parasite.  Conan explained this all to me a year or so ago when I posted having this problem.  You can clean your computer for free by downloading software from this site:

Here's a brief description from the above site that explains what Spyware is:

While advertising/sponsoring is a common way to publish and promote a product for free, some software advertising systems do more then just showing static banners, they make use of your internet connection to retrieve new banner ads from a third party's server and send various information about you. This information is collected and sold to third parties.... Most of these systems are installed with a (often popular) host application, which may or may not work without the snoopware components installed. Some attach themself to your browser, some are completely invisible. .... Ad-aware scans your system for known spyware components and lets you safely remove them. It uses a reference file which is regulary updated to always detect the latest spyware parasites.

Anyway, I downloaded it and I run it every month or so.  You can pick these parasites up just by downloading files or music or anything on the internet.  Buggers.  

It's a quick, easy and free fix, so give it a shot.

Sorry Brendan, but you too have a Spyware parasite on your computer.  This site does NOT have pop-up ads.  Never had them, and hopefully never will.

You should run the program too.

I think I know where this comes from.
Ive installed this shareware program called photobuilder this afternoon, it makes awesome artwork, but I had to pay and register in order to save my artwork. So I found one of those illegal sites that crack registration codes, and it worked but I think its since that time that Ive been getting the adds.
 Ill download that program thanks!

I have it. I run it every now and then. After I visit some "other" sites... just kidding.

The Pop-Up Stopper works fine and so does a a program called Spy Bot. You'd be amazed at what Spy Bot can find.

Using Ad-aware and Spy Bot and a Pop-Up Stopper can really help out, and make you computer run smoother as well, as none of these pesky programs will be running in the background and eating up precious RAM. Which is somethings gamers, like myself, need.

Short of that, towards the end of my PC days a year ago, I did find AdAware to be an indispensible tool for tracking down and eliminating spyware, trojans, and such.

  Programmers who do spyware, spam, or popups are no better than telemarketers.  I miss the 'ole Dos days when we didn't have this unwanted clutter trying to attach itself to our OSes.  I remember back when it was illegal to advertise anything on the Net...
  Here is a handy tip...If you use Kazaa, ditch it for Kazaa lite.  There are tons 'O hidden spyware in the regular version of Kazaa.

Ah yes, I remember the good old days Conan.  I guess were showing our showing our age.  That’s back in  when you actually had to plug in the phone reciever in to an external modem and Web Sites were called bullentain boards.  Remember the old Atari PC’s?

Here is a handy tip...If you use Kazaa, ditch it for Kazaa lite.  There are tons 'O hidden spyware in the regular version of Kazaa.

I told Misty71 about this, but there is Kazaa Lite K++. I'm not saying we all here agree with using this program, and I can't speak for the administrator, but it doesn't contain spy ware, and it offers the ability to connect to multiple users, and it hides you from other people.

  Haha, do I?  I had the 800, 800XL, and eventually 130XE.  I'm an old school computer nerd.  I was actually a co-sysop of a bulletin board in the early 90s - it was called Excelsus BBS, pretty popular in Va.

Wow,  I had the old 800XL myself.  And it's funny you mention the commode....  The good old Commode 64...  Kind of rolls right of the tounge.  I never had one myself but plenty of my friends did...  Use to play killer role playing games on that thing.
