Hi FallenHero, glad to see that you've been reading the board and have decided to join in the discussions here. Welcome!

The first couple of Eastwood films I saw were westerns, and as much as I love most of his films, it's the westerns that I'll always love the most. After seeing a few of those, I saw some of the
Dirty Harry films next. Watching all these "macho" roles, or "Clint being Clint" (as you put it) I grew up believing that Clint Eastwood was the coolest actor, and became a huge fan. Then, I searched out the lesser played films on television (no VCR or DVD back then) and came upon some of his softer films, like
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Bronco Billy, and the
Which Way films, and I admit... I thought they were a little bit of a let-down at the time. They certainly weren't my favorites and part of it was that this wasn't the Clint I was used to or expecting.
Well, that was my experience watching Eastwood as a teenager. I'm nearing 40 now (oh God, I've never said that before) and I find that these "softer" films, although they're not "Clint being Clint," are some of his best works. Okay, maybe not the
Which Way films, though I have grown to have more respect for them now than when I was a kid. But
Bronco Billy and
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot have since grown to be two of my most favorite Eastwood films, and then later, when
Bridges and
A Perfect World were released, I added those immediately to my favorites list (okay, I have a lot of favorites.

) They're definitely some of his best achievements, and extremely enjoyable to watch even though they're not "Clint being Clint".
Clint's performed roles and given us films for nearly everyone, for those who love the action films, war movies, comedies, westerns, dramas, "soft" drama, and even musicals. And although Clint may seem stereotyped to more casual observers, those who have embraced his entire career see an actor who has really given us something for just about every genre, and given us great performances in every film he makes.
Do people watch Clint to see him be Clint? Yes, I think a lot do, just as I used to. But, I also think that those fans he makes by being Clint usually wind up watching some of his other films and accept (if not love) when Clint is sometimes "less-Clint". If that makes sense.

Hope that answered the question. I'll stop rambling now and let someone else answer.

Once again, welcome to the board.
