I still have my VHS to watch. HPD is another one of those expensive titles that's not easy to find for a good price (sometimes not easy to find, period).

I dont like buying stuff off the net, unless its an import CD or something. I did that with a Blink 182 CD, and thinking about doing it with a English band.

But I did see High Plains Drifter (on DVD) at a local store, but I think it was 29.99 or something crazy like that, while most of the other classic Eastwood movies ranged from 7.99 to 14.99. Eesh!!

I bought my copy for $14.99 at Warehouse.  It might  have been used, I forget.  But can't Best Buy order it for you?  Or some other store that's not charging a ridiculous price?  Thirty bucks?  Sounds like what they charge you at Borders or those kinds of stores.  You should be able to find it at a reasonable price somewhere if you really want it.

when we are talking about high plains drifter , another movie which comes to my mind is 'pale rider'where the stranger comes to town from nowhere. and has a terible past. isnt this character similar to that of  what clint played in 'drifter'

Yes, and I'm sure the similarity was intended. One difference is that in High Plains Drifter, the "mysterious stranger" character that Clint plays seems to show mostly a demonic side ... whereas in Pale Rider, he's more clearly on the side of the angels.

We had some good discussions on the old Board about the Stranger and the Preacher ... maybe we could start another one here?

moving on with it most of the characters clint has played in westerns have been of similar kind, where a stranger emerges from nowhere talks less his actions speak louder than his words. he has been a man with no name actually and a man with a lot of mystry. this image of his was what  attracted me towards his films.
