How many folks think Chief Dan George was awesome in The Outlaw Josey Wales?  I grew up in Southeast Alaska, and I understand CDG is from around there.  I love his lines and conversation with Clint when they meet!

'...endeavor to persevere...'

'...but it's not for eatin', it's just for looking through!'

Clint definately makes sure the casting is right on the money!

:D I couldn't stop laughing when he said that "It's not for eating its just for looking through" and what about when the native american girl sneaks up behind him

;D "Im getting better at this" then the girl sneaks up behind him

Thanks for that insightful comment, Donald. I've merged your topic with an earlier one on this actor.

Please don't start a new topic unless you're sure there isn't already one open where your post could go.

I would have to say that CDG was the right person for the rols and his delivery of his lines in the movie were the right mix of comedy and drama.   ::)

I loved that dude! :) He was so awesome. He was almost my hero in that movie. He would have been, except for Clint of course.

When I was going through the "Who Am I" thread I came across a question about Chief Dan George and KC said he was in High Plains Drifter. Now I never knew this and even Matt posted back in '04 that he'd never heard it before either and asked KC to post a cap and it was this one:

That isn't Chief Dan George is it? Nobody said anything in the original thread so maybe it is, but it doesn't look like him to me.  ???

Here's where the "Who Am I" question started.

Yeah, I guess it isn't him. But I'm sure I read somewhere that he was in it ... I didn't just make it up. Cannot recall where it could have been, though.

Chief Dan George in my opinion is probably one of the funniest character's in any western ive seen. Some of the lines in OJWales are unforgetable.

As previously mentioned on this thread - "It's not for eatin, it's just for looking through", get's me everytime, along with the "Who the hell is this damn woman" ......

Absolutely priceless stuff, and true credit must go to Clint for letting Chief improvise.....

I once read a interview with Russell Means some years back and he had commented that CDG's performance in Josey Wales was one of the few if not the first real honest portrayal of a Native American on film. Thats what makes that movie work. It's not jsut CDG, but Will Sampson as well as Ten Bears.

There's a great deal of dignity in that movie. It's still a better movie than Unforgiven.

Hi guys, I'm back after a long time. I've had some problems but now I hope to stick around. Chief Dan George was terrifc in "Josey Wales" and I, too, think it's a better movie than "Unforgiven"

He also had a good performance in a little known Western called "Dan Candy's Law" (1974) about the Cree native,  Almighty Voice incident, between said native and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Its not bad.
