European Eastwood gathering rides again!!!

I´ve earlier tried to find a cinema in Denmark where we could watch some clint material, but sadly it failed due to lack of acces of older eastwood material in the right format.
However, something has come up that might be an somewhat acceptable alternative.
I´ve begun working on a sportsbar called O´learys. which has 43 smaller televisions, and 3 large screens, so any sportsevent can be shown from every possible angle. this might serve as an good alternative to watching eastwood material on a big screen, especially when we are now be able to run DVD material.
I´ve discussed the option with my boss, and he seems keen on the idea, so if people would be interested in travelling to Denmark and watch some eastwood material, and get to know one another IRL.
If there´s anyone who would like to do that, i shall begin to work on the details about getting a license for showing ANY EASTWOOD DVD WE HAVE ACCESS TO

We serve Fosters, and a few other i cant remember at the moment. We got a selection of 54 different bottled beer from all over the world, and 12 different on tap. (It was quite a joy to "sample" them when we opened  )

Dane, I would love to be able to do something similar in the UK. Any idea how much it would cost to get a licence? I'd imagine it might be rather expensive.

I remember when I went to go and see Mystic River, it was only on at one cinema in the whole of Birmingham (the city where I'm from, and which I still live near, in England). That's a city with a population of a million! How ridiculous. And it was only out for a couple of weeks or so. If I had the money, I would set up my own cinema and show all the cool films I wanted (by Clint, David Lynch, Hitchcock, Kubrick etc) plus all the recent and past arty films that get a raw deal in place of Hollywood blockbusters. I wonder what is the point of showing the same films throughout a city within a small distance of each other (sometimes) when there is no variety within those cinema listings. If non-mainstream films were more available perhaps more people would go and see them. I know I would. There's plenty of films I've missed out on over the years (including Clint films) because they weren't showing near me or only for a limited period.

I would love to join you in Denmark (I suppose I'm one of the few people on this board who is relatively 'near' you, in terms of geography) but even I am a fair distance away. However, I do plan to visit Scandinavia within the next year or so...

It´s not that expensive to rent a cinema in Copenhagen. the problem was the selection of movies i had acces to (only late 80ies, early 90ies movies to select from. not a lot of his greatest hits there sadly...
Maybe they have a wider selection in the UK, i dont know...
There is basicly two expences you have to count in. one is the renting of the cinema which comes cheaper if you want to have a show after the last movies have been shown. If ti´s a big cinema it might have the connections toget the movies you want for you, othervise you have to call the different movie distributors to hear what they got, and at which price. of course the prices differ in the uk and denmark, but if i had acces to the movies that people would travel long distances to see in the cinema, the danish gathering could be done for approx 80 pounds for two movies including cinema renting for split between 10 persons.

I´m glad to hear that  . I know that the distance is a big problem for the american members, but we still got a few european members on the board.
Good news by the way. my other boss (a big eastwood fan too, to my surprice) would like to handle the administration of getting the licenses for ANY movie we would like to see. Apparently he got a lot of connections to the movie diastributors through the big corporation that ownes my workplace. This means that we might watch some of eastwoods older stuff. that would be nice. Anyone intersted now

Sure bcm, i´ll count you in. I figure it´s going to take place in the spring, so those who wants to join in dont have to think about setting money aside for the gathering with such things as christmas (a mere 3 months away, now.) and other expences...
besides, with that much time to go before the gathering those who have a tight economy (or a father to persuade   ), might be able to get it all together.

I have been on the sidelines since the film side of things broke down.

However I would like to still meet up with fellow fans. I should be able to produce some of the rarer film items on to a DVD for a screening.

So consider me in too.

A meetup would be great whatever the case...we could have ones in our own country but also perhaps a European one. Time and money might not let me get to the latter though

Thanks for the information by the way, Dane. At the moment having my own film festival is about as realistic an idea as me sprouting wings and flying over to your meetup But there are lots of arty things if you know where to look...e.g. there is a London-based film organisation you can join, I believe it's called the National Film Theatre, which offers the widest range of films screened anywhere in the UK - I think I'm definitely going to join when I move to London next year.

The NFT is where we saw Mr Eastwood last October. They have also has a couple of Eastwood seasons and he first attended after the completion of Pale rider and then again to promote Bridges.

It definetly sounds like there´s a greater chance for watching eastwood material in london than copenhagen.
Philo, It would be really cool if you could bring some of that material of yours over here on dvd.

As for the current situation on getting a "licence" for watching eastwood material, i´ve been promised that it can be arranged within a month. so all there´s really up for us to decide is which movies we should watch.
