Actually this is old news. Well okay, I didn't start a specific thread about it, but I did mention it a while back. I have subscribed to Empire magazine for years now (and in my opinion it's one of the best film mags out there). A few months ago we the readers had to vote for who we thought the greatest living actors were (the only criteria was that they had to be over 50, I presume because that way they'd have an extensive body of work, and obviously, they had to be still alive. At the time of voting, Brando was still alive. I believe we were able to vote for 3 actors.)
I commented in another thread (which I forget but if I spent time looking I could probably find my post somewhere) that I had voted for Clint, plus Robert De Niro or Dustin Hoffman (I think the latter, though I can't quite remember) and Judi Dench I think it was. I too was annoyed that Clint only placed 9th but it's not bad considering how many votes were cast and the fact that Clint probably does have a higher profile in America than in the UK. I have no facts on which to base this supposition, but certainly I don't know anyone around my own age who's into Clint (I'm 25). Mind you, as I commented on another thread recently in the off-topic section of the board, I don't know many people who are as passionate about film as I am. Anyway, that might be the reason why Clint doesn't place higher - nothing to do with the voters' ages as we were all voting for actors over 50 anyway.
I found anearlier post of Ally's about this poll ... it was in the birthday thread for Clint that she started, last May 31! I wasn't sure where to start this thread and I know it's common knowledge that it's Clint's birthday today, but I wanted to send him my best wishes for a very happy day. No doubt the moderators will post a big banner on the site later today with Happy Birthday Clint on it
I want to say thank you to Clint for giving us all his wonderful films and acting performances. His work is always such a pleasure to watch. There's always a Clint film on somewhere, which shows how popular and familiar he is to everyone (Escape From Alcatraz was on BBC One last night, for example!).
The readers of Empire magazine have gone some way to paying homage to Clint by voting him 9th 'God Among Us' in a poll which pays tribute to more senior actors and actresses who deserve particular recognition for their work. After all the votes were taken in, the magazine narrowed down the list to 30 such 'Gods'. Naturally I voted Clint as my no. 1...I'm sure Clint won't mind that Morgan Freeman beat him at 7th place
I've finally corrected the spelling in the thread title ... and removed the "grocer's apostrophe." Hope wilky74 doesn't mind!

Some may say that us Brits have weird tastes but as i have previously said there are loads of actors over the age of 50 form the British Isles.
Sean Connery, Micheal Gambon, Michael Caine, Patrick Stewart, Ian Mckellan, Brian cox, Anthony Hopkins, etc etc.
I aint defending that certain magazine i am just saying that if you live in the Uk there are many more actors and actress's to be considered.
