On the old Board, Stranger posted that he'd found a contact for David Soul, who played one of the "Death Squad" cops in Magnum Force, and that he'd e-mailed him to ask about his recollections of one of the "missing scenes" in the film.

I thought I'd post a description of that scene here, while we're waiting ... it's from "Jake"'s excellent Dirty Harry site, www.the-dirtiest.com ... Magnum Force Cuts.
Quote
Davis' Speech

After leaving Charlie McCoy's family at the airport, Harry and Davis drive back together.  Davis needs cigarettes, so they stop off at a bowling alley and decide to grab a beer.  As they enter, a group of young people leave and are quickly followed by two guys in work uniforms.  Davis suspects something and follows them around the building.  He arrives to find the two guys beating the lone black kid of the group.  As he begins fighting off one of the attackers, the other charges with him a knife.

Harry appears, beer in hand, only to smash the charging attacker's head with the bottle.  He then rushes to the young boy's aid and attempts to revive him, but he is already dead.  (The boy's friends have informed them that he has a heart condition.)  Turning his attention back to the struggle, he sees Davis slam the other man's head into a car fender.  When Harry points out that the man was already unconscious, Davis simply smiles, "I know,".  By now, several onlookers have gathered around the young boy's body.

Davis addresses the crowd, asking them how much longer they will tolerate this sort of criminal behavior in their city.  As his speech becomes more heated, Harry stands back, taking it all in curiously.  One of the largest scenes to be cut from the series, possibly to avoid another racially motivated death (after Charlie Russell's death in Dirty Harry), or to avoid giving Harry another clue that he didn't really need.

Were these scenes shot and filmed? Cause if they were, then why couldnt Warners put them on the DVD?

Congrates Cal, looking good, I just hope we can all get used to it ;)

As a nice little present to the greatest bunch of people I have had the pleasure of speaking to.........

From Jakes excellent Website

The Clothing Store Robbery
Before arriving at the scene of the Ricca murder, Harry and Early are driving around the city.  As Early talks, Harry notices a group of teens carrying a large bundle of clothes that appear to be brand-new.  They approach the group, but are not greeted very warmly.  As Early tries to question the suspects, Harry pulls one aside into an alley.  When Harry returns with the suspect, he is much more willing to admit the clothes are stolen.

Here we see Harry upholding the law, as well as his reputation for being "Dirty".  It's possible that the scene was cut to avoid showing Harry taking too many liberties with the law, given the nature of the villains in the film.  Considering the length of the scene, the lack of any photos would suggest that it never got past the draft stage.

:-\ As Nightwing noted above, it would've been terrific if those deleted scenes were included on the DVD.

Oh yeah...
....And did we debate about what should have been included on the DVD, so much could have been added :'(

Oh swell, another censor taking out the best scenes! >:(. I would like a Dirty Harry dvd set with nothing taken out, dirty words included for realism. We are all adults censors! We can handle the outtakes! ;)

They may not exist anymore ... :o

(The only evidence we have that they were actually filmed is on Stranger's stills and lobby cards)

The scenes being lost forever would be the only reason I would except for them not being included on the DVD.
My guess is they never even opened the vault door .

The Stranger and I have quite a number of stills from this scene(s) . I have just located some between takes , I will see if I can include one or two .

Thats the first I`ve heard of that particular scene.  It appears that there are quite a few missing scenes.  I bet that somebody, somewhere has these scenes sitting on a dusty shelf somewhere.  To have stills of that calibre, there must be film.  I can`t see Warners taking just still photographs and leaving it at that.  What do you think ?

i'd have a problem with the scene being taken out on a purely racial base.
sure its awful that it happens but racially motivated crimes are a reality and something that cops like harry would have to deal with, as long as its not glorifying it, and it doesn't read like that to me, then WHY?
i'm really annoyed that there may have been possible extras that were dicsarded which should have been on the dvd

:)  I am new to this board and was so thrilled to find someone asking about the scene at the bowling alley with Harry and Davis. I have two 8 x 10's from this scene, as well as a smaller pic and have always wondered where they originated from. I knew they weren't in the version that was released on VHS and DVD. It's sad to think they were cut from the movie and are probably lost forever, but I'm glad to know that other people know about this scene, too. Thank you for the info and the link to the website about the cut scenes.

Cool pic.  These scene's were both in the movie tie-in of Magnum Force and they'd be cool to see.  Ill have to rent the dvd some day.

Just wanted to point this out but... either the address for this link is wrong... If you click on it, it takes you to a not so friendly oriented Eastwood place... in fact it's porn... Yeah the first link for "The Dirtiest" should be: the-dirtiest.com.... That hyphen makes all the difference.

Ooops! I am really not too swift today! I didn't even notice Man was quoting ME!  :-[ :o

Man, if it's OK with you ... send me a sign (post here or PM me) ... and I'll delete all these posts, since the original mistake (MINE! ALL MINE!) is fixed now. Including yours, Stranger ... OK?  :D (Thanks for making that sacrifice for the sake of the Board! ;) )
