The USS LST 325 in Evansville harbour (Indiana).
Inside the boat (restorated in 1951) had been realized the first shootings of the movie.

The USS LST 325 may now not be used for Flags of our Fathers:

Quote
Plans to use old warship in movie may be abandoned.

Plans to use a World War Two ship in Evansville for scenes of a Clint Eastwood movie may be scrapped. Officials had hoped that a film crew would come to Evansville to shoot scenes involving the LST 325.

But the ship's commander, Captain Robert Jornlin, says the craft will not be used because movie officials wanted to take the ship to Iceland for filming. Iceland's terrain resembles the Pacific island of Iwo Jima, where the film "Flags of Our Fathers" is set.

Jornlin plans to meet with movie officials in Iceland next month. He hopes to persuade them to film at least the inside of the ship in Evansville.

Eventually, the L-S-T will be permanently docked on Evansville's riverfront as part of a World War Two museum. Similar ships were built at the Evansville Shipyard during the war.

The discussions about these ships have got split between two threads.  Should we stick to this one now or merge them?

Great Stuff! I was on an LSD (very similar to the LST) during VietNam. I have been a Hoosier all my life and didn't know that Evansville had a harbour!! (Ohio River of course). Very cool. 8)
