Movies I have watched this week

A little over a month ago I watched Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein, and last night I watched Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman. These were direct to video movies from 1999 and 2000, respectively, and I somewhat remember hearing about them at that time (I probably saw the videos out in stores). I figured I'd mention them on the board since I used to have an Alvin avatar.

I watched these on the Encore Family channel, so if you have kids you might want to check them out if you have that channel (they're probably available through other means as well). They're very much directed at children, but an old fan like me enjoyed them as well, especially the Wolfman movie. Or if you're Matt--Matt might enjoy them too.

I've taken the opportunity to rewatch a bunch of Coen brothers' movies, including The Big Lebowski, Burn After Reading, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Blood Simple, Raising Arizona, A Serious Man, and The Man Who Wasn't There. Not just great movies, and even masterpieces, but comfort movies. I might pull out some favorite Woody Allen movies next, and go from there.

Tina and I watched these last weekend.  Love these action movies.  Hoping a fourth is coming.

Yeah love the Expendables. No other movie has had that many action stars in it. I'm hoping for fourth one too. Would be cool for Eastwood to make a cameo like Chuck Norris did. But I know that's highly unlikely.

There was a rumor going around that Stallone approached Eastwood to appear in the third Expendables film.  I don’t know if there’s any truth to it, but definitely would’ve been cool.  Still would be but I agree, very unlikely.  Not impossible, but improbable.

Antwone Fisher (2002)

I had trouble sleeping last night and came across this.  Very good and entertaining.  Great acting by all involved.  My first time seeing it and reinforces my opinion that Denzel Washington is the greatest actor.

Denzel is a great actor, and a pretty good director as well. I find it kind of ashame that he has not really maximized his talents in recent years in his choice of projects. Most of the movies that he's done, especially recently, are kind of forgettable action movies, similar to Liam Neeson. He's another actor that is more talented than his projects would suggest.

I recently watched Superman III and IV, which I hadn't seen in a very long time. I only remembered parts of the movies. I've seen the first two movies the most, which is why I just skipped to the last two, but now I kinda want to go back and watch the first two again. The third film is so bizarre, it feels like they stuck Superman in a Richard Pryor movie. From the opening slapstick comedy sequence to the end, the film is such a departure from the first two movies. Though the scene when the villain's sister is pulled into the super computer really freaked me out as a kid. III is definitely my least favorite of the franchise.

I also watched the 1943 serial Batman. The racism against the Japanese is cringeworthy (and of course reminds us of how nasty that time in American history is), but it was interesting to see the very first live action version of Batman nevertheless. You can see how the 1960s show took inspiration in those old serials. Coming up soon I'll check out the 1949 serial Batman and Robin, plus I have a couple Superman serials to watch from 1948 and 1950.

It's interesting that current TV seasons that run maybe only 8 or so episodes seem like a throwback to the serials. I've thought before that those short seasons really make it more like a miniseries.

I watched these Paul Newman films a short while ago.  The Verdict was very good.  I did not care for Absence Of Malice, though.

I have been obsessed with catastrophe movies fom the 70's. There is something about them so pleasant to watch, I always think I was born in the wrong time.   I posted only the 77 but I watched all the Airport ones. The most disappointing for was Earthquake I couldnt like the story or the characteres. It was nice seeing Genevieve Bujold so young in that one.
My favorite are The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure, I cried so much in some scenes. Gene Hackman and all the cast are fantastic.

Both of those have looked interesting to me in the past but I still haven't watched them.

Aline, I've seen a number of those disaster movies as well. I watched the Airport movies last year (or was that early this year--who can remember anymore? I have the movie journal at least...) and enjoyed those.

I think this is one of Vincent Price?s greatest performances.
The film is a lot of fun, Packed with great British actors of the time, some awesome London locations..
and the fabulous Diana Rigg as Price?s daughter...

I recently re-watched the Man From UNCLE re boot and really enjoyed it. I?m surprised it wasn?t more successful.. I
thought it was a good update and real nailed the feel of the original series. Great soundtrack too...

Aftermath 2017

Anyone else seen this ?

Im no Arnold Schwarzenegger fan. The original Terminator is probably the only film of his Ive really rated.
But I did enjoy Aftermath. Its pretty much the only time IVe seen him really act and I thought  he was quite good in it as
were the other actors. Its at times a very slow film but works.. interesting . 7/10
