It seems to be taking a more of a realistic feel then fantasy. I loved the books, and this trailer looks awesome.

I loved the books....

Books, plural? The movie is an adaptation of the old poem, which has been translated numerous times over the centuries.

It has nothing to do with John Gardner's darkly satirical masterpiece Grendel, which ingenously reimagined the story from the point of view of the monster.

To GBU´s defence, i must say that i´ve seen the Beowulf poem in a two book conversion (though why bother, the poem isn't that long ::) ) and it´s nice to see a viking movie with vikings without those stupid horns on their helmets. Stellan Skarsgaard (as king Hrothgar) is probably going to be good, he was just about the only good thing in that King Arthur movie.

There has been some good adaptations of old viking stories recently that are also worth checking out. Notably Niebelung, about the warrior Sigfried who killed the dragon Fafner. The most wellknown actress in the movie is Kristina loken (terminator 3) as queen Brunhilde
(and yes, she shows that she can act  ;) )

That would be Ring of the Nibelungs (2004; German title Die Nibelungen), a TV film. Looks like it might have been a German-British co-production. It doesn't seem to have been shown in the U.S. yet.

This is now being shown on the Sci Fi channel under the title Dark Kingdom. I'm enjoying the imagery, though I'm too sleepy tonight to appreciate the finer points of the dramaturgy. ;)
