I'm tempted to put this in one of the Flags of Our Fathers threads, but I guess it really belongs here ...

One-time Yankee great Hank Bauer passed away last weekend, leading to a flood of reminiscences among sportswriters. Besides winning seven World Series rings with the Yankees (and another as manager of the Baltimore Orioles), Bauer had fought with the Marines in the Pacific in World War II, receiving multiple decorations. Steven Goldman recalled the following story:

Quote
My other favorite Bauer anecdote concerns the Yankees' October-November, 1955 trip to Japan. During a reception, the Prime Minister of Japan asked the Yankees if any had previously visited the East. "Yes," Bauer said. "When I landed on the beach at Iwo Jima."

I can see why you'd consider putting it in Flags of our Fathers thread KC, don't think anyone would object.
i'm sure the Japanese Prime Minister got a bit of a shock when Mr Bauer answered him. ;)
Soldier and sporting great, sounded like a hell of a man.

Yeah, it's encrypted, because they expect you to send money right away ... but if you click "OK" on the security warning, it should come in like any other page. (And you don't really have to send them any money.)

It's just this ...

P.S., Matt ... if the Yankees don't win ... I'd really rather have chocolate. ;)
