THE ROOKIE in Jokes or coincidence?

Ok, just revisited The Rookie, by way of finally adding it to my DVD collection, just finished watching it in fact, I was reminded by the final scene at the airport, where Clint could of possibly made a couple of 'in joke' remarks linked to Two of his most famous characters, in this case, possibly both Harry Callahan and The Man with no Name
I'm probably not word perfect on these quotes but for example, Clint states
"Can you believe that security guard only had 5 bullets in his gun, how about that"
A possible reference to the 6 shots or 5 scenario from Dirty Harry
then, immediately following this Clint turns to Sheen and continues;
"Didn't I tell you to always aim for the Heart"
Which suspiciously resembles Clint's teasing comments to Ramon during the climax of Fistful of Dollars

Just a coincidence or an example of Clint having a bit of fun with his past characters?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

When I watched The Rookie a couple weeks ago, I didn't even think of that, but it does seem like a good possibility.

Definitely Eastwood having fun with his past characters. Not a coincidence.

I'm with you both on this one. Which makes me wonder if Clint just took the whole Rookie concept as being just  a 'bit of fun', a small consolation to salvage from the overall film.

That is a good point. It does seem that Clint had fun with this one.
Another thing that I thought about with "The Rookie", is that when Clint gets teamed up with Sheen's character in the office, it really reminded me of Harry when he would get teamed up with another officer.

Well, I just saw The Rookie for the first time tonight, and I hadn't noticed the "in jokes", but I reckon you're right, mary mary.  Well spotted.   I wonder if there are any other examples in the film.  That would be about the only thing of interest I could find in that movie!

As of today, fifteen, plus all the pre-Leone bit parts.

I'm keeping a list of Eastwood movies I haven't seen at the bottom of my old movie journal post HERE.

I'm going slow but I prefer it that way.  I'd hate to have burned through them all and have nothing new to look forward to.
