Hi all, glad to be on the siteā¦!
Your posts caught my attention, rr-electricangel. I completed a Dirty Harry screenplay a couple weeks ago and talked with his agent on Monday, who was extremely kind, cordial, and helpful -- up to the mention of Dirty Harry, at which point I was smacked down like a snot-nosed school kid. Lol...d'oh! Sort of a "Not only no, but hell no" kind of thing. Ah, well...can't blame him. But still a darned good script. Maybe I can rework it as some other hard-nosed retired cop helping solve what I feel is a pretty interesting and timely string of politically-motivated crimes. Not near as fun without that Clint Eastwood sparkle, though. I actually started to rewrite it already, but it's just not the same. Maybe I'll try Spartacus 2 for Kirk Douglas...
It was Mr. Eastwood's own fault, really, since -- although he's dismissed and ridiculed the idea of another Dirty Harry for reasons I fully understand, and probably would've voiced myself prior to the inspiration to write it -- he did say in one of the interviews on the Dirty Harry DVD four pack that "If the right script came along" he'd consider it. And what with my being a bit of a writer, and having a germ of an idea from a Dirty Harry reference I'd made regarding the Superbowl ad in private correspondence, and it being during the two or three months I had no TV reception and only watched DVDs, three-quarters of which were the first five seasons of Gunsmoke (which are surprisingly noir in their dialogue and situations) and the aforementioned Dirty Harrys, I said "Ah, what the hell...?"
What the hell, indeed. SMACK! Thanks for letting me share my grief with you. I can move on now...
