DVD Cardboard slip cases

I'm really annoyed with these stupid cardboard slipcases that come on DVD's now. To me they're a waste of money, time and paper. I understand they're there to protect the cases and to prevent theft but come on. I hate them! I've been thinking of just throwing them out but I'm pretty uptight when it comes to my DVD collection. So what does everyone else do? It probably doesn't bother some as much as me I guess.

So far I have only had those cardboard cases on CD's and they do annoy me.   The DVD's I have had recently are wrapped in that awful see through plastic stuff that requires the strength of 10 men to open.

I don't like the cardboard slip cases either. I have a few, mostly of Clint's movies that I purchased when I was living in the US.

I have about 7 or 8 dvds with cardboard slip cases and I have replaced a few so far, I found on the internet sites that have dvd covers (either original scans or custom made) files for downloading. I print them on laser and (if it's a good quality image) they look like the original covers.

I haven't replaced all the cardboard slip cases yet, because I'm too picky with the quality or I haven't find the dvd cover yet. But it's just a question of time

The clip cases are a pain in the ass.  I've noticed at work and at home they don't line up with the other normal keep cases.  It makes it very irritating when trying to make everything line up and fit.

I finally gave in and took all the slip cases away. Now I need a box for them all. I left the slip case on my Borat DVD since it's english on the slipcase and squibbly on the actual DVD cover.

I HATE those cardboard slip cases. Most of the time, I just avoid buying DVD's that come with that kind of lame packaging. I mean, they really suck 
As Chessie pointed out, they don't line up with the other hard cases, and they're just ugly. Plain and simple.

I just bought a DVD on eBay and guess what it is cardboard slip case.   I have a couple of spare cases so I will put it on one of those and scan the cardboard cover and then make a new cover for the case.    I suppose the producers of these covers are trying to save money.  YUK

When I first saw this thread,I thought everyone was talking about the cardboard cover that comes with special edition DVD's that slip over the original plastic case.

But are you saying that they are now selling DVD's without the plastic case at all?I haven't come across that on DVD's yet but as Lin said I've seen some CD's packaged that way.

That's what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about Warner's snap cases. Those are gone now.

I haven't had a problem with them yet,although out of all my DVD's there wouldn't be that many that have them.

I got confused when others were talking about scanning covers to replace them,but on the ones I have the cardboard slip case is the same as the one in the plastic case.

OK well, then I don't have a problem with DVD's that come with a cardboard cover -I only have a few like that ... but I agree, they're totally useless -especially when the cardboard cover is the same as the plastic one -I mean, what's the point?

I feel the same as Brendan. I hate them... yet, I can't throw them away either. The one I've got that really bothers me is the original King Kong which came in a metal box. I have to put it on the end of the shelf because it's so much bigger than the others. All I want out of a DVD is the standard case, a chapter listing (I hate when they don't even include that) and English subtitles.

I have that King Kong edition as well. As much as it pains me to look at it out of place I have to keep my DVD's in alphabetical order*. The chapter listings are no longer included because the studios felt they were a waste of money since nobody was looking at them... which is weird considering they diverted the money to making these stupid cardboard cases that nobody wants. I live without the chapter listings page but I'd rather have it then the damn slip cases.

* - My Clint Eastwood, Michael Mann and Martin Scorsese films have a separate shelf where they are kept in chronological order.

Well, I was looking at the chapter listings. Who wants to watch a whole movie when you can just go to a particular chapter?

The only thing that really bothers me about them is that it's hard to get the price sticker off 'em.

I keep all of my DVDs in alphabetical order too. But the only bigger than normal case I have is the special editon of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, but it fits well enough to include with the others. My other GBU DVD is in my Man with No Name box set, which is stored with my box/TV sets.

I had wondered why the chapter listings weren't in the case anymore.

two words price hike, they make most uninitiated punters think that theres something special about the dvd and therefore justifies a higher price

I've always HATED these el cheapo cardboard slipcases. I've got too many of these cases in my DVD collection, and hopefully Warner Bros. has started to take their DVD's more seriously.
