Movies do get considerably quicker DVD releases now than they used to--I can remember as a kid I thought it took about six months or so until the DVD release.

I think it's funny that someone can say "I can remember as a kid" in the context of a movie's release on DVD.  ;D

Good point--it was probably with VHS tapes that I first noticed that with, and then as a teenager, I guess, was when DVDs started creeping into the commercials for the new video releases.

I noticed a new collection of DVD's in the stores in the past few weeks.

It's a collection from Warner Bros. of the greatest war films. Land, Sea and Air. 3 movies in each collection.

The Land collection is 3 Eastwood films, Heartbreak Ridge, Kelly's Heroes and Where Eagles Dare.

Clint makes the 3 greatest land war movies.  :)  Who am I to argue with that choice?

Well, I'd pick Letters from Iwo Jima ahead of any of 'em! ;)

And surely those three, in particular, aren't top drawer as war films, however entertaining they may be in other regards. For one thing, there's not much in the way of actual war scenes in any of them!

Of course you are right KC. I was trying to be funny.  :-[  I would pick WED but not the other two.  :)

I have also been looking for this release. I can only find pending release information, with no date, so perhaps it is in the pipe line somewhere. I do hope so.

 " Trouble with the Curve (Blu-ray) "

 by William Harrison

Quote
Like it or not, Clint Eastwood is getting old. We are not likely to see many more Eastwood action flicks, and instead may have to settle for decent dramas like Trouble with the Curve, in which Clint plays an aging baseball scout. Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake and John Goodman play second fiddle to the legend, and Eastwood's longtime collaborator Robert Lorenz directs. Trouble with the Curve feels like a movie I've seen a hundred times before. There's a bit of father/daughter drama, plenty of groaning about getting old, and some redemption for the grouchy lead. There's nothing new to see here, but familiar is an adjective with many connotations. Rent It.

Last year I mentioned a few times about The Man with No Name Blu-ray set being on sale on Amazon, and even bought it myself. In case you haven't gotten it yet but would like it, I see it's on sale again for $18.99 through this Saturday.

There used to be an Amazon link at the bottom of each page here on the board, but I don't see that right now. So here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Name-Trilogy-Fistful-Dollars-Blu-ray/dp/B003EYEF2S/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1358784073&sr=1-1

Warner Bros has announced two Blu-Ray DVD collections that span Eastwood's career, to be released on June 4th. Both collections include Eastwood's newest film, "Trouble with the Curve."

Those are good looking sets. I don't know that I'd slurge since I have so many of them on DVD, but they're still nice sets! The new Eastwood Directs documentary would be nice to see at any rate.

I have a lot of these movies on DVD as well, so I don't know if I'm going to get this either. I didnt know that they were including a new documentary on Eastwood's career in these boxed sets. I hope it's a good one. Special features on Eastwood DVD's tend to be disappointing.

" DVD PICKS: Role made for DiCaprio "

 J. EDGAR

 Directed by Clint Eastwood
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts
 Distributed by Alliance Entertainment

 http://www.nst.com.my/life-times/live/dvd-picks-role-made-for-dicaprio-1.218967?localLinksEnabled=false

Quote
CHARISMATIC actor Leonardo DiCaprio loves playing iconic and historical characters, and the role of FBI head J. Edgar Hoover seems to fit him like a glove.

The film gives a peek into the life of the driven man — what appealed to hoover, and his motivations. DiCaprio has played the role with much intensity and we all know how great he is at portraying a serious role. He is transformed into the iconic figure, with mannerisms and heavy make-up.

J. Edgar shows Hoover’s rise and fall in his profession, how he was driven by his ambition and how he was dangerously swayed by his obsession on communism.

Nice, but the "40" is kind of a cheat with regards to actual Eastwood films.  This set has the 3 films released after the 35/35 set with a bonus documentary.  I'll wait for the price on this to plummet (like they do on everything else over time) before comitting to this set.  We do have a Blu-ray player and the 35/35 set on dvd so no hurry there.

If it were at all possible, I'd love to see the films not included on the 35/35 set released in similar fashion.  I know this is probably unlikely due to different entities owning the titles but still, one can dream.

I'm a bit disappointed with the 20 Blu-ray release as, apart from the new documentary, I have all of the movies already. Was hoping they would include some other Clint movies from Warner.

Some potentially good news though is that High Plains Drifter, Joe Kidd and Two Mules for Sister Sara are being released on Blu-ray on May 8th 2013. At the moment the release is limited to Netherlands for some reason but hopefully this means they have remastered the movies and will be releasing them in the UK and US soon.

You will be able to buy them from here if you just can't wait for the versions in your country! I don't think they can be pre-ordered just yet.
(shipping charges outside the EU can be expensive)

Hey JSE great to see you again.

I think I will wait until HPD is released in the UK on Blue-ray.  Even if it is ages away. Thank you for the links.  O0

Hey JSE,

I could be wrong, but I believe the newest "40" set does include all of Clint's films with Warner Bros.  I think that was the original concept with the 35/35 set and now that a few years have passed and he's released a few more, they want to capitalize on that with this new set.

If it's at all possible, it'd be great to have the rest of Eastwood's films in another set or even two.  As an Elvis fan, to collect all of his movies it took 3 different sets and 2 individual dvds to complete the collection.  There were 2 75th anniversary sets that included all but 10 of his films, 8 of which I found on another set.

I have the 35/35 Eastwood set on dvd so I'm in no hurry to get the new one.  Somewhere down the line I may get the upgraded Blu-ray edition but I'll wait for more output which would warrant expanded editions.  In the meantime, I'm holding out hope a set or 2 will come out to include the remainder of Eastwood's movies.

" West Point "  1950s TV series on DVD.

" Before they became movie stars, young Clint Eastwood and Steve McQueen appeared on “West Point,” a 1950s TV series making its DVD debut this week. "

“West Point: The Television Series” (Timeless, 1956-57, b/w, four discs, $29.93, 39 episodes). Here’s a vintage television program with which I was completely unfamiliar, relating true stories of cadet experiences in and around the military academy of the title with a different cast each week.

The show ran for just one season at a time when anthologies were as common as reality shows are today. With location filming at West Point and well-written episodes starring competent actors, these remain enjoyable half-hour dramas.

Among the guest stars are Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Barbara Eden, Robert Vaughn, Martin Milner, and as recurring characters, Leonard Nimoy and Chuck Connors. Future “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry wrote nine episodes.

Hi Lin,

I'll probably wait too...now that they've made the jump to Blu-ray I'm sure they'll release them here soon enough.
