I know this board has discussed the issue of if Hugh Jackman looks like a younger Clint. And if you know me, I fought tooth and nail for the "He doesn't look like him" side of the argument. But my way of thinking about him has changed when I saw a trailer for Hugh's newest movie called "Australia" when I went to go see Indiana Jones. All I can say is I was DEAD wrong about Hugh. He is a spitting image.

The movie itself looks fantastic. It looks like a western in Australia. The plot is "AUSTRALIA is an epic and romantic action adventure, set in that country on the explosive brink of World War II. In it, an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) travels to the faraway continent, where she meets a rough-hewn local (Hugh Jackman) and reluctantly agrees to join forces with him to save the land she inherited. Together, they embark upon a transforming journey across hundreds of miles of the world’s most beautiful yet unforgiving terrain, only to still face the bombing of the city of Darwin by the Japanese forces that attacked Pearl Harbor. With his new film, Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle."

But the awesome-ness gets even better. They even play the "Ecstasy of Gold" from GBU in the trailer! I was sold.

Thoughts on the movie and is Hugh, Clint?

Must...not...succumb to "nobody compares to Clint!" bias....

Ok there, I fought it off.  I wouldn't say "spitting image".  But yea, he does resemble a young Clint.  I think its obvious that there is something to it considering how many people over the years have made the comparison.  The only "spitting image" I've seen was the kid that played him in "Space Cowboys".

It's funny, I just was coming here to post a thread about "Australia." I seen the trailer for the first time today and I've been obsessing over it all day. This film looks absolutely fantastic!!! Hugh Jackman indeed resembles a young Clint Eastwood from the DOLLARS TRILOGY.

Anyway, the film has it all; adventure, drama, western, war, and romance! These are the type's of films I live for. I cannot wait!

Here's the official website:

I agree Conan, and the highlighted part is 100% right in my opinion.

That kid was Toby Stephens, Dame Maggie Smith's boy. He turns forty next year. Wonder if he's given any thought to starring in a remake of Dirty Harry? ;)

I'm with you Lin. I want to see this film RIGHT NOW as well. This looks to be old-fashioned movie-making that I love.

WAGICK I am sooo looking forward to seeing Australia as well.  We seem to have been waiting forever for it to come out.     I am developing quite a soft spot for Hugh Jackman.   :-[

Interesting that they use the GBU theme (extacy of gold) in the trailer ( 0.38-0.45 )
To my mind Hugh has a way to different nose and chin to be compared to a young Clint (I'll admit he almost get the squint right) but that's about it. I find

I find it easier to compare him with Russel Crowe than Clint Eastwood, and when all is said, I think he has moved beyond beeing known as "the guy who plays Wolverine, and tries to look like Clint"

I even think he stood his ground against the mighty Bale in The Prestige, better than Crowe did in 3:10 to Yuma.
