That's true. His private life and his work both have an overwhelming sense of lowkey to them

While this saves the studio millions in advertising costs...I'm still anxious to see the trailer
I'm curious to see Eastwood handle a ghost story (though, for you trivia completists- he DID do a ghost story Vanessa in the Garden for Spielberg's short lived series...Amazing Stories-- but that was a half an hour and THIS a full length feature and... time has passed since Vanessa and it'll still be interesting to see what he brings to the genre today)

Actually- you can watch Vanessa on netflix thru their streaming site
I personally use netflix for all my DVD rentals over Blockbuster and Red Box. Films come right to your mailbox. No need to stumble out into the snow to rush the film back and get charged a fee

Entertainment Weekly's "Fall Movie Preview" is out this week. (August 20/27 issue.) Hereafter is one of the featured films for October, and it's also mentioned in the "Oscar Watch" list. ("Clint Eastwood's meditation on near-death experiences could be a Babel-esque player.")

" Official Photos:  Matt Damon in Hereafter "

Another Matt Damon film that’s scheduled to hit theaters this year is Hereafter. It reunites the actor with his Invictus director Clint Eastwood for the tale of a psychic who can’t connect to his girlfriend or anyone else around him. His love interest is played by Howard, who looks pretty great in this photo. She’s quite beautiful when she’s not wearing that horrible wig from Twilight (yeah, I went there). Hereafter opens in theaters on October 22nd.

Re: The EW Fall Movie Preview piece, it probably won't be online for about a week, so a few quick takeaways:

  • Clint calls it a "chick flick"--but one that won't cause men to want to stick a knife in their leg
  • For the storyline that focuses on two English child twins, Eastwood cast non-actors
  • Matt Damon is quoted as saying Clint calls this "his French movie"
  • Originally Damon wasn't going to be able to accept the role due to scheduling conflicts, so he emailed Clint three alternate suggestions for the part: Christian Bale, Casey Affleck and Josh Brolin
  • Clint was so intent on Damon playing the part, he re-arranged the shooting schedule so Matt would be able to squeeze it in

Ok, how many others turned right to the October section of the EW fall movie release issue to read about Hereafter before reading anything else!  ;D

I remember watching Vanessa in the Garden when it first showed on TV... I remember it being a highly stylized, gothic ghost story that was very good. (even with Sondra Locke in it!) But it also had the great Harvey Keitel.

Also, I can think of two other "ghost" movies that Clint has done... High Plains Drifter and Pale Rider.

I'm really looking forward to Hereafter.... Sounds like the story has three separate stories that connect in the end somehow.  Maybe this movie will be similar in style to the great way that Clint seamlessly went back and forth between the three main characters and their stories in Mystic River.

Supernatural thriller is director's fourth film to play festival

Clint Eastwood's "Hereafter," which stars Matt Damon, Cecile de France, Jay Mohr and Bryce Dallas Howard, has been selected to serve as the closing night film at the 48th New York Film Festival, which runs Sept. 24-Oct. 10. ...

"As so beautifully evident in 'Hereafter,' Clint Eastwood continues to make the most daring, provocative films in America. With his returned appearance here in the New York Film Festival, the director has showcased an opening night film, a centerpiece film and now this year's closing night with 'Hereafter,' a 'hat trick' of which we are especially proud," Richard Pena, selection committee chair and program director, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, said.

Here's the full blurb from FSLC:

Quote
Another entirely surprising film from a director who, at 80, remains at the peak of his powers, Clint Eastwood's Hereafter explores the possibility of establishing connections with loved ones who have passed on-an enterprise marked by skepticism as well an adventurous sense of hope. An engrossing, nuanced ensemble piece with a cast headed by the excellent Matt Damon and Cécile de France, the script by Peter Morgan (The Queen, NYFF 2006) unfolds three intersecting stories as it entertains the idea that alternate realms of consciousness might exist apart from the life we all know. Filmed in France, England, San Francisco and Hawaii, Hereafter is made with the consummate skill and confident grace one expects from Hollywood's most enduring and honored veteran. But it also exhibits the energy and curiosity of an ever-young mind still striving to tackle the eternal mysteries of life and death. U.S. Premiere. A Warner Bros. release.

Clint Eastwood's supernatural thriller "Hereafter," starring Matt Damon, has been selected to close the 48th annual New York Film Festival on Oct. 10, joining galas for David Fincher's opening-nighter "The Social Network" and Julie Taymor's centerpiece premiere "The Tempest" in the full lineup unveiled Monday.

Presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the fall event is characteristically heavy on pics culled from the Cannes Film Festival. Fourteen of the 28 titles announced had their world premieres on the Croisette in May, including Mike Leigh's "Another Year"; Cristi Puiu's "Aurora"; Jean-Luc Godard's "Film Socialisme"; Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Palme d'Or winner "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives"; and Xavier Beauvois' Grand Prix honoree "Of Gods and Men." ...

And as the NY Film Festival screening is listed as a US premiere, the film will also be shown at either Venice or Toronto.

The NY Post tipped Toronto.
