Only the 'cave' card is first release. The other 11 are 60s re-release. Similar paperstock, same design except for
the updated title box (stating the Italian names LEONE, VOLONTE..).
It was a small distributor, I have no idea how many. 16?18?20? more? 50s/60s French stuff even more complicated
than German stuff - where most guidelines help..
But I guess except for those I have all French Leone lc's, so I'm really after them :)

11 x 14 UK Lobby set for Pale Rider.  I already had the 8 x 10 set, so it was nice to get hold of this.  O0

Just got this nice French b&w set for FAFDM.

Hopefully Mike will be able to tell me the significance of the the blank white border at the bottom.  I have seen a few sets like this and I have also seen them complete with credits.

Is this possibly a re-issue set?

But it's the same set I posted here on page 7   :coolsmiley:

As far as I know the French printed some blank sets for the Belgium or other
multiple language French markets. So they could print their own titles in two or thre languages..

Thanks Mike, that is a logical explanation.  O0

You really like it?
I always thought it is rather poor. 12 cards - great quality, but only ONE good card, with Lee & Clint, no real highlights (just like the movie :)).
But the German set isn't much better either - except for a Clint portrait card.. The Italian Bustas could be good..

From a collectors point of view, Yes absolutely.

On a personal level, I agree with you that it is not a great set, but I still like it.  ;)

Question for Mike ------

Do you know the reason for the mirror image on these French cards?

Sorry for poor image quality, I took the image on my camera phone up in my loft :)

There are three different French sets. First release was a set of 12, with 3 or 4 cards printed with wrong, reversed angles (mirror image).
The mistakes had been taken care quite quickly and those cards were printed again (same quality) the right way.
In the 70s the re-release set of 11 cards was printed. One card (Tuco & Blonidie walking in the trenches) was missing in that set, maybe the couldn't find the blue-print. Nice, (rather better than 67) image quality, the white title area at the bottom was smaller.

The French always knew how to deal with film art. I think it shows, considering how fast they corrected those 'wrong angle' lobby cards! In the US studios often treated the promo material like chewing gum paper and couldn't care less - the US GBU set is the worst (first release) set worldwide: wrong angles on 5 or 6 out of 8 cards! I hate that. Same with the US set for my favorite film, THE WILD BUNCH: the best card, the 4 guys walking - WRONG angle. And nothing is easier than to tell the right angle on a WESTERN photo - they made them all left-handed :)
