The news on this project is pretty confusing.

Quote
Meanwhile, Eastwood dished to us about his upcoming remake of A Star Is Born. The 82-year-old tells us that reports Bradley Cooper was in talks to sign on to the flick were more than just rumors.

"We were talking to Bradley Cooper," he said. "We've talked to several people, and we probably won't address that one till next year. Early next year."
Eastwood says it's not even confirmed that Beyoncé, who's long been attached to the project, will be a part of the remake. "She's great," he smiled. "I don't know if she's available, but we've talked a little bit."

" Beyonce Not Confirmed To Appear In Clint Eastwood's 'A Star Is Born' "

Clint Eastwood has revealed that Beyonce is not confirmed to star in his new flick, A Star Is Born, despite the star being named as the lead female over the last year.

Quote
Beyonce was said to be getting ready to shoot scenes for the remake of the classic movie in 2011, however, production was said to have been postponed when she announced her pregnancy last summer.
However, Clint says that no one has yet been confirmed for roles and there is still the chance that another actress could take Bey's spot.
"She’s great. I don’t know if she’s available, but we’ve talked a little bit," Clint told E! News.
Meanwhile, the legendary actor confirmed recent reports that Hangover star Bradley Cooper was being considered for the lead male role.
"We were talking to Bradley Cooper. We’ve talked to several people, and we probably won’t address that one till next year. Early next year," Clint added.
If not Bey, which actress would you like to see cast in the flick?

Hey Higashimori. I really love your enthusiasm. It is really great to see, and we definitely need more of it on the board. Right above your post though, I've already posted a link to this information. I think it would be great if before you post something, you could take a look at the thread you are posting in to make sure that it isn't something that has already been posted. I know that it's always possible to miss it, but I've seen you post something that has already been posted several times, and in order to avoid that, I think it's best to take a look at the thread first. I do this all the time. I hope this is helpful for you.

Eastwood would join his father onscreen a few more times, but he found an even more valuable role creating soundtracks for some of Clint’s most memorable films, including Million Dollar Baby, Letters From Iwo Jima and Invictus. He spoke about his experience recently at the John Ford Film Festival in Ireland, where he also led workshops and taught aspiring film composers the ropes, but a heavy touring schedule with his jazz band has kept him out of the studio. “I might be involved in my father’s next film, a remake of A Star is Born with Beyoncé,” he says.

 Coooooooool !!  :)

" Beyonce Leaves Clint Eastwood's A Star is Born "

  Source: Variety  October 9, 2012

Quote
The last official update on the status of Warner Bros.' Clint Eastwood-directed remake of A Star is Born came during the press conference for Trouble with the Curve when Eastwood himself told ComingSoon.net, "[That's] a project that we're going to do down the line. It's six months away."

Today, Variety updates that Beyonce, previously attached to play the female lead, has dropped out the project and that the search is on for a her replacement as well as for a male star to headline.

Quote
Among the talent being considered to replace Beyonce is said to be Esperanza Spaulding, although the male casting is said to be the priority.

The interesting part of this new update was that I read:  Screenwriter Will Fetters recently revealed to us that his script for the remake was heavily inspired by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, so Eastwood presumably has an interesting take on his hands.

This could mean that this film might be another story that is very dark, especially since the story is already about the male lead's career and life spiraling down after being on top of the world.  Might just be Clint getting back to his more darker and disturbing films.  (I'm trying to stay positive about this project.....)

Esperanza! She has some serious musical chops ... would be interesting to see if her talent translates to acting. I have her 2008 self-titled CD (http://www.amazon.com/Esperanza-Spalding/dp/B0014HC56K) and it's fantastic.

Her selection, if it comes to fruition, could indicate a more jazz-heavy direction for the film ...

I am not surprised by this news that Beyonce has dropped out of the project. I never thought she was the right choice for this role, so I think this is probably a good thing that she is no longer involved. I'm not familiar with Esparanza Spalding, but I like that she's a jazz singer. I think that since this is a movie though, if I were Clint, I would pick someone who had acting experience and who was known as a good actor. Jennifer Hudson has been mentioned elsewhere, and I think she would be a good choice. She has an Academy Award, and is also a very talented singer. Clint appears to really want to do this project. I was hoping that this project would end up not being made now that Beyonce has dropped out, but it seems like Clint is still struggling to find a way to make this happen. I personally feel like Clint should move on and find something to do that had a wider appeal, that was an original story.

If one likes jazz then Esparanza Spalding is really great... I've seen her on a few TV concerts including Austin City Limits.  She actually plays jazz guitar and not just sings. Who knows what her acting ability is however...

To stay positive on this project... the script might just be great.  Maybe it is an update of A Star is Born rather than a remake.  Since evidently the script/story by the writer was inspired by Kurt Cobain, the film could take a dark turn sorta like in Bird. (Thinking how both Cobain and Parker died young and at the top of their music).  I know I'm getting way ahead of myself here... but as one who also winced when first hearing about this film with Beyonce, I'm now somewhat intrigued.

It has been a while since the last time I heard something about this project.
Any news?
Is this going to happen or Clint passed on?

I was only thinking yesterday about this. Trouble With A Curve opened back in October and that was around the last time we heard any news about A Star Is Born being done or not. We should be hearing some news about Clint's next project very shortly. Unless he has retired. ;)

IMO,  I dont think Clint has retired and I actually dont think he ever will.  Clint strikes me as the type of person who really really loves his work be it acting, producing, directing etc.  He may be taking a little time off like for a few months.  But I couldnt imagine Clint just sitting around the house and doing nothing.  I know he plays golf and attends various events but you cant do all those things all day or everyday. He would just get too bored.

I think he may be taking time off for a while. I hope he doesn't go on with A Star is Born. Perhaps he will take a rest for the winter and then look for another project.

Clint always talked about directing into his 90's so I hope he hasn't retired. Maybe as Lin  said, he's just taking a rest.  I hope that's the case.

What makes you think this, KC? Were you serious? I don't think Eastwood has retired. I think he has been trying to get "A Star is Born" made for awhile, and it looks like it is not going to work out. He is either still committed to that and struggling to get that accomplished, which is taking time, or he is ready to move on and looking for something else to do. What makes you and others feel that he is ready to hang things up?

Clint's really been out of the news lately.  It's been so quiet.

I don't think I've seen a single movie where this guy had a major role. It seems like Clint and Co are really stretching now to find a male lead for this project. They've gone from people like Leonardo Dicaprio and Christian Bale to....this. :(

Having just seen Silver Linings Playbook.... I can say that Bradley Cooper's acting ability is without question.  He was pretty great in this role which was not an easy one to act for.  He played it perfectly and didn't go over the top which a lot of actors might have done.  I don't know what his singing ability is (or if it would even be needed) if Clint does make this movie.... but I have no reservation that Cooper would be great in it. His Best Actor nomination for Silver Linings Playbook is well deserved.
